As a fan of Betrayal At House On The Hill this looks like a game I'm going to keep an eye out for. It looks pretty great, taking the things I like about Betrayal and removing a lot of the fiddly bits that keep me from getting it out more often. I think this looks very promising and I wish I had money to spend on Kickstarters right now.
The Exploring Mechanic is Similar to Betrayal.. however there's always story in our game... also we have traps, and all sorts of various rooms.... but that's exploring... Searching is different... after a room is Explored, you may then search it for an additional action on your next turn. Then you draw a search card and you may find an item... or monster... or something else!!! This all depends on the Danger Level of the Room Tile you're in! Green= Good Yellow= Medium Good Red=Bad (Red is Bad ... however you might find a Powerful artifact!!!) !!! :)
Christopher Batarlis Well, yeah I guess ("searching is different"). But in Betrayal, you are exploring rooms in much the same way (revealing tiles from 3 levels). And in many of those rooms there are event, item, or omen cards that are revealed as the result of "searching" the room - so there really are similarities. I do agree, based on watching Tom's review, that there does seem to be more of a constant narrative to the game while exploring - in Betrayal, the first "half" of the game is just walking around and picking up items until the "haunt" happens, which is when most of the narrative occurs. I do like the looks of the game and wish you much success with it's sales. :-)
J Young Thanks Very Much! There are absolutely some similarities!!! Betrayal and Arkham are some of our Big inspirations for sure! :) And of course... some of my favorite games... However, the Tomb also has some other levels... there's an expansion 4th level is the Atlantis Level... And Much much more! :) Thanks for the Kind Words! Hope you get to play someday! Chris
Yes indeed... has some Pulp Action Adventure similarities... however, whereas Fortune and Glory is a Zoomed-Out world wide version... SotLT is more Zoomed In and actually IN the Tomb with a deep and detailed storyline as well! :)
Very strange vibe for me from this preview - I like the search mechanism, and I like how easy this should be to teach considering that we've seen basically every other aspect of the game elsewhere, though while I like the replayability random goals for missions should give, "Defeat X monsters and explore Y rooms on these particular floors" feels a bit too abstracted for a game that should be dripping in theme to me. Overall, based on this preview, this seems like a game that I should be all over, but something about just isn't coming together for me here and I can't quite place what. I want to see this get to general retail because I want this to be a game I like playing, but I don't personally feel able to back this due to that vibe I'm getting from it, and I wish it was one I could articulate here rather than an undefined overall downer so that Christopher Batarlis could quash it. (The only articulatable thing I'm bothered by is play relevent information on both sides of the character sheet where you might need both at once - I seriously hope that's just a prototype thing)
Hey Gizensha! Yes indeed I see what you mean (weird vibe and all) lol... I dont know why either... I recommend watching the Undead Viking Review of the game... Much Longer Review... but better Vibe... Anyway... To help with your questions about the Character Sheets (yes the personal missions on back will transition to Separate Cards so that will not be a factor) The Objectives seem ambiguous.. however, beneath them is the Storyline and the True Objective Conditions that are what "Drip with Theme" ;) It's just something that Tom decided not to go into.... Thanks for the question! :) If you have more Please dont be afraid to ask! ---Chris
This game looks like a relic of the past, like the kind of thing Flying Frog would produce. We, as gamers live in an exciting period, where more and more designers are marrying cool and immersive theming (which so many eurogames have in the past been missing) to the innovative and brilliant mechanics (which so many american style games in the past have been lacking) and producing games that are both deep, thematic, and mechanically clever. Much respect to the designer, and congrats on meeting the kickstarter goal, but in my opinion, this one should have been left in the tomb.
Seen it on kickstarter. Looks great but they are asking alot off money for the game itself i know its all about backing the project but it seems alot of money (cheapest is 85 dollars to ship oversees). Im not sure miniatures are included.
Yes indeed! The game will come with Minis when we hit the 70K stretch Goal!!! the pricing may seem high for the game... but it comes with TONS of stuff and it's priced under MSRP! :) It's a pretty heavy because of all that stuff so it certainly has that extra shipping cost. Sorry about that... it would have a lot been more if we weren't using International Fulfillment... also we're EU Friendly so the VAT is included too! :) hope that helps!
I had zero interest in this game till I saw Tom's preview. Now I see it's a rip off...err...love child of Arkham Horror and Betrayal at House on the Hill. I totally want to play this game. Unfortunately, it's highly over priced. This appears to be yet another Kickstarter where the publisher is using KS like a store to sell to consumers at full retail price bypassing the distributors and retailers instead of treating backers like investors who are helping to get this product on store shelves. KS backers should be paying what distributors pay (plus shipping), but that is rarely ever the case. If this game isn't a KS only distributed game and actually gets retail distribution, I'm quite sure I can pick it up for much less than these prices. I'll also have the luxury of hearing reviews of whether the game is actually good or not.

The searching room mechanism is something you've not seen before? Isn't it just like Betrayal at House on the Hill?

The Kickstarter has reached the stretch Goal for Character Minis, so every copy of the game now has Minis for the adventurers.
Love the theme. I hope the final version uses a better font and that they get rid of this awful cardboard in the stand characters.
So, basically it's Arkham Horror - Betrayal at House on the Hill combined?... I don't know.
lol.... what don't you know? :P
Looks really interesting.
This looks very similar to Fortune and Glory, both thematically and mechanically, just on a smaller scale.

Lol So you like it but dont like it? Lol...
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the game is pretty pricey. Looks like a fun game though...
55-60 bucks for base game includes Miniature characters in the base game!
