I had a moment of when Chris described Noodle as short and I was like… Yeah in 2001, and then I turned into dust. I’ve been following the group since Demon Days so I knew the changes but that reminder, hurt me.
I like how they all age differently. 2-D just gets longer legs and maybe some more lines on his face from time to time, Murdoc's skin just gets more green and Russell literally stays the exact same. And then there's Noodle, aging like a normal human.
@@peytonalexander5300 they are mid forties I think. Always possible there are some weird reasons why they are not aging too much. 2-D's childness keeps youthful? Murdoc's occult stuff has positive side effects? Russel is black which we know don't crack?
I've done some work for Gorillaz (Jamie and Damon) years back for one of their live tours. We made some puppet replicas of the band for them to use. Both came to my friends workshop and a very surreal experience it was too. lol
That would have been the _Demon Days Live_ concerts. Which wasn't really a "tour" per-se. They performed 5 concerts at the Manchester Opera House in Manchester, England, UK on 01+02+03+04+05 November, 2005. And in those concerts, they performed the entirety of their then-brand new album _Demon Days_ from start-to-finish, followed by an encore that consisted of the songs _Hong Kong_ & _Latin Simone (¿Que Pasa Contigo?)_ afterwards (they put _Latin Simone_ in the encore in order to pay homage to the legendary Ibrahim Ferrer, the man who performed the vocals on the album version of the song, as he had died earlier that year). The fifth concert - on 05 November, 2005 (my 11th birthday, as it happens) - was professionally filmed and recorded and made into their first (and so far only) live concert DVD, _Gorillaz: Demon Days Live at The Manchester Opera House._ Later on they performed 5 more _Demon Days Live_ concerts, this time at The Apollo Theater in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States of America on 02+03+04+05+06 April, 2006. It was the same concert as the previous 5. Same stage setup, same setlist, same encore songs, same guest artists (except at these 5 shows, Dennis Hopper actually showed up to read his monologue from _Fire Coming Out Of The Monkey's Head_ in person). And the last of these 5 concerts - the one held on 06 April, 2006 - was professionally filmed and recorded as well, this time broadcast on MTV under the title _Gorillaz: Demon Days Live in Harlem._ And yes, a big part of all 10 of these concerts were these awesome Murdoc & 2-D puppets. Muppet-esque puppets who were perched up in the balcony at Manchester Opera House & The Apollo Theater. They basically operated in the same way that the two old man muppets from _The Muppet Show_ did, riffing on the events of the show from the audience - high up in their private balcony - and the two of them entertained the crowds as they waited for the concerts to begin in proper, and also did some of their shtick between the conclusion of the main concert and the encore songs and also at the end of the encore too. Apparently they also goofed around in between songs during the main concert too. I know it had to be these concerts, because this is the only time that Gorillaz have ever utilized puppets. At least so far. The Murdoc puppet, though, was also used elsewhere occasionally in 2005 & 2006. For Gorillaz promotional stuff mostly. I think the Murdoc puppet recorded a video message that was used as the band's acceptance speech when they won a BRIT award in '05 or '06 too iirc.
Also murdocc has a history of dealing with the occult. From the Boogeyman (gasmask dude) to other shady shit, he hit in jail and got replaced with ace from the Powerpuff girls
The boogeyman is actually a rejected horseman of the apocalypse named Flatulence - also possibly the demon Murdock made a deal for his soul with and reneged on.
So it's been confirmed by the creators that this video takes place at the end of the current story arc they are creating. Based on that, people have gathered that Murdoc (and the rest of the band since he pretty much makes them do whatever he wants) started leading some kind of demonic cult below the Hollywood sign. Things got extremely out of hand, crimes are committed, and everyone ends up getting arrested except for Murdoc, who is still very much involved with the cult activities. He summons a demon (the woman in the video who turns into an old lady) and seems to be in love with her, and people think that she may be the thing that the cult has been worshipping the whole time. It's very uncharacteristic for Murdoc to fall in love since he is a hedonistic asshole who doesn't really do affection and prefers to sleep around, so people believe he may be under her control. He sees her as young and beautiful, but everyone else sees her as what she really is. She may even be a succubus. Regardless, whether he is being controlled or not, it seems Murdoc started a cult with the band, summoned a demon who he is in love with and now all hell may be about to break loose as a result. None of this is confirmed, but Gorillaz lore is always sort of up for interpretation until specifics are confirmed later on.
