prolly a dozen years ago i bought a metal detector to go use along the beach here. I found coins, modern not ancient, keys, and a nice silver necklace, but one day i got up early and looked out at the beach and seen like 5 ppl walking along with metal detectors, the sun hadnt even came up yet, lol. by the time i would get to the beach it was picked over. but it has been used to find lost jewelry family members dropped in their yards. but to find pieces of history, blows my mind ,,so interesting!

@@grifce Hey there my friend! Yes it’s all gone except for the park property. I had permissions on 4 or 5 different properties years ago and they were eventually all sold off and developed. It was a big part of Atlanta’s history just buried under concrete. You take care and I appreciate your cool story. 🙂👏👏
Cool finds and thanks for sharing! I’m from Grayson in Gwinnett County and it’s sad that so much of our history here in Georgia, that’s covered over with asphalt, concrete or a house! I found a Civil War era pistol 3 ring bullet near an old copper mine cave outsider of Cleveland! The bullet was laying on a trail, overlooking the Chestatee River and most likely uncovered by a rain! Keep the videos coming, I enjoyed seeing each find! Thanks, Greg
@@gregchatham3890 Hey Greg! I sure appreciate ya watching brother. Yep it’s sad to see all those beautiful places being paved over. It won’t be long before ya can’t find any woods anymore. Great job on spotting the three ringer! Thanks again and have a nice week 🙂🇺🇸🔥🔥👍
in the mid 50's and through the 60;s, my family lived on Ridgewood Rd. in NW Atlanta. I could walk out our back door and in just a short walk would be at the Chattahoochee River. There several indentations on the hillsides behind our house. Digging around in one, I found a cannon ball one day. It's about the size of a softball and it had an indentation on it. Not knowing what it was and out of curiosity, I took my pocket knife and started scratching out that spot.. I poured out a powder that was black. I still have that cannonball right here beside me as I write this. I've been told that I was very lucky not just as a find but that I didn't create a spark digging the plug out.
Hey Doug! Man I love hearing personal stories like yours. It’s amazing how many rounds were shot into Atlanta during the siege. And with the three major battles in your area there is probably many more out there. Did the cannonball have a brass fuse in it or just a plug? It very well could have been Confederate. Either way it is a heck of a find for ya. I’m glad you have a great piece of history and you hung on to it. Take care brother 🙂🔥🔥👍
I live in N.E Decatur . I found a civil war musket in the woods behind my house in 1969 . The butt of the riffle was sticking out of the ground down to the trigger .
Hey buddy! Oh my goodness lol. I probably would have fainted 😂 I’ve found a lot of pieces of muskets but never a complete one. That is so cool. Decatur saw a lot of action in the Atlanta campaign. Congratulations my friend and I sure appreciate you watching and the neat comments 😊🔥👏👏
@@GeorgiaTrappingandFishing I was with the neighbors 2 sons . We were 7 and 8 years old . We Ran into their mothers house with it and were all like "Wow !" "look what we found . Our parents confirmed it was a civil war musket . We were all pretty excited .
I grew up on the corner of Forrest Rd and Linwood Ave back in the '50s. This was hilley land and breast works during the war. After a good rain, the ground was sprouting bullets. Once I found a dozen of those cleaning bullets with the zinc plug.We speculated that the plug was to expand the bullet into rifeling for a better gas seal. I took one to the Kennesaw battlefield where a ranger told me what I had. Across the street a judge owned about 3 AC of land and all sorts of things were found there: spurs, belt buckles, sword scabbards, etc. That was my childhood.
Hey Embry! That is so cool. I always loved that area. My sister and her husband lived on Montrose right near there. You’re right it was really hilly there lol. You were blessed to live in a beautiful area back then. They had a big dirt crawl space in there basement and a large yard. I wish I had been detecting back then. Thanks for commenting and sharing a great story. I always enjoy it. 😊👏👏👏
@@desertweasel6965 that’s awesome! There were a lot of group movements all through that area before the battle of Jonesboro. The Calvary probably moved through there regularly during the March to the sea. I appreciate ya commenting 🙂🔥👍
@@GeorgiaTrappingandFishing I used to be so fascinated with local civil war stuff. Right at the end of stage coach rd and anvil block road there was a big Union encampment. I actually was able to find remnants of it as you reach the end of Stagecoach. There was also a little house that is still there at the intersection of boldercrest Rd and panthersville Rd. The woman that lived there allowed high ranking officers to stay there and around the property.
I found a civil war bullet once at the gravel parking lot at the cyclorama in the late 1970’s. Always wondered what it was, now I know thanks to you, a Williams Cleaner Bullet. Many thanks.
Hey buddy! That’s awesome. I knew some guys who grew up around Grant park in the 60s and they were always finding bullets in their yards. Best of luck and I hope you find many more 🙂👍👏👏

