You mentioned buying groceries. I have them delivered for a couple of weeks, then I will shop myself so that I can by meat, chicken, etc. I get produce at the Farmer’s Market.
I want to try your tip of not saving shipping bags and using our reusables more. Also the not trying to wake up early to do things. And clearing out under the beds. And ending the subscriptions. I don’t think I would ever try to do a word doc brain dump at the end of every day and then revisit it in the morning because that just sounds like so much work to me 😂 thank you!
I stopped storing things under the beds! Once I decided that under my bed was NOT a storage unit, I decluttered until I no longer needed the storage space. Something so simple was transformative for me.
1. drink tap water 2. dont buy junk 3. cut your own hair 4. dont take samples 5. dont cater to picky eaters 6. grocery shop less frequently 7. say no to more requests 8. do laundry less frequently 9.no ironing 10. stop buying birthday cards 11. less eating out 12. cancel unused subscriptions 13. buy more used things 14. get rid of duplicates 15. stick with known good products 16. spend within means 17. no storing under beds 18. use only nonbreakable china 19. throw out extra plastic grocery bags 20. dont rely on paper calendar for scheduling 21. tap water only 22. no flat stacking clothes 23. small not large purse 24. get rid of unused kitchen gadgets 25. no morning routines 26. decorate for season not holiday 27. no trendy clothes 28. reduce number of throw pullows 29. no to do list 30. dont watch news daily 31. do not compare yourself to others.
I think watching news on a daily basis is important. My father after dinner watched it regularly, and it was my time to be with him as a kid. Yes, we all know it's depressing, but to be current on what's going on in the world is important. Again, I was a kid long before social media came along so news was a very essential thing back then, also tv wasn't a 24 hour thing back then like today. Also no reality show garbage like you see on every channel today.
I have to use a really good water purifier with city water, city water is disgusting🤢I would drink it as last resort of course , I’m not completely stupid lol, but even boiling it helps removed the chlorine smell and taste👍🏻
I make "care" packages for the homeless with the hotel shampoos; conditioners, lotions, etc. Add a washrag; socks; granola bars, comb/brush to the "care" pkg makes it useful. God bless you and yours.
I found grocery shopping more frequently helps cut down my overall food waste. I only purchase what I'll eat within approximately three days. The food doesn't have the chance to spoil or get freezer burn, and knowing I'll have less choices forces me to make wiser initial selections at the store.
Interesting! I suppose that is the concept with some countries who shop at fresh food markets only. They buy what they need just for that day and make the shopping part of their everyday routine. With two (almost 3) teen boys in our house - our grocery bill is rising all the time it seems!!! ❤️
We stopped buying into the commercialization of Christmas and no longer spend $1500 out of obligation. Our young kids, older kids, and family are given cash to buy what they want, but that's it and it's wayyy less expensive. I didn't lie to them about Santa, so they already knew any stocking gifts were from us, but we've eliminated that, as well.
Good for you! I’ve said before that we only do gift exchange Christmas every other year. Some people really hate that idea and think we are being mean to our kids. I’ve found that when the expectation of gifts is taken off the table, we actually all enjoy each others company so much more! ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottage We've noticed that, too! And they're more inclined to want to help others because they're not preoccupied with what they're going to get. We decided we'd save for a camper instead of buying presents. It's a better investment than toys that break or they don't play with them. We love to camp, so they were willing to pull away from the commercialization, as well, because they're excited about our goal. They thought it was a great idea! And they still got a few things from their grandparents they were able to unwrap. When you think about it, there's always an excuse, I mean holiday, every month to pour money into, to stimualte an economy that doesn't give a crap about us. No, thank you. Hahahahaha!
@@amychen2504 They learn from home, so they're not exposed to a lot of the traditional schooling. For me, I couldn't put them back in school after 'Rona. I had such a shift in my perception of who we are as humans and what the traditional schooling was doing to society. No other species sends their offspring away for 8 hours a day, ya know? I know a lot of people don't have a choice because they work outside the home, which again, no other species does that. Hahaha! We're indoctrinated and programmed to live in ways that aren't conducive for humanity.
This may seem weird to most people, but I stopped wearing different styles of pants and shoes. I found one style of washable black pants and one style of black slip-on walking shoes that fit and feel comfortable, are reasonably priced and long-lasting. I buy multiple pairs on sale and wear the same style every day, changing only the style/color of tops and accessories. My entire wardrobe fits in one drawer, everything works together and I save a lot of time and money not coordinating outfits or buying items for specific occasions.
@@ArrowHillCottage It fits my casual lifestyle since I don't wear dresses, skirts or shorts. And I wore a uniform for work so I'm used to wearing the same thing every day.
@@lindadorman2869reminds me of how Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates would dress up on daily basis. Can you tell and teach me what are the essential clothes must a woman have in her closet/s and how many of each? I want to downsize the quantity of clothes that I own and be able to fit them in one sportsbag together with other stuff including important documents. Thanks.
As a minimalist, really disliking shopping is a wonderful attitude to develop which saves you sooo much money. I hate shopping malls, even a grocery store frustrates me!! I’m glad I’m like this!
Yes 👏 to quitting News! This has helped me incredibly with focusing on what is essential in my life and with eliminating SO much distraction. Which is ironic, as News claim to be essential. Turns out they hardly ever are...
People who don't take in the news won't know what is happening around them. I wonder if that's why my boss doesn't know what the ada is? They missed it in the news.
I have to say that I have been doing for many years almost everything you have in your list. I am not a minimalist, but I am definitely frugal. I started to cut my own hair when I was a teen and always cut my children's hair. My husband insisted that I cut his hair as well and I did it for 20 years. My son was in college before he ever went to a barber. I do some seasonal decorating but gave up the tree when the kids left home. Just recently I started to store the shirts, shorts, and slacks vertically and have to say I really like it that way. When I grew up my mother used a wringer washer and hung clothes outside. We had to wear the same clothes 2 or 3 days before they went in the wash. The same towels were used for the full week. Even now the clothes I have worn and are not dirty or sweaty are hung on hooks to wear again. I have 3 levels of clothes, good wear, everyday wear, and gardening wear. Good clothes becomes everyday and everyday is relegated to gardening when they get older. Some things get donated, but most of it ends up in a recycle bag of worn out items. This goes for shoes as well as other clothing. My pantry is well stocked so that I don't have to shop that often. I plan my meals around what is in the freezer, in the pantry, or coming in fresh in the garden. Although I only cook for myself now, I make meals to feed 4-6 and freeze dinners that can be heated in the microwave. I never purchase water, soda, and processed food.
@olderandwiser78 That's wonderful! I've been cutting my own hair too for years. I did try to dye it when I was eighteen. I seriously regretted it! I let my hair and scalp heal. Had it professionally done. In the past three years, I've begun caning at home. And making my own salad dressing. Best decision ever! Since I've had 5 glass bottles for a project, I used it all. I def recommend you try caning foods too. It will save you money and time in the long run. If you are not a prepping type of person, it's okay. There are other ways to go frugal. 👍
@@hameley12 Canning is very easy to do. I have been canning food for close to 60 years for myself and helped my mother do it when I was a child. For many years we would go to pick our own peaches, apples, and strawberries when there were local orchards. Making applesauce and apple butter is very easy as is making jam. When I had an abundance of cucumbers last year I tried freezing them. They are perfect for using in smoothies. I dry my own dill, basil, oregano, parsley, mint, and thyme. The basil can be used to make pesto and put in ice cube trays to freeze in small quantities. This year I am allowing the cilantro to go to seed, so that I get coriander. The one thing that I have never done is dye my hair. I am 78 and only now getting salt and pepper gray on top. I don't know if that is from genes, eating right, or not using chemicals on my hair.
