THE GWR 1Z48 with 7029 'Clun Castle' - 10th & 11th May 2024

Vintage Trains organised this special rail tour to mark 60 years since 'Clun Castle' achieved the then-fastest-ever run from Plymouth to Bristol.
I wanted to capture a little of this tour on video.
The rail tour was spread over two days.
Details below:
Day 1 Friday 10th May - Birmingham Snow Hill - Oxford - Bristol TM - Plymouth
Locations:
Hullavington (Wiltshire) - Under the wires with 47773 at the rear.
Rattery (Devon) - 7029 was unassisted throughout
Day 2 Saturday 11th May - Plymouth - Bristol TM - London Paddington.
Locations:
Hemerdon Bank (Devon) - Unassisted, until 7029 stalled close to the summit!
There was plenty of steam too.
47773 sent to rescue 7029 & assist from the rear.
The train was 30 mins down leaving Hemerdon
Burlescombe (Somerset)- Drove very fast to get to this location on the climb to Whiteball Tunnel.
Made it with under 10 mins to spare.
7029 sped through only 5 mins down!
A brilliant achievement.

A superb coverage of an unforgettable day Ger. Clun just couldn't give any more on Hemerdon, and her performance over the rest of the two day event was absolutely magnificent.....Bob

Thanks Bob. Not sure yet what the problem was. Club had plenty of steam & as you say she couldn't give anymore. Ray Churchill wasn't on the footplate. Have heard that there was an issue with the brakes? Club performed brilliantly over the two days making up all the lost time on route to Bristol.

7:18 dragged brakes were the cause of clun to suddenly stop on the foot of the bank of hemerdon

@@caerphillycastleI certainly do because looking at the clip you can see the problem the dragging brakes were causing clun to slow down and then stop at the bank of Hemerdon and the 47 was called in to push it up the hill
