    Thank You So Much for The Shout out Roy!!
    I truly Love the Model Railroad Hobby in which we are all Engaged in, We all learn along the way as we build.
    The best part of the Hobby to Me is You get to Apply and learn Multiple Trades like Carpentry (Bench work) / Electrical - Painting and out right Artistry work.
    I love to go down in my train room at night and just think of whats Next to do.
    Meeting Great Guys like you along the way makes it even Better.
    Conrail's now gone but still in my Heart (I Remember the total Rebuild of the tracks at the end of Oread Street Worcester Mass when they took over).
    Peace to all of your Viewers.

    Actually it’s Chuck. Barb is the CEO. I started replacing plastic wheels with metal wheels and discovered Atlas axels are longer than the other cars I have. The really strange thing is only one truck and one axel seem to have the problem. I have started replacing the “bad” trucks with new Atlas trucks and Atlas metal wheels. In all fairness, most of these cars have been stored for almost 20 years..

    Roy, Glad you asked that question. It is always nice to hear "How Realistic it looks", "How large the layout is", "How detailed it is","How much work we put into it", and that kind of stuff.
    But by far the thing that makes me feel the best and proudest is not a direct complement at all.
    But when a visitor looks at a scene I created and says something like... "Oh, That's cool. That reminds me of where my Grandma lived. I remember as a kid we would..... "
    What I built reminded someone of another time and place in there life. And that makes me feel all warm inside. :)

      There should be more replies. I was trying to come up with something that would make me happy. You absolutely nailed it! If someone looked at my layout and said it made them forget the crazy world and all their troubles and took them to a place where they felt joy and serenity, it would be the greatest compliment I could ever receive. The layout isn't about me, it's about the happiness other people might be feeling when they look at it. Now that you say it, I realize why I'm getting back into the hobby at 60. It's contemplative, creative, soulful, and kind. Bless you for helping me to realize why - because it brings it all home.

    Greetings and Salutations Roy fantastic video as always my friend many have said they like my realism and attention to detail and ease of operation and I'm happy with that I truly love this hobby and for other model railroaders and other non modelers to recognize that makes me feel proud especially the younger generations who have ran the railroad and helped me with scenery I'm not a rivet counter... N scale just doesn't need it for the effect of realism and I'm from the good enuff regular guy angle... if I cant see it clearly then is it really needed ? I'm looking forward to dispatch this Saturday and thanks for sharing the world's greatest hobby with us from Panama City Panama God bless to you and yours

    Thanks Roy! That's quite a sea of blue on Andy's Layout. Just think how much more he could do with that space if he went with n scale. My layout which is rather small, is on hiatus at the moment, but if a visitor were to stop by I guess whimsical works best to describe the theme of my layout. A fictional location of things that are fun.

    Great video! The argument over wheels has been over drawn for decades and I think stems back to the 60's/70's plastic wheel toy sets. Plastic is a horrible and obvious bad choice for many reasons the least of which is Prototypical. If you ever see a full size freight train hauling down the rails on plastic wheels, run like Hell! Plastic can be tricky for many people as they think if it's stiff it's not flexing but it is, not only that but it streaks and mars the rails with heated oily residue (It is a Petroleum product in case you missed that day in school back in 3rd grade) and that residue will bind to and build up on the metal wheels of your Loco's and other rolling stock over time and generate a nightmare amount of time to clean. Eat the cost and grab a Micromark wheel tuner if your trucks are plastic and get metal wheels and call it done, and if the rolling stock you are buying comes with plastic wheels either stop buying them or add to the cost and get metal wheels for them or buy a higher quality item and it's done for you. I build many Accurail rolling stock models and put the Kadee metal wheels in the plastic trucks and they work beautifully, even saved a ton of rare Tyco, Lifelike and Bachamnn stock with metal wheels (I love the old Logo cars like Bubble Yum, Dorito's and such).
    P.S Metal wheel sets allow you to easily add pickups to your cars for lighting and other fun stuff so there's that too ;)

    Whilst exhibiting at a show with my layout Armathwite, a true copy of the real location, I watched a man stood by the layout motionless. I ducked under the layout and went to talk to him. He said he had no show guide and had only gotten as far as the corner of the 15 foot layout, but he knew where it was, as he remembered sitting on a parapet when he was a boy...this is Armathwaite he said. Never have I received such a complement from anyone and my co-builder was equally impressed. We chatted for an hour or more. He could not fault what we had built but was keen to point out the odd bits we had missed. The best part of modelling is a genuine comment!