One stand-up comedian said if he went home right now where he grew up the same hand towel would be sitting on the side of the sink in the bathroom. He said all 7 kids used the same towel to dry their hands and he doesn't think it was ever washed because he always saw it there.
thanks for sharing such wisdom. What amazed me was that every idea you mentioned, I have also integrated into our lives over the years. although I'm 40-50 years older than you. we seem to be like-minded. Even the way you fold clothes, and the cards - I stopped buying them and began a hobby of making my own unique cards to share. After I retired from teaching, my husband and I decided to simplify our lives further and sold or donated nearly 50 years worth of possessions. We were both collectors of many things so it was a dramatic change when we moved full-time into a 5th wheel RV. We decided to focus on what is really important and pursue the things we love - birding, sharing the gospel, and volunteer work. We also enjoy travel, reading, writing, vegan cooking, jigsaw puzzles- the simple things of life. This small life suits us fine and allows us to have more time to help others. Blessings to you and your family.
For me, not eating out is a no-brainer. Cooking saves me so much money! I also repurpose and recycle. Thrift stores are a great place to shop. The quality is better than new, and the money often goes to charity. Thanks for the video.
I do most of the things you've mentioned. But I still buy cards 2/$1.29 at Dollar Tree. I get a lot of pleasure out of sending them. Most of my family now is under 50 so they love getting them since not many people send them anymore. I, too, have minimalized holiday decorating. Flag in the window for patriotic holidays and a nativity scene and LED candles for Christmas. I live alone now, kids are grown, so that's enough!
@@ArrowHillCottage. TJ Maxx sells small card sets next to the Thank You notes. Most are blank inside & are attractive enough to be used for birthdays. Ross for Less sells them as well.
I don't like receiving cards. I don't like the accumulation of them, but feel guilty about getting rid of them. So it's an ever growing stack of cards that usually just have someone's signature on them, nothing super meaningful. That's why I don't give out cards anymore. Even if I write something meaningful, it's more junk for that person to have to store somewhere. I told my family and friends, "If you have cards from me, please feel free to recycle them!"
@@megatuanis A lot of people feel that way and you shouldn't feel guilty about tossing them! (I love going through them sometimes and remembering the people who sent them because they are mostly deceased and I miss them.) If you can't escape the guilt--there are some things I had held onto (usually gifts) that cluttered my house. I took photos of them then put them in the donation box. I can look at them any time I like and remember the sentiment of the giver without all the clutter.
Buying secondhand is something I wish I had done more of when younger with a young family. One thing you might like to add to your list is to not put your kids into too many paid after school activities; they are expensive, kids are tired after school and they can do without it. Not accepting too many requests on your time or pocket is a good one; I rarely go to anything anymore as I find I go/do to please the other person but I don’t please myself- not doing that anymore. I don’t accept wedding invitations anymore (except my children) as they are a 10hour bore-a-thon, nor do I go to funerals except very close family.
Oh yes! The after school activities is a big one. That can get very stressful for parents AND kids (if they are in too many)! Good reminder this time of year! ❤️
Doing laundry every day is a life saver for me. I get overwhelmed by the pile for the whole week. Daily laundry also helps me keep all the rugs, throw blankets, throw pillow covers, etc washed more regularly.
I just got tired of hearing the washer running. I loaded it 2 days ago , today I UN-Liaded the washer - and threw away the bed comforter. I saw the blanket waiting to be washed. I bagged it. Went to the dump . 4 bags of trash in the dump today. .. came back looking for more to haul off on Thursday. Extra pillowcases, bed sheets more blankets thinking what’s to go next.
I did do a load a day as well for years. I would habitually throw one in every morning. It was a FlyLady suggestion Kept my laundry from taking over. But my washer had a much smaller capacity than now. So, I do a one day approach as well to save water.
@@bonnieinthespirit6373 We have two sets of bed sheets, primarily because we have a bi-weekly housecleaner who strips the bed and remakes them with the second set of sheets. If we didn't have a second set, we'd have to wash them all and make everyone's bed after work and school.
Great video! I already do much of what you have listed: I gave up soda over twenty years ago, coffee over fifteen years ago, I cut my hair myself, I don't bring free things home, I've learned to say no, I don't buy cards at all, I eat out about twice a year, I use trial subscriptions and then cancel if I realize that I'm not going to use them, I don't store things under the bed, I don't use a paper calendar, I don't buy bottled water, I fold my t-shirts vertically, I got rid of kitchen gadgets, I wake up very early but I ease into my day, I don't decorate for holidays but I can appreciate other peoples decorations, I stopped buying trendy fashion and now have a classic wardrobe, I donated all throw pillows for my bed and sofa, I reduced the amount of news and social media content due to toxicity and I try not to compare myself to other people.
William Clark. I gave up on sodas and other sugary drinks years ago, too. A long with meat and any animal-based meals. I started caning foods, making my own iced tea, making my salad dressings, cooking at home, and having only one streaming service subscription. My bf and I have made our own rules. One of them has improved our communication and lessened our stress by 110%. The main rule in the bedroom is no mobile phone or tablets. Respect each other's personal spaces or if we need to hang out with friends. He has guys nights and I have girl's night out. Along with other small rules. Such as taking turns cooking and grocery shopping. It's incredible how much money one can save when you know how to fix things, cook, and clean up. And how our relationship grows as we get to know each other. 😊
That’s great. I did the same. But.. I found more goodies stored. I filled up my house. Now, I’m moving it out. It took up my time, space, & energy. So, now it goes to the dump. I can’t find anyone who wants my goodies .
You’re welcome! I think honestly that the ‘early morning’ has been pushed as the prime through social media…I wonder how many of them actually DO wake up at 5am? Probably some, but maybe a portion of them just do it for the camera. Don’t feel guilty if your optimal time of day is later! ❤️

Love all your ideas!! I do a lot of them. I don’t like anything under the beds, I try not to get trendy clothes . The brain dumb helps my mind to shut off at the end off the day. Also I try not to watch news or listen to things that are super negative and I can’t do anything about it. Just need to trust God and remember he’s in control❤️❤️
Great tips!! You shared some things I haven’t thought of before. Simplifying medicines, toiletries, makeup, and cleaning products has been huge for me! I keep: Vinegar for mopping, cleaning mirrors and windows, my glasses. Baking soda for toilet, laundry, and dishwasher. One bar of soap for everything else including body, face, a little in the mop water, hand cleaning, countertops, etc. I use regular toothpaste. I started buying the $1 makeup instead of the $50 makeup. I have one lipstick, one eyebrow pencil, one SPF foundation, one bronzer, and that’s it. For hair, hands, body, face moisturizer I use jojoba oil. For meds I have Tylenol and cough syrup. I got rid of bandaids. I simplified some clothing (socks) to be more Steve Jobs like, but still have some fun stuff too. I got rid of the clothes and shoes I don’t wear or wore even though I didn’t like wearing. I didn’t buy new so laundry is easier now because there’s less of it. For dishes I simplified to only Pyrex for storage and only 4 bowl/plates… a bowl that is wider and more plate like. I don’t have bowls and plates I have just one dish that is both… kinda like a spork. I have one pan. I got rid of can openers and only buy cans with peel off lids. It’s one less thing to wash and replace and they always break on me. I’m in the process of going through pictures and getting rid of pictures where I no longer remember someone’s name.
Wow! If everyone picked even 10 of those to quit, our lives, our society and our earth would improve significantly. Thanks for the time and thought you put into this!