You got it half right. The lady is actually a cult leader that would meet with her followers every 25 years to sacrifice someone for immortality and she accidentally figured that out when she was shooting a movie in the 20's at the house she lived at and a crew member fell into a hole and gotten ate. The gorillaz just happened to move right next to her house and Murdoc instantly fell in love with her. He tried to impress her but she wasn't interested and ended up befriending 2-D and would give him weird tasting but addictive smoothie. She ended up getting 2-D to come over to her place and then goes missing for a few months. The band start getting worried and go to investe and find 2-D about to be sacrificed but the lady hid clues around for the band to find cause she secretly didn't want 2-D to get sacrificed. They save him but get busted by the cops. The whole song is 2-D trying to explain what happened while still drugged from the smoothies. The lady at the end loses her immortality when she doesn't sacrifice 2-D but finally gives Murdoc a date which she doesn't even live through.
As a bit of a disclaimer 2-D is not blind or has he lost his eyes, he hurt each eye in different occasions and they permanently turned black, or at least that was the idea, the artist changed them to white just because he felt like it a couple years ago
Both eye injuries were caused by Murdoc, his bandmate. First one is when Murdoc hit him with his car while he was working. Second time is when Murdoc was being a show off with him in the car.
i thought his eyes were white because murdoc wasn't hitting his head anymore? like when murdoc was in jail, thats around the time his eyes were almost always white(until russel tripped him in humility) there's definitely tons of different reasons for his eyes over the years, but i thought the current thing was that his eyes go black from head trauma (causing them to be filled with blood)

Gorillaz is one of those rare few groups that is just about everybody's type. They dabble in so many genres and never stick to just one for too long, that no matter what your taste, you're guaranteed to love at least one of their songs. Also little fun fact: Jack Black came out of nowhere (as Jack Black does) and played in the song "Humility".
Gorillaz are wild. I suggest anyone who has the time check out youtube videos that explain all the phases the band has gone through. The animated group have their own story for each phase. It's crazy.
Gorillaz started when Murdoc, the bass player, tried to steal music equipment to jump start his music career. He tried to smash his car into the front of a music store to get inside and he ended up hitting 2-D who was named Stuart at the time. The accident caused blood to fill 2-D's eye which makes it look black. Murdoc was arrested and part of his community service was that he had to look after 2-D. While watching after 2-D then went for a drive and Murdoc crashed while driving recklessly. The accident caused 2-D to have the same injury in his other eye, filling both eyes with blood and turning them black. This is where he got the name 2-D... two dents. Murdoc soon after inherited a haunted music studio, which we see in Clint Eastwood being attacked by zombie gorillaz. Murdoc then recruited Russel. Russel went to a private school where he got kicked out when he got possessed and went kinda crazy. Later Russel witnessed his friends get killed in a dirve-by. His friends souls inhabited Russel's body giving him "insane musical abilities"... as Murdoc says. Then soon after as you know from what Chris said, Noodle mailed herself to the band's haunted studio and she became the 4th member. She left for a bit and did her own thing... giving us the music video Dare which is in my top 3 easy. During this time the band were touring with a cyborg Noodle who was destroyed during the music video Stylo during a police chase.
Murdocc crashed into the music store of one Stuart Pot. He ended up catatonic, he was forced to take care of him. One day he was doing donuts in a parking lot with Stuart riding shotgun, Stuart got ejected, crashing through the window and when he hit the pavement he recover from his catatonic state, but his eyes where two empty holes. So from that moment, murdocc named him 2D.
I think some people don't realize the Gorillaz age like real people, and the band has been around for 20-odd years now. Noodle started as a small child, but she's now an adult.
cant help but notice chris's daft punk shirt , funny that I see this in a Gorillaz reaction considering how much all of us daft punk fans wanted them to do a colab
Yooooo wtf I love this. I love Gorillaz. They always bring the heat. I heard this song a couple days ago when they released it and it was instant fire.
yes please more Gorillaz videos! my favorites are from the Now Now and Song Machine era. the meanings and symbolism get so heavy in the music videos from the past few albums * A lot of Humanz' themes have to do with Slacktivism and forming your own opinions instead of playing telephone with what other people say (see "Charger" and "Busted and Blue") * The Now Now and Song Machine have some of my favorite themes of storytelling about balancing peace and turmoil ("Souk Eye" "Aries" "Desole") My appreciation for Gorillaz grew when I started to see 2D as the songwriter's shoulder angel and Murdoc as his shoulder demon haha
When this music video was being premiered, there was actually some lore first during the countdown that doesn't seem to have been uploaded anywhere else afterwards. All I remember is that they started a cult and this is supposed to be something that happened at the end of that story.
