Your high school content has been SO helpful to me. Thank you!!
Thanks so much! 💕
Thank you for these insights! I have a 7th grader this year so I have been doing some future planning for high school this weekend. Your advice is always so thoughtful and helpful!
Thank you! Happy planning! 💕
I appreciate you sharing! Please more content. Easy to listen and realistic!🙏💕
Always learn something new! Thank you!
💕💕💕
Very interesting Q & A video Colleen. You listened to your children. They are very blessed. ❤️
Thank you, friend! I always appreciate your encouragement! 💕
So so helpful Colleen! Thank you!! 🌺
Thank you! 💕 I hope I got all of your questions. I know you sent me some separately but I couldn’t find them. I saw that you responded on IG too so I was hoping I got them!
Yes you did!! Big help, thank you!!
Thank you soooo much for these detailed videos on homeschooling in high school. I have such a hard time finding these kinds of details usually on other UA-cam videos and websites.
Thanks! I’m glad it helped! 💕
Another great video! Any chance you could share the resources you used for Apologetics? Many thanks! 😊
We mostly used the Bible but we also used these: a.co/cDbnwOa
Excellent advice . What exact apologetics resources did you use in the middle school years ( or high school)?
Mainly the Bible. We also like Masterbooks American History, which had a section at the end in culture. We also used How Should We Then Live by Francis Schaeffer.
I can't agree with you more on how many homeschool videos can be overwhelming. I started to realize this after years of watching probably thousands of videos (I started even before I was pregnant with my first grader). I feel like the homeschool community is full of overthinkers and over-achievers. Most of it could be from a desire to give their kids "the best" but a lot of it is likely due to wanting to compete with others and/or a lack of clarity in their purpose/goals for homeschooling.
Hi, what would you recommend for geometry in highschool?
We used Shormann Algebra and upon completion of 1&2, you get credit for geometry. Geometry is integrated into those courses. If I were going to do it separately, I’d look at Abeka.
@@simplejoyfilledlivingthank you, for you reply.
But does TGTB teach writing as in how to build a thesis etc, structure and everything needed to write an essay?
Yes, in detail in the high school language arts curriculum. We didn’t use the lower levels so I don’t know about those.
Does Katie have an actual diploma from the accountability group or from you as the administrator of your homeschool?
They issued the diploma, and the parents sign it.
What do you use for math?
We used Shormann for math and science. Diveintomath.com
SCAIHS should hire you. 💕
I truly LOVE SCAIHS! Beth Martin was an incredible help to me. And seriously, I started talking to her about high school at the end of Katie’s 4th grade year!
Would you say that Katie learns easily or that studying/classes just come a bit easier for her? She seems like hard worker but also a naturally smart kiddo. I'm not sure if that is a good assessment of her though. I heard that shormann math is definitely harder and I worry if I put my kid in it he wouldn't do well because math isn't his thing.
Katie learns easily with anything related to math/science/logic, but not necessarily every subject. She is definitely a hard worker. With Shormann, I have definitely had some parents tell me it was too hard for their non-math loving kids. However, I don’t know if it was really too hard or if the math they had used prior hadn’t adequately prepared them. I believe you can do a 1-2 week trial with Shormann.. That could be a good way to test it out and then let your student give you some feedback.
I found it interesting that in our state we have no regulations on homeschools and they don't allow HS credits in 8th grade for public school... since they don't regulate my homeschool I can do whatever I want in my home ;) I'm thankful for a low/no regulation state.
I’m sure it makes it so much easier! Just make sure that colleges in your area will accept high school credits earned in middle school if you go that route.
@@simplejoyfilledliving Yes, I spoke to the one that I attended and she said they didn't care how they got their credits.
@@JuliaCantley that’s great for you! Best of both worlds then since you can do exactly what you want!
Should dual classes be core classes or electives?
Either works. We did both. Katie did math and English both semesters her senior year but she also did French and Music. The main thing is if you can’t take them where you intend to apply for college, make sure they will transfer.
@@simplejoyfilledliving thanks. How do you know which Math they will need in college? Do they all need college Algebra or something?
@@favored4life that depends on your state requirements for high school graduation and college admissions requirements where your student will attend. If they don’t have the classes required for college admissions, sometimes they will still be admitted but will required to take remedial math classes. Generally the minimum is Algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, and often pre-calculus is required or highly preferred. College algebra is very similar to pre-calculus.
@@simplejoyfilledliving What state are you in??
@@FLMegan SC
We won’t use secular curriculum but in our state scripture is a requirement for the HSC unless you opt out but we discuss our beliefs!!! I love the teenage years but I see that they are becoming adults!!!
The teen years are such a special time!