I love being able to do grocery store pick up/drive up. It actually keeps me from making unnecessary purchases. When I buy birthday cards or greeting cards, I now get them at Dollar General or Dollar Tree. I refuse to spend $5+ on a card the person throws away. You gave so many great tips and I think our family could implement more of them. We only buy pop on special occasions, gave up TV years ago (we told the kids we could buy a camper in place of TV, then we lost the camper to tornado damage and never got TV back), quit ironing and so many of the things you've mentioned. Thanks for another great video!
I have heard that from people - that they save money by doing grocery pick up since they aren’t in the store to see all the shiny tempting things! Makes sense! ❤️
I love the idea of decorating for the season and not specific holidays (with Christmas being the only one for holiday decor). I quit taking the sample/travel sizes too. I grocery shop every 10-14 days and hope to extend it to 3 weeks soon. I gave my iron and ironing board away years ago. I got rid of all my mismatch dishes and bought a simple white set for 4. On the rare occasions that I have company, I will use paper or plastic wares. I meal plan for two weeks and then only buy what I need for that time period. One thing I do that really helps me is to keep a list of standard household staples - non-people food items only. Everything from kitchen items, vitamins, household cleaners, cat food or litter, shampoo & conditioner, soap, etc.. As I get paid once a month, I check my inventory monthly (or when I realize I am almost out of an item). I can then add those items to my grocery list for my next shopping trip. The list is kept in the Notes section of my phone for easy reference. One other thing I do (because I dislike shopping) is to arrange my shopping list according to the layout of the store. I start with non-food items, then food with frozen stuff last and work my way through the store from the back to the front. It has helped me to get in & out fast. I also go as soon as the store opens in the morning and less people are there.
Doing a click and collect (that’s what it’s called in Australia) has saved so much money because there are no impulse purchases. Doing this on bulk groceries has been brilliant. If I do need something like fresh bread I will go to my smaller local supermarket. Decluttering negative people (including family) in your life is a must. I think we have all grown up with guilt trips put on us. My circle is very small now that my son has moved out and I am more than happy with that.
I already do most of your habits! It would be great if you would incorporate environmental concerns. E.g. another to buy or take home small toys or other junk: it's almost all plastic! Or using your cloth shopping bags: no plastic for the landfill. Thanks❤
I no longer store items under my bed. No longer watch the news and many more you mentioned. One thing I still hang onto is my paper calendar. I enjoy my simple life and enjoy hearing about yours! 😊
Wow, Angela, we resemble on so many points you mentioned. The one thing I do differently is I order grocery delivery - simplified my life hugely 😅 I agree on not wearing trendy clothes. I can add that I also drastically minimized my makeup - only a liner and a mascara for my eyes, that's it :)) Instead I invest my time and money in healthy food and physical activity - gym, hikes, biking that is. This is for my health; and as a bonus helps keep my body fit and my complexion fresh - which none of clothes or makeup can do, I believe. Thanks for the video! Much love from Kazakhstan ❤
I’ve heard a lot of people say they really like the grocery delivery/pick up! And I agree with you on prioritizing keeping yourself healthy over trying to ‘look good’ ❤️
I agree with so much you are saying. However - I'm a prepper. Its just so important to have basic stuff for your family in even of emergency. Keep at least 3 months worth of food. My goal is one year. That kind of stuff is worth the space it takes up because it may save your life.
Wow. I've never been able to pile up more than one month's supply. Actually, that was an experiment. I remembered an old compulsory reading about a siege in 1552, found it weird that the defenders could pile up enough food for everyone for several months, so I tried to imitate it, but failed miserably.
I love all the tips you've listed as well as those mentioned in the comments. I've been cutting my own hair and my husband's for several years, have clothes that do not require ironing (but i keep the iron for formal wears), weekly laundry, have an "eat leftover day" once a week to make sure no leftovers are piling up in the fridge, noting staples/groceries in need of restocking for grocery day reference, takes freebie soaps so i wont have to buy handsoaps 😅 limits eating out, and reuses gift bags when giving gifts.
Great tip! I’m a fan of a brain dump each month, no iron, and not keeping up with fashion trends. 😊 I fold my clothes vertical, but even more simple for my kids is letting them keep up with their drawers and I help with a seasonal clean out and organize. Not so pretty to look at, but one less thing to keep up with. I keep wanting to tighten up with meal rotation- definitely top of my to-simplify list!
I’m totally with you on ironing, I only iron when I’m sewing, and then I’m happy to do it because it allows me to creat something cute. I’m going to watching your food system video next, I’m truly interested in simplifying my life in this area too. Thanks for the great ideas.
I think its crazy one of your points was doing laundry every day as someone who has been trying to do it everyday because I can't stand looking at the dirty laundry and folding one load every day is easier for me than 8 loads once a week😂
I like having fancy dishes, but I use them for everyday and I don't fret if one breaks. No, I don't keep extra/china sets. I like every day to be special so, yes, to beautiful dishes.
I agree totally with the meals. I used to tell my family, 'I'm not a short oder cook'. They were always allowed to choose not to eat something or get themselves something else. I'm working on getting rid of soda.
Meal time was always such a struggle - and I wanted it to be a time of fellowship for the family. So much happier now that we can just enjoy our food, and each others company! ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottage I think you came up with a great solution. With 3 picky kids and a picky husband, it would have been really hard for me to find things they all liked.
Haha, I used to say the same thing while I struggled making an alternative dinner for my persnickety son. While the rest of the family ate spaghetti, he refused to eat noodles with spaghetti sauce. So he ate a hamburger patty and buttered noodles. Wow, I am old. That was in the 90s.
Our lives sound really similar in many respects, except I don't have the kids to juggle. I have enjoyed simplifying my life, financially, stuff wise, mentally and routine wise. It makes for a much easier life and I feel calmer and have a much better work life balance. More tech, more stuff, and more gadgets actually makes life more stressful, not easier. The only thing I don't do is use a dryer, because a) I can't afford one and b) I couldn't afford to run one. I find hanging garments on hangers to dry near an open window or in a well ventilated space is cheaper and also reduces the need for ironing.
Enjoyed listening to you while cleaning today. I love having my reusable water bottles. I never leave home without one. It is too hot in AZ. I am by myself now in my later years and simplifying my life again is working. I lived very simple when raising our kids. We didn't have a large income. Even when I went to work in a law office. I had about a weeks worth of clothes to mix and match. Week-end wear was 2 shirts and 2 pairs of jeans. I bartered for haircuts back when raising kids. Baby sat for the hairdresser. Now, I have very little hair and I do pay for haircuts. I tried cutting my bangs years ago and that was a disaster. Enjoyed listening to you!
My wife buys soda water; 1 & 2 ltr size. I got one empty of each size and I make my daily electrolyte water. I’ve used same two bottles for over a year. Yay me!!!!!! 😂
Great video. I had a tendency to over pack for vacations. Now I pack, then go through it a 2nd time and reduce items, and attempt a 3rd time to reduce what I don't need. It has helped me significantly reduce the weight of my suitcases and camping gear.
I’m one of the weird people who enjoys grocery shopping. I don’t iron. I cut my own hair. I’ve stopped buying soda but I do drink it when I go out occasionally. I stopped using fabric softener, dryer sheets, and never bought dryer balls. My dryer rings when it is done and I take out clothes immediately. A lot of static is from over drying and wrinkling comes from the clothes just sitting there.
Thanks for sharing. You are so genuine and natural and it was a pleasure watching your video. Am already doing the following: 1. don't take samples; 2. don't buy birthday cards; 3. eat out less often; 4. no extra shopping bags; 5. removed all throw pillows (my husband too hated them); 6. don't watch news.