According to the Wikipedia page, the "cult" thing is tied somehow to the album rollout...? Could be like how when Radiohead sent cards to some of their fans when they released Burn The Witch
I believe cracker island refers to a place where people who are, well a bit crackers (that might just be a uk saying idk) all go to. Damon Albarn said something like that anyway xD
I'd love to watch you guys react to the other music videos. They are gems for theory crafting to decipher what everything really means and they're super fun too
Oh man i'd love to see you guys binge all the gorillaz mvs now!!! (and stuff? there have been lots of interviews and commentaries by the actual characters as well as a lot of lil animated bits for different occasions its SO MUCH CONTENT/LORE OVER THE YEARS)
I've never heard of Thundercat before finding this song today, but I'm a sucker for a good drum and bass, and damn... this song is fire in that regard.
It would be amazing if you guys could do reaction to the most famous music videos from each Phase of Gorillaz, so those who haven't seen them can get a better understanding of how the character kept growing and changing along with the style of their music (if some you guys haven't seen those famous music videos of course). Also... The chick with brown hair in this video is indeed Noodle the Guitarist of the Band. She's 30 years old by this point 😅.
Cracker was more used in the 1970's. I am not offended. This song is about cults and the Occult. It is very popular on Alternative Rock radio right now.
RE: the term "cracker" from what i was told a while back it's short for "whip-cracker" so i guess in some contexts it can be offensive... but don't think it is meant in that contect here but i could be wrong. And As to the history of Gorillaz, its very complicated. Theirs is a multimedia story told via the music videos, books, the website which had multiple interactive chapters that you had to play through to piece together the story... or look up wikipedia / youtube explainer vids.
noodle has aged each album, i believe the lore says she was 10 in the first album and the last three shes been noticeably aged to match the fact the bands been active for about 24 years now
Some lore for y’all. 2-D is the guy with blue hair and he got his name because he has 2 dents in his skull. Murdoc, the green bass player, got into 2 separate accidents that caused 2-D’s eyes to fill with blood and turn black/white. He can still see and his eyes change between black and white depending on his mood. Murdoc is insane and has been involved in many different cults and criminal groups. Murdoc is also usually the one who gets the band wrapped up in weird events. Noodle is the guitar player and was shipped to the band in a box from Japan. Her first English word was “Noodle” and it’s been her name since then. She’s the most competent member of the band and often is the one who gets them out of trouble. She was a child when the band started but has grown up with each album released. Russel is probably the easiest one to explain. He’s the drummer and used to be possessed by a ghost, hence the white eyes, and acts as the muscle and heart of the group.
14:20 i mean it depends. since the video is taking place in L.A, the avg white person you see them trying to become the next celeb and doing crazy stuff on street... it checks out. lived there for 5 years from 2014 to 2019 and i seen enough to get the picture.
Oh also the main singer of gorillas could see but because of the one accident he pretty much lost vision of both of his eyes like take the clip of feel good inc he could see
As a white person in Australia I personally am not offended by the word cracker whoever says it and can understand exactly why there’s less sympathy for it’s use because the words history, although in recent years here in OZ many white people (especially men) have been under fire and gaslit into being guilty for atrocities in history we never took part in or agreed with. All in all I wholeheartedly would rather be sitting with you guys and gal and call you my friends and be just as flummoxed with the songs meaning
Sounds like Damon turned the control back to the featuring artist and stepped away from being the producer. Damon didn’t take the reigns of the Gorillaz till their 3rd studio album. Jamie Hewlet is the Creator and provides the artwork in which Damon must work around story wise. The featuring artist usually have full creative control of a track after the art, sample, and beats are presented by Damon. It’s an experimental way of making music 100%. I think that The last albums suffered a little by Damon taking the role of the producer. The magic of this band is artist collaborations producing tracks outside of their norms with a extremely A to B recording process. Damon’s band Blur has an identity not at all like Gorillaz. Damon’s Gorillaz he produced have too much of what he thought the Gorillaz should sound like. Damon himself has even very publicly stated he has been disappointed with what he has released; saying as far, he thought Humanz was uninspired and just not happy through and through with the end results.
