Being from Nyc is like gladiator school for trucking. You have no idea how easy the job can be outside of nyc. If you cant make it there… everywhere else is a piece of cheesecake (chicago,ATL, LA, etc) Keep going brother salute🫡
damn I laughed my ass off at around 30:20 when he waited so long to make that right turn and then he sees that there are 3 big ass school busses parked there lmao
Speaking as a New Yorker, there are two problems: 1) You have to deal with pedestrians and bicyclists who aren’t paying attention. 2) There are so many roads that you can’t use. You can’t use anything that says “parkway”. You can’t use the FDR Drive. You can’t use the Brooklyn Bridge or Queensboro Bridge. Tunnels are also off limits. You constantly have to check for height and weight limits. The most direct route to a destination often has a truck restriction. The best thing to do is get a truck GPS.
@@SolarWraith Keep in mind that this is a densely populated city with old infrastructure. The parkways were built in the 1930's. They weren't designed to handle semi trucks. The Brooklyn Bridge was built in 1883. You just have to plan your route ahead of time. And if you happen to get on a road or bridge that you can't clear, put on your hazards and ask for help.
Ya truck gps when I was otr was worthless but that was 12 years ago. But if you know your way around the city it’s like driving in any city but I would say Boston is worse because roads just stop and pick back up so random places on the other side of the city
Living in NYC, this video just gave me so much respect for truckers. From now on ima make sure to always give you guys the right away, I’ll move traffic for you if I can lol.
@@DeanteHarris man sometimes u gotta be a lil less patient tho because when the cabbies be stoppin in ur way like that u gotta give em horn. if they get defensive let em cs they'll still move
Be more efficient; plan your route better before leaving; have your turns n intersections already in hand; use a satellite view n street view to make the correct plan; dont follow truck gps n then press re route, thats asking for bigggg problems.
I think one of the biggest problem is North America trucks are way too long and the trailers are long as well. Maybe they need to bring back cabovers to the North American market. The rest of the world drive cabovers and conventional trucks
You got a lot patience bruh better than me. I would’ve honked at that black tesla driving mad slow while other truck was waiting for you to go. Stay safe b
I was born in Bayside (Queens) in March 2004, and grew up in Nassau County on Long Island since 2007. Never been a truck driver, but I agree with everything you said! Truck driving can be a pain especially with all these crazy drivers in New York City and Long Island.
Come on drivers I love driving New York New York is where you tighten up skills. It will show you where you need to master. When you find yourself 1 mile down a one way single lane road . That Most people in a 4 wheeler couldn’t manage to pull off. Just for you to get to the bottom of this hill to see a dead end sign. And you’re doing all of this in a sleeper connected to. 53 ft reefer. It teaches you to never go off the words of just one person, & why you need to triple check your directions even if you have to call the company directly
Just driving a regular 4 wheeler through New York has my anxiety through the roof, can’t imagine what it’s like driving a semi thru there but I’ll probably find out soon enough. My road test is this month
Lmao my 2 freightliners are in the background of the intro 😂 shoutout Brentwood. Plastirun owns that whole lot. They just rent out parking to truckers.
Trick is not to follow GPS exactly as it will guide the quickest shortest way, always follow the staightest most direct route with less turns through main roads not side streets or roads. I’m from NY The Bronx. Started my career driving trucks in NY now I live & continue it in North Florida as a local Equipment Hauler. 20 years under my belt now. Much respect and blessings!
I started with Schneider too, great starting company with good training and experience for new drivers but after a few months I got let go and luckily got accepted by a small company and I gotta say I like the smaller company better you definitely right about a relationship.
Lmao ! Bruh they had the nerve to send me through downtown Brooklyn 🤣😁 where certain streets was life or death situations and forget the gps .. you’ll have to make the right decisions if not say bye bye to your CDL
city should honestly take away some on street parking spots and turn them into dedicated loading zones. amount of trucks i see double parking blocking whole streets & bus lanes for deliveries is insane.
This city is only concerned about taking away street parking for ALL. The entire manhattan from 96th down is virtually 99% not parkable until 7 PM when all regulations universally end. If it ain’t metered it’s not allowed, period. AND they tow you here for simply parking illegal you don’t even have to be in front of a driveway or hydrant. Just 10 minutes over on your meter ticket?