I started downsizing about 5 years ago when my parents died. They had so much junk and knick knacks. I don’t want to put my kids through that. I think organizing everything is the key. Make sure everything has a place and keep stuff in its place! If I don’t love it I get rid of it. Now if my husband would get on board I’d be set.
Bravo!!! And, do not give up! I cheer you on... example is the best of teachers!! And being calmer, happier, financially healthier (because of intentional buying) will go a lonnng way (at inviting your husband to do the same ... Go! Go! Go! :) helene
It's funny when you talked about letting go of haircuts to save money, because in my country (Morocco) it only costs the equivalent of $4 for a haircut along with brushing. 😊
A haircut here where i am costs $40+ tip! I cut my own hair and my husbands and kids hair. I do get my hair colored professionally though, i feel like its one of the few things i do for myself as a mom of 7 that makes me feel good!!
I cut our families hair for 37 years and I still cut husbands hair. Our adult son received a nice expensive cut and one cheaper cut that was awful. He decided a good ✂️ and free was better, and gets one right after dad...lol.
Love this list! I've never liked soda/pop. I love water. I do the refill thing too. Using same bottles. Toys...kids learn to use their imagination the fewer toys they have. I used to be addicted to those little hotel bottles and whatnots. Separate meals for family members...realllyyy? Who does that? This is dinner. Eat it or go to your room. People don't call me too often about frivolous things because they already know...Laundry everyday? Doesn't everyone's kids do their own laundry? I hate ironing 6:22 more than any chore. They sell blank cards in bulk and you can personalize them. Subscriptions. Waste of money if you don't use them. It's hard for me to get rid of dupes and stuff I've had since the 80s. Everyone eats off the same dishes here. I always forget to bring my reusable bags into the store. I love old fashioned calendars. I love writing. I got rid of all of my heavy leather bags for lightweight canvas totes. I do whatever I feel like in the morning. Sometimes that's staying in the bed. I do the seadonal decorating too. Never been a fashion, designer, brand label fan. I have 70 pillows on my couch. My husband just doesn't get it. Lists are my salvation. I stopped watching local news and Facebook and other social because it keeps people in a state of fear, worry, hate etc. We have to stop being brainwashed into consuming things especially emotion s, based on marketing. Thank you so much for your amazing, very positive channel
Every single one of these is good suggestions!! I have adopted most of these with the Christmas one being last. I did haul out all my stuff last Christmas, and after putting it all away last year, I was EXHAUSTED!! I won't be doing that again...ever. just a few festive things will I keep, plus I will need a whole lot less space to store it all!
I have a top cupboard in a lounge room wall unit that I store about 10 retro mid-century Xmas items (my kids are all adults); it takes 10 minutes to put them out and 10 minutes to pack away :)
I stopped coloring my hair. I started at 40 and now at 73, I quit. I love my healthy salt and pepper hair. I do get a cut/style few times a year. My husband begged me to cut his hair for years. I really did not want to but gave in and learned how to do it. He loves it and we love the $savings.
Great video! • I stop watching TV about 15 years ago, only have 1 TV in our home and my only social media is YT. No regrets. • I agree with most of your list, my exceptions: 1. Haircuts- I have thick curly hair and need this mane kept in check😄 2. Ironing- I iron EVERYTHING, including t-shirts. Therapeutic [crazy, I know] 3. Bags- we keep all bags in a 3 sectional bin in the laundry/ mud area: paper, plastic and reusable.
I have already announced to my husband that when our 15 year old Sony TV no longer works, I don't want to replace it. I am the only one that watches TV at home. I have a date every weeknight with Andy Griffith and Barney Fife and then it's off again until next time anyway.
We do a once a week grocery pick up. Sunday afternoon I plan a menu, check my grocery list where I jot down what we are close to running out of and make the online grocery order. 5-10 minutes max. We mark no substitutions on the order and take a quick inspection as the grocery packer loads it into our van. They are usually perfect.
Girl before you even mentioned Corelle plates, I was already thinking that 😂 I grew up witg them but my family had a design on it. Once I became an adult and was able to get my own dishes, I bought everything Corelle in winter frost, NO patterns 😂
Thanks for these tips! I agree on almost all of them. I only drink coffee and water. I recommend buying a Zero Water Pitcher/Filtering system... Reasonable price; I've used mine for many years, just replace the filters when needed. The water tastes so good! Yes, I use my thermos water bottle at home and in the car. No more soft drinks! I don't own an iron. I only own minimal clothing pieces. Congrats on all your ideas!
I also stopped decorating for specific holidays because it just wasn’t fun for me anymore. Then I did like you - I decorated for each season! But this year I’m taking it a step further, and I just use my favorite items (mostly antiques I have collected) and just put a little touch of holiday/season bits on a pretty glass shelf in the bathroom - ‘cause everyone will see them there! (I am quite a lot older than you, so have been doing it for a long time.) You might reconsider ordering curbside pickup. Especially for heavier items. I love the fact that they put it all directly in the trunk and I don’t have to take it down from the shelf, lift it out of the cart, lift it into my car! I let hubby unload it and bring it inside. Done! And it saved my back!! 😅
My mother taught us to fold our own clothes at an early age. I can’t even picture my mom folding my clothes as a child. Teaching them early is a good skill and teaches them how to be careful with looking through their clothes. I know so many adults that never fold their clothes because they never learned the value of storing their clothes neatly. Make it easy on yourself and teach them to fold their own clothes at an early age. You’ll free up a lot of your time.
As a mom who is done with raising my kids. I wanted to see what you recommend for families now. I found myself agreeing with EVERYTHING you do. Because I did the EXACT same things through those 18 years. Just an extra tip about carrying a purse. I discovered that only using a crossbody utility purse for everyday was the way to go! I didn’t have to worry about losing it or having it stolen from a cart.
I have a phone case that closes and has a few slots for cards and cash. I generally just need it and a set of keys. If I'm wearing something without pockets, I grab a small crossbody, just as you mention, to drop them in.
I do, or don´t, a lot of these things too. I´ve found so much more peace not listening to the news with all the negative that you get to hear. During the pandemic so many were so stressed after listening to all the statistics every day and it didn´t help them one bit knowing how many new victems there were from day to day, but they still insisted doing it.
I actually do almost all these things already (except the hair cutting - oh my! I know I would never be able to cut my own hair with any level of coordination! But I only go about twice a year - so no issues there). The one thing that I am forced to do, because it's a state law, is no more plastic bags from any store. I actually get the 'contraband' from a friend from out of state when he visits. Although I like using reusable bags for shopping, I use those throw away bags more than I realized...like the day before trash day and there is no room in the kitchen bag for anything else; I'll hang a plastic bag up for the last day's trash rather than use a full sized trash bag. I prefer all trash be gone on trash day! :-). Also, when traveling and want to bring boots along, I prefer to put them in plastic bags rather than purchase a bag just for the few times I may need it, maybe once every few years.
I think I already do most of your suggestions. This has happened gradually rather than a conscious effort. My favourite ones are NO IRONING and being able to say no. I always thank people for invitations, wish them well but firmly decline. It took a while before I allowed myself not to be persuaded (manipulated!) but I have it down to a fine art now. I should try to follow your example of not immersing myself in news. I gave up watching TV news decades ago but replaced this habit with news on the Internet. Thanks for a great list. As usual you are calm and concise! Just what I need in my life. Thanks.
