i just got logic for my home studio and im switching over from using mpc for the past 6 or so years and this video has all the EXACT information i needed.. i appreciate you!
Marlow, I love ALL your videos, this one has opened up such much to me and really given me a way to perform and record my tracks the way I’ve always wanted to and still have the ability to tweak and mix after the recording stage. Thank you so much.
I am so happy I found your tutorial. Can now record the MPC inside of logic without getting to export every tracks as audio mix down when I am done recording on the MPC. Just hope my CPU don't crash, run the MPC on Logic asks a lot of work for your system ahah. Thank you very much!!
Great and very useful video tutorial. I would just add that in order to load any project on the MPC software saved in standalone mode, project files must be stored in your SD card or external drive.
Thanks for the vid bro! Finally a vid to show how to work MPC with logic together. Now let's see if there's a way to use the MPC X transport controls to control logic. But not sure if that's possible
You can map them, I think I did it once and it worked, but the whole process is a bit convoluted. But the problem is not the mpc, Logic is the one that doesn't like to be controlled by external sources.
I found this a really helpful video. My beef with the MPC in controller mode is when you edit in Logic and save, it seems (so far) to me that it’s saved locally so I can’t go back into stand alone mode with the MPC to do more edits and then reconnect as the updated version isn’t used by Logic even if you connect in controller mode again, you have to manually drag and drop the newer version into the MPC VST. Shame there isn’t a setting to always use the MPC’s version and not the computer’s version.
For rerouting to vst to work like you've shown, does a song in the MPC have to be on a single sequence? If not, how does it work with multiple sequences where verse, chorus etc have their own sequence?
Yo Marlow! Thanks for this great vid. Been subbed to you for a long time but just now messing around with the MPC plugin, via MPC Beats. Is there any way to send midi output from the plugin to a DAW (for me, Reaper), essentially just using the MPC software as a sound library? With Maschine you can do this fairly easily... just wondering if it's possible with the MPC plugin. Thanks man!
After I have my logic, and MPC running together, how do I set it up to plug my microphone into the back of the MPC so I can record vocals on to a beat in logic
it's crazy how much more complicated this is compared to the 2500xl. all you used to have to do was connect and click play and each track would record into it's own logic track and you could go from there with eqing or adding other logic instruments and plugins
@@QuantumLOw oh yea lol i'm dumb af. it was the 2500 Limited Edition. i must be missing a step. when i click play on the Live, it doesn't record into the DAW. guess i should research how i used to do it with the 2500. thanks for pointin that out
Im struggling with buy-in the mpc or the roland sp 404. I basically just wanna make samples and than record into the daw without exporting or anything. So I actually just wanna have my samples ready and than record in real time to logic. Is that possibly with one of the devices in any way? You know what I mean? Would really appreciate an answer.
Is it possible to route out the MIDI stuff out to the tracks in Logic? Let’s say I want to use the chord/scales/note repeat functions on the MPC, but instead of controlling and printing the MIDI notes on the MPC VST, I want the notes to show up in Logic in real-time - to control the plug-ins in Logic. Can that be done? Please let me know! :- ) Thanks.
If you have a midi synth connected to logic via USB/MIDI when the MPC software is running as well, can you record midi notes from the synth and how is the timing. Basically trying to understand when MPC is a plug in in Logic if you want to add other external midi sounds to the logic project, is the timing tight? For monitoring purposes, the logic audio out goes to mixing desk, so we are not talking about audio latency in the computer, just midi notes in logic playing along with mpc software. Thank You Love Your Channel.
how com when I change the output for the track on the Mac it changes all the outputs for all the tracks ? it won't let me put track 1 on 2/3 the track 2 on 5/6 it changes all of them when I change ?
I'm not in front of my mpc but tracks don't have outputs, only programs do. What you are changing is the output of the same program that is being used on other tracks. You can duplicate the program, that way you can have a different output for your track. Either that or change the output of the samples inside the program.
How would you export the files to logic as midi? Say... if I were to use a 3rd party arpeggiator on a track. It would be better if the track was in midi? Not solely audio right? Cheers! & thank you for the tutorial sir.
Hello dude, thank you so much for your many videos, it's a very great help ! I have one issue regarding this process, it's that when the sounds of my pads are set up to different outputs (MPC 3-4, MPC 5-6 & so on), I can't hear any sound which is weird because I was able to hear the sound when everythin' was set up to Output 1-2. Is there a specific thing to do with the outputs ?
Thank you sir! my million dollar question is how do you route each track from a hardware ex MPC live to logic! also i can make a beat in the mpc software, is that the same sound quality vs the hardware? hope question want too hard! Thank you
To be clear... the "project" you load in the VST and then route to Logic can come from your hardware MPC Live if plugged in via USB? Or can only load projects created in the software VST?
@@mpchead but what if I want it to come from a project I already made on hardware? I can't use this method to put tracks from my hardware standalone mode into Logic? Just trying to figure out before committing to a purchase, thanks!
I'd prefer this method over the explode and export as WAV method, so I could continue to tweak MPC tracks while adding more tracks from Logic, etc. Just not sure it's possible.
@@mpchead that’s perfect, I was worried about Logics master clock messing with my programmed swing which is usually right up there in the Akai. But then I suppose swing resets the actual position on the grid so as long as it reads from there I suppose it doesn’t matter. Thanks man 👌🏾
mpc head so when I choose a track to send out in the mpc vst I choose 3,4 for track 1 , and 5,6 for track 2 but when I go back to track 1 it’s set at 5,6
Hey bro so I’ve routed all my outputs on my MPC into the channels on logic but I’m lost when it comes to exporting my track I’ve made how do I do this? Spent hours mixing down 😭 when I go to export it says there’s nothing to bounce out 🤷♂️

The "+" is still there (even on latest version 2.10) and has always been there. However, you must choose "Multi-Output" not "Stereo" when adding the plugin. Specifically, add a new Software Instrument in Logic, and navigate to all the way down to "AU Instruments > Akai Professional > MPC > Multi-Output (16x Stereo)". Once you have added the plugin, as "Stereo" or "Multi-Output" this will be the type chosen next time you launch it from the Logic Shortcut you see as just "MPC" when going to add a software instrument. This is likely why you thought the button does not exist; You were adding the Stereo plugin instead of Multi-Output. Once the Multi-Output plugin is added, you can press "x" for mixing board in Logic and you will see the "+" on the MPC plugin track (only viewable on the Mixer channel below, not at the track level up top). That last bit can be confusing because the "+" only appears when the Logic Mixer is open.
When i try to change the logic output to multi-output(16), i can’t. I only see mono and stereo, and clicking on mono breaks both logic and MPC. Any idea how to fix?