The term "cracker" was created by rich pre-civil war southerners to refer to poor white people. Just another term to make someone seem subhuman, it is a term that is born more from classism than racism. It has evolved into a term that more infers someone is representative of southern stereotypes like being uneducated, stupid, incestuous, and racist. It's not too common of a term, most people are unaware of it's history (including the people it is meant to be a slur to). There isn't really a reason to care about it in the first place.
Noodle grown up now...... she's been grown up since....humanz so yeah it's noodle. We're so old now. And to answer about the eyes. I'm going order of 2D then Russell. Murdock crashed a car into 2DS head then flung him out of the same car into the curb and that's how his eyes got black. There's not enough official reason why his eyes are white now I don't think. But it seems to be based on his mood and since Murdoch basically made it where tudy's life was a living hell now that Murdoch's gone 2D is actually somewhat happy now. so that's why 2DS eyes are white his vision is blurry but he can see. And Russell got possessed by all of his friends that got killed in a drive-by shooting and that's why his eyes are white.
you guys should watch it out kgf franchise it's also from india i liked it and it got many epic action scenes not like old ones😅.I hope you guys will also love it.

Favorite video from Gorillaz is Stylo. The car chases, then they add Bruce Willis to the mix, was awesome.
man, they need to react to more of these videos. i JUST got into Gorillaz a couple days ago, and i regret not loving this band from my childhood.
The redhead animated character IS Noodle.
I think some people don't realize the Gorillaz age like real people, and the band has been around for 20-odd years now. Noodle started as a small child, but she's now an adult.
@@Sturmjaeger Yup 😁 I was in 3rd grade when the 1st album came out.
Yeah it's pretty neat actually, it's easiest to notice with Noodle but they are in real time, so at this point she's in her 30s?
@@JustNardo Yup. I'm 30 myself.
@@JustNardo According to the Gorillaz wiki, she's 31 now. She was about 8 when she first arrived on the doorstep of Kong Studios.
Noodle has been an adult since 2010
There is a video by FoundFlix explaining the backstory of Gorillaz you could watch if you’re interested but that was made 5 years ago
11:20 noodle grown up in lore about same height as 2d now. for othber characters there was a cyborg copy cat of her which is now gone.
cant help but notice chris's daft punk shirt , funny that I see this in a Gorillaz reaction considering how much all of us daft punk fans wanted them to do a colab
Yooooo wtf I love this.
I love Gorillaz. They always bring the heat. I heard this song a couple days ago when they released it and it was instant fire.
The whole album is 🔥
Noodle not only grew up, but started to dye her hair two albums ago.
Hope y'all react to Gorillaz's older videos with Navi too. That'd be fun
Wtf you guys are reacting not just to music, but to one of my fav bands lmao
This is amazing. And the Song Machine album is fire too.
Gorillaz lore is really cool you guys should look it up and watch the music videos because there is so much to catch on them
Keep reacting to Gorillaz's vídeos Guys, O love Your réaction.
yes please more Gorillaz videos! my favorites are from the Now Now and Song Machine era. the meanings and symbolism get so heavy in the music videos from the past few albums
* A lot of Humanz' themes have to do with Slacktivism and forming your own opinions instead of playing telephone with what other people say (see "Charger" and "Busted and Blue")
* The Now Now and Song Machine have some of my favorite themes of storytelling about balancing peace and turmoil ("Souk Eye" "Aries" "Desole")
My appreciation for Gorillaz grew when I started to see 2D as the songwriter's shoulder angel and Murdoc as his shoulder demon haha
I second the Gorillaz Marathon, definitely watching that if they went through with it X)
I believe cracker island refers to a place where people who are, well a bit crackers (that might just be a uk saying idk) all go to. Damon Albarn said something like that anyway xD
just saw them perform this song live the other day! so fucking good
I'd love to watch you guys react to the other music videos. They are gems for theory crafting to decipher what everything really means and they're super fun too
I hope you guys read the wiki for them cause their lore is DEEP
Oh man i'd love to see you guys binge all the gorillaz mvs now!!! (and stuff? there have been lots of interviews and commentaries by the actual characters as well as a lot of lil animated bits for different occasions its SO MUCH CONTENT/LORE OVER THE YEARS)
I've never heard of Thundercat before finding this song today, but I'm a sucker for a good drum and bass, and damn... this song is fire in that regard.