I am one of those weirdos who loves ironing! Many of my summer clothes are linen so ironing, a meditative activity, keeps me from looking like a slob! Stopped coloring my hair which saves many hours in the chair and lots of $$$$$$ though I still go to the salon for a trim every three or four months. Do not trust myself with shears on the wild Irish hair! Never was a big soda drinker and cannot remember the last time I bought any. Food shopping is a pleasure for me. Lots of farmer’s markets here so buying fresh several times a week is best. Just what the house needs so nothing rots in the back of the fridge. (Also found something called Vegibag which preserves greens better than anything else.) Eating out is nearly nil. Never sure what kinds of oils they use, most veg oils are pretty unhealthy and it is cheaper for restaurants to use canola (yecchhh!) than premium olive. Cooking at home for the win on many fronts. Do not own a car. No paper towels or napkins which are pretty much of a drag on the planet. Using cloth rags which can be laundered. No wrapping paper either as I learned how to wrap gifts in fabric from the Japanese. Sometimes the wrapping is also part of the gift, such as a scarf. Morning routine is as gentle as possible. Some say how we enter the day mimics the first hours of an infant’s life so it is a nice way to be daily reborn. Thanks so much your generous videos!
I absolutely love these! Great ways to simplify! I have been wanting to try the Japanese wrapping of gifts. I like the idea of the wrapping being part of the gift itself. ❤️
I got rid of the dresser in my bedroom and now have a beautiful antique chest-of-drawers instead. I keep my wardrobe small by only using the chest for my clothing.
I found this beautiful blue stained desk armoire thing at a thrift store and now I use it for my tv and “chest of drawers.” Lol. (I know. Yes. I have a tv in the bedroom but I also love how I can close the doors on it and not see it when it’s not in use lol). Wasn’t hard since I decluttered and all seasons of folded clothes fit in there along with misc items like winter accessories.
@@goodenoughgirl8102 That sounds wonderful! It makes me so happy to have a small wardrobe in a beautiful cabinet. Everything feels more special that way.
@@cantocant2346 Oh yes. For sure! I just love laying on my bed looking at how “quaint” and cozy it all is lol (also I have solid blue blackout curtains and this smaller cream furniture thing with fake tulips in a vase on top, so it’s like a French country boudoirs vibe. I’m sure yours is gorgeous!
Just getting started in letting go of things!I was very motivated by your 31 things you no longer do. I listening to any hour of local/ national news and then I switch off. This infuriates my husband but it’s my peace I am working on. Thank you for the starting list!
Fun video to hear tips , some known tried & true & others will definitely try. 2 things I no longer do or purchase #1 dryer sheets ( for the past 2 years I have only used wool dryer balls & #2 hair highlighting or coloring appointments (past 4 years have let hair color be natural & it’s so much healthier ) Two things I will definitely try is stop purchasing bottled water & cut back on news of negative impact . Being mindful of what i consume in my body or input to my brain I have noticed makes a huge impact on my day . Thank you again for the tips ❤️
I have loved having groceries delivered every two weeks, even though it involved a monthly fee. It has been so quick and easy to shop from a list, avoiding the impulse buys and the health risks of mingling with other shoppers. However, just this week the store has increased the minimum spend for each shop, so I will no longer be able to use it. Very sad! I will try the pick-up option which someone here has mentioned.
I think you would really like grocery pickup. I met a woman who worked in that area. I was telling her how impressed I have been at the freshness of the produce. In my experience, I get MUCH better fruits & veggies thru pickup than I see in the store. She explained that at my local grocery store (and I guess others) they have a separate stock of produce in their area to pull from, which gives them a fresher stock to offer you. I have only shopped this way for a couple of years and I love it. It saves so much time and I spend less on impulse items, also.
I love your list. I do use a paper calendar but it is just my husband I and I have used it one for as long as I can remember 😊. The kitchen is pretty much off limits for me as far as decluttering as my husband is the one who does the cooking. Something I know longer buy is home decor. I have what I love. When I stop loving things, if goes but I’m not into replacing it. And I’m with you, I hate those plastic bags .🥴🥴
Same. I don’t know why I thought I should cater to my kids when they were little! I think I worried they wouldn’t grow if I didn’t feed them. Now my oldest boys are taller than me! ❤️
You are singing my song. I have managed this way for many years. As the kids have gone on to their own way, I have gotten worse…. I need to get back to streamlining things again. I just subscribed. Thank you!
We are twins, I do almost everything you mentioned. The only thing I still hang on to is I like paper calendars. My two favorites you mentioned that make my life easier is giving up cola, and do not store anything under my bed.
yes, yes, yes! I'm in "small bag team", this is so much easier to carry and to find things. Same with finding "perfect" shampoo or other hygine/beauty products, I found good enough and stick to it for years now. I also want to do again "no news daily" thing, as I practiced it before and it was so good for my well-being, but somehow I stopped it, need to go back to this. Thank you for many good ideas.
7 3 18 month old. I downsize clothes to 6 outfits six socjs 2 coats. 2 boots.. etc. It helps downsizing the clothing to downsize laundry. . Love these tips!❤ and i cut my own and kids hair too.
Loved your video! I didn’t expect anything new from your video however I was pleasantly surprised. A lot of things really resonated with me which I am going to implement 😊
Great tips - I haven’t ironed for years. If I need to flatten like the front of a shirt placket I put on the bed with a heavy book on it. I move slow in the morning too . I am going to check my extra kitchen appliances or utensils to make more room.
I bought light weight clothes so that I can hand wash all.laundry daily. If the weather is colder we wear more layers so that we can hand-wash everything easily I hang everything on hangers to air-dry I use hand towels instead of bath towels possibly once every 6 weeks I might run the washing machine
Great video! I recently started living below my means and buying more previously owned items. I bought an inexpensive new purse after not finding anything at a second hand store and overlooked the posted measurements and the purse is about 1/4 the size of my old purse! I told myself that I am now doing the frugal lifestyle and increasing my minimalist lifestyle---so there ya go---I was forced to mnimize my purse experience. My old purse was getting too heavy anyways---too big and too much stuff. Great tips!
Good idea 💡 about organizing clothing in drawers folded and neatly. For socks and underwear too. Great 💡 kids to make greeting cards / birthday cards for their friends... Have a blessed Summer
I cant cut my own hair…it is a wild mess that needs a professional touch. 1) I don’t buy soda or juice only seltzer water 2) I only buy plain yogurt and add fruit, granola to sweeten 3) I avoid buying take out 4) I don’t buy cosmetics/skin care just to get the gift with purchase bonus buys 5) I don’t buy trinket type souvenirs when I travel 6) I limit junk food and processed foods 7) I limit my fancy coffee runs 8) I plan my menu based on what is on sale 9) I mix and match my clothes and accessorize to create my own trends/chic look 10) I don’t buy things to keep up or impress others 11) I don’t eat breakfast since doing Intermittent fasting 12) I make my own cards or send email greetings with personalized digital content 13) I don’t give gifts to people over 18. I take them out for a nice meal instead. 14) I refrain from buying things just because it is on sale or because it looks cute/nice 15) I refrain from buying too much groceries as I have a tendency to want ingredients handy but end up throwing out a lot because I get too busy to cook them 16) I gave up cable tv 17) I don’t buy books any more. I borrow ebooks from the library 18) I don’t buy plain bottled water. I just use Brita and stainless steel Swell bottles 19) I wear minimal makeup 20) I gave up contacts and just wear my glasses
Gave up soda, much better for my health. Not giving up paying for haircuts, I have naturally curly hair and it needs to be cut right or it's a mess. How do you get enough produce to last? I need to go to the store at least weekly for fresh produce, if nothing else. I use Corelle dishes that I've had for years. With arthritis in my hands I tend to drop things, so unbreakable is best for me. I rarely use a purse at all. My phone, credit cards in a holder on the back of the phone and I'm good to go normally. Only have 2 pillows on the couch, both of which I made.