However, it is forums like yours here that give me the opportunity to show where I'm up to with progress on my layout as any feedback is always beneficial when it is given. As always a great video Roy. Well only two people have ever paid me a visit in my train room. My son and my wife. When I asked my son he said cramped and my
    wife thinks its neat. So as I always say it only has to please me.

    I've only had two visitors to my layout, and one had come to the UK from Western Canada. His memorable comment was how much bigger it was compared to seeing it in my videos!

    Hi Roy, This weeks question of the week was a tough one for me. My entire life I've heard people make fun of the hobby, I'd image you've heard some of the same negative comments made about people involved in the hobby. So for me, any positive statement made about my layout and / or the hobby in general would fit the bill in my opinion. Another great episode Roy and I'm looking forward to next weeks Dispatch. Cheers, Rich S.

    Since what we have to live on just plummeted by over $100 a month, I seriously doubt there will be a layout even started now for nice things to be said about it.

    For TQOTW...No one has come to visit my layout (I've never had one finished), but I can tell you what I have said at the two layout that I personally have visited: WOW! Oh, and I'd like to mention Laura Elizabeth's photos on the FB page. I don't know if she's ever been to the states, but she does some awesome work on her layout. Oh, and I don't know what I like better, Andy's layout or his gorgeous dog.

    How do know what the axel size is on freight cars ?

    • @n-scaleunionpacificevansto6569
      @n-scaleunionpacificevansto6569  3 роки тому +1

      Rich, I'm going to talk about that in my next video. The axel length depends on who manufactured the car/or trucks on thr car. For example, I know that the axel length for my Micro Trains trucks is .540 inches. Check here, for example: www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/fox-valley-models-axle-lengths.48882/

      Im slowly putting micro trains trucks and exact metal wheel sets. My layout is small i can run 30 cars max . 7 track freight yard guess its ok.

    Hey Roy, great edition of dispatch. As for the question, I would want to hear how nice the overall layout is. I agree that people who visit mine would not be into the hobby as well as me. Thanks for sharing. Ken

      Hi Roy,
      Most of the visitors to my layout are of the toy train mindset so they admire the scenery more than the trains on my switching layout,

    All those who have visited are non rr modelers meaning none of them are in the hobby. That being said is that unless one is involved in the hobby one would have no way of knowing what is involved in getting the layout to the present status No idea about bench work/wiring/sub structure for mountains etc. let alone the cost of everything. So for me I love it when the wow factor is observed. People come and are amazed at the scenery . That always makes me feel good

    I like the look of plastic but metal are more reliable , that's just me though

  • @kenshores9900
    @kenshores9900 4 роки тому

    Roy: Why is it that Micro Trains uses plastic wheels on their rolling stock. Their cars are well made and not inexpensive. I personally haven’t paid much attention to it. I am more concerned about the couplers and changing them out. That’s not cheap either. Passenger cars are even worse. I have wheeled and sealed on eBay and now lots of Ravorossi passenger cars with Rapido couplers. But that is another subject. Good topic. I try to go what looks prototypical. But if it is a car I want I buy it any way.

      Hi Ken! i, too, would like to know why Micro-Trains doesn't just go ahead and start putting putting metal wheels on its rolling stock. It would save me the nuisance of having to swap out the wheels on my MT cars. By the way, I would also like to know Kato doesn't sell its locomotives with MT couplers. I love Kato locomotives, but their crappy couplers gotta go. ...Roy