I hadn't either, but apparently his rise to prominence was playing in Suicidal Tendencies from 2002 to 2011...
Cracker Island's a euphemism for England.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the help on the parts of the lore i screwed up on
Cracker was more used in the 1970's. I am not offended. This song is about cults and the Occult. It is very popular on Alternative Rock radio right now.
Hell yeah! Would love some more Gorillaz reactions
Thundercat rocks. Best concert I've been too in years
Thundercat has a song and role in the anime Carole and Tuesday
Top 10 song this year
This beat is just so good
2D got his eye damaged by murdock crashing a car into him and noodles was mailed by her mentor after being part of the super soldier program
We need a navi reacts to all the Gorillaz videos and lore videos
Love the music reactions!
The channel Foundflix has two excellent videos explaining the lore of Gorillaz. You guys should react go it! :D
noodle has aged each album, i believe the lore says she was 10 in the first album and the last three shes been noticeably aged to match the fact the bands been active for about 24 years now
YES, THIS UPLOAD HAD ME FEELING GLAD!
I literally just got into the band! Same time I got into this channel actually! Keep it up guys :D
Apparently this video is at the end of this storyline so we’ll be going backwards through these upcoming songs
They're doing a movie, actually!!!!
Subbed! I’d love to watch you all go through the gorillaz lore
Do all their videos in order
Sweet you’re reacting to one of Gorillaz content! 😁
what a point at which to get into the Gorillaz after 25 years of lore....
Because the music is good. I listen to Gorillaz, but I don't know anything about the lore
More Gorillaz reactions please
14:20 i mean it depends. since the video is taking place in L.A, the avg white person you see them trying to become the next celeb and doing crazy stuff on street... it checks out. lived there for 5 years from 2014 to 2019 and i seen enough to get the picture.
I don’t know why it showed 6 years Feel Good Inc. was released in 2005.
Oh also the main singer of gorillas could see but because of the one accident he pretty much lost vision of both of his eyes like take the clip of feel good inc he could see
you should check out the lore video of the gorillaz that talk about everything from there first album up to the now now
You guys should listen to gloom by djo, the lead singer is Joe Kerry who also plays Steve in stranger things. It's a good song.
Murdoc is busy being the cult leader so they had to employ Thundercat's many strategies. Cracker Island is England
When someone calls me a cracker I just go "bitch I'm too big to be a cracker I'm a Motherfucking crouton"
if you started this one you may as well do the rest of gorillaz history it's very unique to the music world.
Well, what a good surprise
Have you seen all the music videos? If you don't could you react to them? 😍🤩
Mailed to London, not America! 😏✌️
Hehe that was Noodle but she looks totally different then how we saw her in Strobelite
I'm just wondering as someone who has heard of gorillas in the past do the characters change appearance in every phase? Thanks
Oh please do a marathon
The lead is the lead from blur! And the rest is just fite
Omg they started an actual cult there’s a website and everything
Love from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Right on 😁
I love this video so much
should react to a few other gorillaz videos see all the noodel growth and how adorable she is also more 2d
Andromeda is the second best song off Humanz
Fun fact cracker island is a derogatory term for the UK
Navi looking healthy and hot. :)
Please watch the lore gorillaz video as well as the newest music videos that'd be great!
Damon himself has even very publicly stated he has been disappointed with what he has released; saying as far, he thought Humanz was uninspired and just not happy through and through with the end results.
it is noodle she has grown up
Gorillaz 🔥
The term "cracker" was created by rich pre-civil war southerners to refer to poor white people. Just another term to make someone seem subhuman, it is a term that is born more from classism than racism. It has evolved into a term that more infers someone is representative of southern stereotypes like being uneducated, stupid, incestuous, and racist. It's not too common of a term, most people are unaware of it's history (including the people it is meant to be a slur to). There isn't really a reason to care about it in the first place.
At least that is the history of the term in the US. Might be completely different in other parts of the english speaking world.
And Russell got possessed by all of his friends that got killed in a drive-by shooting and that's why his eyes are white.
does anyone know if russel has the demon again? his eyes haven't been like that for a bit
React to the Gorillaz's music video Stylo
Murdoc didn’t get married in real life, he doesn’t exist.
OMG NORMIES AND GORILLAZ LETS GOOO
you guys should watch it out kgf franchise it's also from india i liked it and it got many epic action scenes not like old ones😅.I hope you guys will also love it.