I usually buy a wide variety of produce and use up the things that are more fragile (broccoli or berries for example) and then keep the apples and carrots for week 2. Most of our produce is kept in the fridge and lasts a little longer because of that as well I think. ❤️
I can't believe how many of those 31 things that I already do. When your kids grow up and move out of the house, that greatly minimalizes your life. It strange to clean your house and it stays that way. Debt adds stress so we stay out of debt, no house payment, no car payment, etc. We do use our credit card and charge everything, then pay it off at the end of the month to avoid interest but usually get several hundred dollars a year back for using it. Every now and then we go through our household inventory to donate or throw away things we haven't used in a while.
Thank you for a careful and considered outline/narrative on simplifying 'ones' life. Your video is a good coach for putting a chaotic life in order. 💪👍😉
I would encourage you to investigate the carnivore diet (proper human diet). Once acclimated, it is simple to cook and simple to shop. Most of your shelf space and pots and pans are for cooking veggies. It is healthy and will allow you to eliminate meds, creams, supplements, and doctor visits.
Our list is very similar. Except I use really nice dishes. It’s something I really enjoy. I know sometimes they get broken. Saving some for using in a mosaic. My granddaughter who is eight stayed with me last night. When I went to feed all my fur babies I didn’t have enough of their dishes so I remarked I needed to go to thrift store to get some new ones. She was puzzled and asked why her mom and I always went to buy things at the thrift store. I had to explain that it was good to use something that was already used because it keeps things from going into the landfill so better for the environment plus it saves money.
You mentioned Corelleware and of any kind of item used everyday it is a gamechanger. I have used Corelleware ever since I lived in my first apartment and won't have any other kind of dishes except for my beautiful china for special occasions. There is nothing that can beat corelleware dishes. My first set was white but through the years I've had different patterns but I juyst love how thin they are and hoiw easy they are to stack and how easy they are to air dry in the dish rack, not to mention how lightweight they are. I consider other everyday dishes and bowls to be boulders and just tpp heavy to deal with. I've been sold on Corelleware for54 years. I'm new to your channel and I know I'n going to learn a lot. Thank you so much. God bless.
Well, I don't buy cheap toys, fix separate meals for my kids, drink soda or bring "free" soaps home from hotels. (They are not "free", somone pays for them. ) Have never even thought of doing laundry every day. Iron? I don't think so! So many clothes are iron free, not necessary. Haven't bought cards in many, many years, unless it is from the dollar store. Can't afford to eat out, so I don't do that. I have never had a subscription to a magazine or newspaper. So, almost halfway through the list, and I already don't do these things. I have ALWAYS shopped at thrift stores. Not that hard to figure these things out, especially when you work very hard for each dollar. Buy bottled water? Never have. My mom carries a HUGE purse, not me. Simple small backpack purse, mostly empty. I only decorate for Christmas. That's it. Dress trendy? Nope. Clothes from thrift stores are not too trendy. Who cares about trends anyways? Throw pillows? Never had them. I haven't paid attention to the news for most of my life. Too negative. Stopped comparing myself to others long ago. They are not me and I am not them. Plus I don't care what anyone thinks of me.
@@ArrowHillCottage What a very kind reply, thank you. Most of my lifestyle comes from necessity- just not having a lot of money for extras. Also from my value system- this life is temporary and has never been about owning a lot of things. Yes, we need to provide for ourselves and be comfortable and not overly stressed about weather we will have enough food/clothing and shelter for coming months and or years. There should also be some life enjoyment activities. Go to the beach or mountains, a hobby- I buy inexpensive fabric from thrift stores and make quilts for friends and anyone that needs one. Helps me continue to give to others. Provide for our children-of course. But they don't always need the newest, latest toys. Also, just keep giving. I have noticed the more I give, literally the more I receive. Either from other people I have given something to, like a quilt or a toy that I made or just listening when someone needs a friend, it all comes back to us when we need something. Lessening the need for us to buy or own material posessions. Try it. Thanks for the video.
Once again I say, you are the most sincere and hardcore minimalist I have come across on YB. Highly celebrated minimalists have decluttering videos every now and then, that makes one wonder how come a minimalist would keep on accumulating stuff so often that needs getting rid of?! But you are different, you are living it to the tee.. 👍👍
Clutter can definitely creep into my life too, especially during a busy season - but we try to stay on top of it on a regular basis so it is never a gigantic issue! ❤️
This was great! I have also found it helpful to assess your bills periodically. I got rid of cable tv and a landline about 15 years ago. I just use the TV apps, but there are many ways to view other channels. If you have a cell phone you do not need a landline. Also, newspapers are very expensive, and it is cheaper to get news online. You may have to pay a small fee for other prescriptions, but it may be $10.00 compared to 200+. We constantly must reassess what companies charge us.
I completely agree with your decision to stop drinking pop. The regular stuff is loaded with sugar, and the zero calorie option is a chemical slough. When I need a drink to go, I'll fill my stainless steel bottle with water from my kitchen tap.
I'd like to try no pillows on couch and bed!!! I dont watch news on daily basis either. Don't turn on TV everyday/night. I like the quiet and to listen to music or read. Enjoyed your 31 list!
I prefer the term essentialist to minimalist. Paring down to what every individual feels is essential in their life makes it less likely that people have to conform to someone else's idea of how to live. All of us can find great suggestions in these videos.
Which would YOU want to try (or maybe avoid) ?!?
AVOID JUNK FOOD, Avoid Doughnuts
You mentioned buying groceries. I have them delivered for a couple of weeks, then I will shop myself so that I can by meat, chicken, etc. I get produce at the Farmer’s Market.
Soda and so many other things that you mentioned.😃🇺🇸.
Soda for good ;) (not drinking much but...none is better! ;)
Yes to the max! I love having clean clear under all the beds. We have a little robot vacuum and nothing stored on the floor helps the robot.
I could pack that space so full! Ha ha! Glad we have both gotten free of that habit! ❤️
I never even thought about robot vacuums!
It's a good idea for airflow under the bed, moisture gets trapped in the mattress overnight.
Yes, things gather under there. Bugs etc!

Thank you so much for the list 😊
I make "care" packages for the homeless with the hotel shampoos; conditioners, lotions, etc. Add a washrag; socks; granola bars, comb/brush to the "care" pkg makes it useful. God bless you and yours.
That’s a great idea! A blessing to others! ❤️
That is so thoughtful, thank you for doing that
May The Lords Bless you and yours and send Help when NEEDED.
Hahahahaha!
How do you guys combat schools passing on expectations about holidays? My son wouldn’t know what to expect if not for them!
I stopped buying decoration of any occasions.
Doesn’t sound weird to me! Seems like a great idea! ❤️
Thanks.
Part of my favorite parts of being in the Army was not figuring out what to wear.
That is a great idea, as are all the tips in the video.😊
I totally agree with you about the news. It bothers my depression and anxiety.
I just don’t understand why it all has to be gloom and doom. Surely there are good things happening in the world! ❤️
As a minimalist, really disliking shopping is a wonderful attitude to develop which saves you sooo much money. I hate shopping malls, even a grocery store frustrates me!! I’m glad I’m like this!
Same! I feel like shopping sucks the life out of me! ❤️
Yes 👏 to quitting News! This has helped me incredibly with focusing on what is essential in my life and with eliminating SO much distraction. Which is ironic, as News claim to be essential. Turns out they hardly ever are...
Very very ironic indeed! ❤️
The news 📰 is mostly negative and frightening
It's all lies and divisiveness anyways. We're not missing anything.
@@eyehatemyjob I completely agree with you
People who don't take in the news won't know what is happening around them.
@olderandwiser78
That's wonderful! 👍
Wonderful tip! It sounds like you have been able to find a very healthy balance in your life! ❤️
Very well done to you
One stand-up comedian said if he went home right now where he grew up the same hand towel would be sitting on the side of the sink in the bathroom.
It sounds like you’ve been very intentional and have crafted a life you love! Wonderful! Thank you for watching! ❤️
For me, not eating out is a no-brainer. Cooking saves me so much money! I also repurpose and recycle. Thrift stores are a great place to shop. The quality is better than new, and the money often goes to charity. Thanks for the video.
Yes, I just can’t get past the cost of eating out. It’s about 5x more expensive for my family to eat out than to eat at home! ❤️
I had no idea that cards were so cheap at the dollar store - a lot of people have mentioned that!! ❤️
See what I mean? Just because something simplified my life doesn’t meet it will work for everyone! ❤️ glad you found a system that works for you!
What????
Are you like me and don’t miss soda even one little bit?!? ❤️
Which was the hardest/easiest to adopt?
Thank you! Especially the “no morning routine”. I am not a morning person and I am constantly made to feel guilty about it.
You’re welcome! I think honestly that the ‘early morning’ has been pushed as the prime through social media…I wonder how many of them actually DO wake up at 5am? Probably some, but maybe a portion of them just do it for the camera. Don’t feel guilty if your optimal time of day is later! ❤️
Still have summer winter clothes wear up I've had them four yrs or more trousers skirts slowly wear up then round the home f cleaning not replacing them till I'm down to the amount I want in my wardrobe evening trousers about three pair I have two leggings black that's about right skirts winter two and dresses two summer skirts. 6dresses as I live in hot climate July August pack away bring them out each yr till can't wear then wear round the home so not wasting anything tops always wear up but only rebuy what I would wear a lot I think more of what I wear daily
Food vegetables buy frozen fresh once fortnight I don't waste money or food
Love all your ideas!!
I do a lot of them. I don’t like anything under the beds, I try not to get trendy clothes . The brain dumb helps my mind to shut off at the end off the day. Also I try not to watch news or listen to things that are super negative and I can’t do anything about it.
Just need to trust God and remember he’s in control❤️❤️
Absolutely! No sense in stressing about things we can’t control! ❤️
Agree 200%
Great tips!! You shared some things I haven’t thought of before.
Simplifying medicines, toiletries, makeup, and cleaning products has been huge for me!
I keep:
Vinegar for mopping, cleaning mirrors and windows, my glasses.
I got rid of ALL paper.
Wow! Great list! ❤️
Cool list.
Wow! If everyone picked even 10 of those to quit, our lives, our society and our earth would improve significantly.
Thanks for the time and thought you put into this!
Thanks for watching! ❤️
i do grocery delivery, it’s a service i deserve, i tip well, this helps someone else be employed, i like that…keeps me out of stores
Great ideas! I am the same way as you at the store…maximum efficiency to get in and out as quickly as possible! ❤️
Those impulse purchases can really add up! Good for you making the positive changes you and your son needed in life! ❤️
Glad to see someone holding true to what resonates w them and is working best. Love when people let go of ideas just bc they’re popular.
I already do most of your habits! It would be great if you would incorporate environmental concerns. E.g. another to buy or take home small toys or other junk: it's almost all plastic! Or using your cloth shopping bags: no plastic for the landfill.
Thanks❤
I love when you said that your kids create the birthday cards for their friends. Such a nice touch!
They are so precious! ❤️

I no longer store items under my bed. No longer watch the news and many more you mentioned. One thing I still hang onto is my paper calendar.
I enjoy my simple life and enjoy hearing about yours! 😊
Thank you! I hope you have a great day! ❤️
Do #31 first. Don't compare yourself to others. Then the other 30 will be easier to do. Great video!
That is absolutely true! ❤️
Wow, Angela, we resemble on so many points you mentioned. The one thing I do differently is I order grocery delivery - simplified my life hugely 😅
I agree on not wearing trendy clothes.
And I agree with you on prioritizing keeping yourself healthy over trying to ‘look good’ ❤️
Doing most of the things in your list! Simple living is so freeing!
It really is freeing indeed! ❤️
Great list! Simplifying can be fun! ❤️
Thanks for watching! ❤️
See, that’s exactly it! Just because something simplified my life doesn’t mean it will for everyone! ❤️
I like having fancy dishes, but I use them for everyday and I don't fret if one breaks. No, I don't keep extra/china sets.
I like every day to be special so, yes, to beautiful dishes.
I love using my china every day. Eating good food from a beautiful dish adds to the nutritional value, I am convinced!
That’s awesome! If it wouldn’t stress me out so much (the worry of my kids breaking a dish) I wouldn’t mind eating off of fancy dishes myself!!❤️
Someday I would like to get a clothes line! Wouldn’t work for me in the winter months…but there is nothing like line dried clothes! ❤️
Great idea to barter services! Love it! ❤️
Great idea! Just because it ‘fits’ doesn’t mean you have to bring it with! ❤️
I cant let go of no 9(no ironing), i actually love ironing and find it very calming and theraputic.weird i know.😅😅😅
I actually can understand that. My therapeutic chore is making the beds! I will never give that up! ❤️
I’m glad to know that I follow almost all from the list. Life is beautiful when it’s simple🙂have a good day💐
I hope you have a wonderful day too! ❤️
Amen to not watching the news! Did that 2 years ago.. after 2 years now I’ve also stopped watching TV almost altogether!… best thing I ever did!
Absolutely freeing! ❤️
It’s not weird! Everyone has their ‘thing’ :)
Awe, thank you! Great job keeping your life as simple as you need it! ❤️
That is a huge gift you are giving your kids! ❤️
Bravo!!! And, do not give up!
I cheer you on... example is the best of teachers!!
And being calmer, happier, financially healthier (because of intentional buying) will go a lonnng way (at inviting your husband to do the same ...
Go! Go! Go!

It's funny when you talked about letting go of haircuts to save money, because in my country (Morocco) it only costs the equivalent of $4 for a haircut along with brushing. 😊
Oh my goodness, haircuts and treatments are so expensive here! Multiply that times seven and it adds up fast! ❤️
A haircut here where i am costs $40+ tip! I cut my own hair and my husbands and kids hair. I do get my hair colored professionally though, i feel like its one of the few things i do for myself as a mom of 7 that makes me feel good!!
Wow, that's incredible! Here there is no tip, you just pay the haircut.
I cut our families hair for 37 years and I still cut husbands hair. Our adult son received a nice expensive cut and one cheaper cut that was awful. He decided a good ✂️ and free was better, and gets one right after dad...lol.
Great tips! I do a lot of these already. Decluttering has helped me in so many ways!
Wonderful! ❤️
I bless you for imparting the art of simplicity and frugal living
I think I had almost 70 couch pillows too! 😂 thanks for watching! ❤️
Yay! Choose the things you love and you definitely won’t miss the rest! ❤️
Great job! ❤️
Great video!
•
I stop watching TV about 15 years ago, only have 1 TV in our home and my only social media is YT. No regrets.
•
I agree with most of your list, my exceptions:
1. Haircuts- I have thick curly hair and need this mane kept in check😄
2. Ironing- I iron EVERYTHING, including t-shirts. Therapeutic [crazy, I know]
3. Bags- we keep all bags in a 3 sectional bin in the laundry/ mud area: paper, plastic and reusable.
Hey, no judgement from me on the ironing therapy! I feel like bed making is mine! I love it! Ha ha! ❤️
That sounds like a great system! ❤️
Girl before you even mentioned Corelle plates, I was already thinking that 😂 I grew up witg them but my family had a design on it. Once I became an adult and was able to get my own dishes, I bought everything Corelle in winter frost, NO patterns 😂
Ha ha! ❤️
I’ll have to look into that filtering system. Thanks! ❤️
I’m seriously considering testing out the online shopping very soon! ❤️
@davidgreg511 Get lost 😡
I promise that they DO know how to fold clothes ❤️
I’m thinking I will be ready for an even smaller bag soon! A crossbody style is a great idea! ❤️

It was around that time that I realized just how much the news was draining me, and decided to stop! So much happier now! ❤️
Yes, I do still keep some of those bags because they are handy…I just don’t need a million! Maybe I should send them your way! Ha ha! ❤️
Thanks.
Sometimes the requests really do feel like manipulation, I agree! Great job standing firm when your answer is no- and not what people want to hear! ❤️
PS Buy Nothing has been great especially when donating items.
Blessings on your journey!! ❤️
Yes! I don’t miss dryer sheets at all either! Thanks for watching! ❤️
I already do alot of these. I think my favorite is the small purse which makes going around easier. I also don't decorate alot. Nice video.
When I first made the switch to a smaller purse I was shocked to realize I could fit in everything I needed! ❤️
Oh that’s a bummer! Hopefully the pick up option will work for you just as well! ❤️
Oh that’s very interesting about the produce! ❤️
The bags can pile up so fast if we let them!!! Ha! Thanks for watching! ❤️
Love the way you fold for drawers I do the same makes much easier especially T shirts and pjs. Keeping drawers neat I love.
It is very helpful to fold that way, yes! ❤️
When I was growing up, we ate together as a family at the dinner table. If we didn't like what mom made, we went hungry.
Same. I don’t know why I thought I should cater to my kids when they were little! I think I worried they wouldn’t grow if I didn’t feed them. Now my oldest boys are taller than me! ❤️
Definitely try grocery delivery. I have had this mostly weekly for over 14 years. Saves a lot of time, energy, travel costs.
I might just try it to see what I think. ❤️
You are singing my song. I have managed this way for many years. As the kids have gone on to their own way, I have gotten worse…. I need to get back to streamlining things again. I just subscribed. Thank you!
Blessings on your journey of streamlining and simplifying! I know the reward will be well worth the effort! ❤️
We are twins, I do almost everything you mentioned. The only thing I still hang on to is I like paper calendars. My two favorites you mentioned that make my life easier is giving up cola, and do not store anything under my bed.
Yay! ❤️
yes, yes, yes!
Thanks for watching! ❤️
Awesome! Thanks for watching! ❤️
Great tips - I haven’t ironed for years. If I need to flatten like the front of a shirt placket I put on the bed with a heavy book on it. I move slow in the morning too . I am going to check my extra kitchen appliances or utensils to make more room.
I do think that fabrics now are a lot more wrinkle resistant…which is nice! ❤️
I bought light weight clothes so that I can hand wash all.laundry daily. If the weather is colder we wear more layers so that we can hand-wash everything easily I hang everything on hangers to air-dry I use hand towels instead of bath towels possibly once every 6 weeks I might run the washing machine
Oh wow! ❤️
Great tips!
Ha ha! It was meant to be! ❤️
Good idea 💡 about organizing clothing in drawers folded and neatly. For socks and underwear too.
Great 💡 kids to make greeting cards / birthday cards for their friends...
Have a blessed Summer
Thank you! I hope you have a wonderful summer also! ❤️
I cant cut my own hair…it is a wild mess that needs a professional touch.
1) I don’t buy soda or juice only seltzer water
2) I only buy plain yogurt and add fruit, granola to sweeten
3) I avoid buying take out
4) I don’t buy cosmetics/skin care just to get the gift with purchase bonus buys
5) I don’t buy trinket type souvenirs when I travel
6) I limit junk food and processed foods
7) I limit my fancy coffee runs
8) I plan my menu based on what is on sale
9) I mix and match my clothes and accessorize to create my own trends/chic look
10) I don’t buy things to keep up or impress others
11) I don’t eat breakfast since doing Intermittent fasting
12) I make my own cards or send email greetings with personalized digital content
13) I don’t give gifts to people over 18. I take them out for a nice meal instead.
14) I refrain from buying things just because it is on sale or because it looks cute/nice
15) I refrain from buying too much groceries as I have a tendency to want ingredients handy but end up throwing out a lot because I get too busy to cook them
16) I gave up cable tv
17) I don’t buy books any more. I borrow ebooks from the library
18) I don’t buy plain bottled water. I just use Brita and stainless steel Swell bottles
19) I wear minimal makeup
20) I gave up contacts and just wear my glasses
Great list! Simplifying can be so freeing! ❤️
The debt one is a good one! We became consumer debt free (we still have a mortgage) about 4 years ago and it has really simplified our lives! ❤️
Thank you for a careful and considered outline/narrative on simplifying 'ones' life. Your video is a good coach for putting a chaotic life in order. 💪👍😉
I’m glad it was helpful! ❤️
I used to store things under the bed too ! Now I just keep it clear for the vacuum , and it's so much simpler. 😊
I swear that when I kept things under there they would collect so much dust and yuck! ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottage 😆
I would encourage you to investigate the carnivore diet (proper human diet). Once acclimated, it is simple to cook and simple to shop. Most of your shelf space and pots and pans are for cooking veggies. It is healthy and will allow you to eliminate meds, creams, supplements, and doctor visits.
I’ve never heard of it! I will check it out. Thanks! ❤️
That’s very unhealthy. Humans were designed to eat plants.
YES! Best thing ever!
So true! I love thrifting things that I need! ❤️
Dang this is my exact brand of minimalism! I’m so happy I was recommended to watch your video 😘
Yay! So glad you found the channel! ❤️
God bless.
They are SO much easier to manage! I look back and feel shocked at the heavy stacks I used to deal with! ❤️
I would love to hear some of your tips Paula! It sounds like you have a beautiful, simple life! ❤️
I do the little ironing we have & laundry & folding. And have always only did it once a week.
Yes! It’s a constant reassessing! ❤️
I cha fed my insurance company a few years back and save almost $2000 a year.
Great tips, and ideas, I would spend less time on social media, and spend more time, outside enjoying nature.
Yes! For sure that is a great life simplifier! And being outside has so many benefits! ❤️
I completely agree with your decision to stop drinking pop. The regular stuff is loaded with sugar, and the zero calorie option is a chemical slough. When I need a drink to go, I'll fill my stainless steel bottle with water from my kitchen tap.
I stopped drinking sodas since 2019.
It’s been over 25 years for me and I don’t even think about it as an option anymore! Water all day every day! ❤️
Love your videos. Would love to see your list of meals in your family meal rotation.
Yeah me too x
If you click on the meal plan video in the video description, I have links to all the meals, plus recipes, plus grocery lists linked in that video! ❤️
I'd like to try no pillows on couch and bed!!! I dont watch news on daily basis either. Don't turn on TV everyday/night. I like the quiet and to listen to music or read. Enjoyed your 31 list!
Thank you! I don’t think I could go fully without pillows on the couch or bed, but reducing the number of them has been helpful! ❤️
Loved your list! I would love to say I'm a minimalist but sadly I'm not. However I'm going to implement some more of these!
Thanks for watching! Blessings on your journey of simplicity! ❤️
I prefer the term essentialist to minimalist.
Paring down to what every individual feels is essential in their life makes it less likely that people have to conform to someone else's idea of how to live.
All of us can find great suggestions in these videos.