Thanks for taking time to watch John. Most of the trenches are gone now or have been dumped in for years. It’s getting tough to hunt them. Thanks buddy 🙂🔥👍👍
I grew up in the Marietta area, and spent most of my time hiking in the woods. Although " progress" :( has ruined most of my finds I still know of a few places I could turn you onto. Suspected trenches & fox holes, pits. I now live between Kennesaw Mtn & close to RUff's Mill. Drop me a note and I'll turn you on to them. I used to metal detect, but I'm just too old and beat up now to spend days digging up barbed wire & pop tops.

Hey Harold! I sure appreciate ya watching brother. It getting so developed now in Atlanta there just isn’t many places left. I hunted up in Dalton a couple of years ago. My father's maternal grandfather was with the Federal Army, the 8th Kansas Volunteer Infantry, enlisting in March 1864. Of just over 1000 of his unit, he was only one of a few handful who survived. He was part of the siege of Atlanta.
@@kilcar what a fantastic family history! I sure appreciate you sharing it with me. It was hard on both side’s during the Atlanta campaign. Awesome finds brother. We’ve been out detecting around here before and all we found was junk but there’s not as much history that happened in this area. Mostly just old farms. Sorry I missed this when you posted it. We’ve been having our fun with Covid here. Too bad they’re developing so many historic places. Soon there will be no evidence they ever existed. Sad.
Hey there Don👋 Man I sure hate to hear y’all have been sick, Stoney caught it this week on a business trip. I’ve been trying to stay in the woods lol. I bet you find some cool farm relics there, I love finding that stuff. Everything is disappearing here under concrete and steel. They know what happened in these areas so I think it’s by design that it gets developed and everything is erased. I hate it too. 🙄 I hope y’all get better soon buddy 😊🇺🇸🔥👍👍
My great grandfather had a farm in Riverdale, Evans Farm, there is a history marker there, the house is still standing. When he came home after the war he had to carry wheel barrow loads of what he called “shot,” battlefield material, from his field so he could plant crops. He dumped the “shot” into a ditch near his field, From what I’ve heard it was a lot of battlefield material. If no one has found that ditch there is most likely thousands of dollars of relics there for someone to find.
Hey there! Man that is awesome. I have an old friend who grew up there on Evans farm. I believe he still lives on that road. @@GeorgiaTrappingandFishing The original house was still there when I last saw it, I believe there were some additions to it. That is amazing that you knew someone that grew up there! When the war ended my great grandfather came home and I was told he brought his Confederate Calvary saber. I wish it was still in the family, probably wasn’t valued much. The Union troops that camped on the farm broke my great grandmother’s china, ate all their farm animals, but at least they didn’t harm her or her children.

We had seven acres and on the back side of the property there were trenches dug for probably five hundred feet facing north to the Chattahoochee River. They were usually full of water but when I got older I realized they were for soldiers trying to defend Atlanta near the end of the war. I live in the north now and metal detect around old swimming holes and rivers.

@@GeorgiaTrappingandFishing It must have been a plug because. I didn't have any trouble digging it out with a with a small pocket knife..

Hey buddy, I appreciate you taking time to watch. The one near Red Oak has been bulldozed since the video. One is off Fulton Industrial at the river. I hope this helps ya 🙂👍👍🔥
Can you tell me where on Fulton Industrial?
I can’t figure out where along Fulton Industrial this site is. Can you help?
@@kinheyward it’s on the river at Lagrange blvd. it’s a long walk but if you park in one of the warehouses when you turn on Lagrange blvd. go toward the river you should find it
Many thanks, Craig
That would be fun to do one day.
Hey brother! It is, it keeps me in the woods till trapping season starts too lol. I appreciate ya watchin 😊🇺🇸🔥🔥👍
We’re you off of powers ferry? I’m in Jonesboro
Hey Ralph! No Ive never hunted that area before. Most of those places were inside Atlanta. Best of luck over in Jonesboro 🙂👍👏👏
Cool stuff
Hey Mark! Thanks buddy, maybe one of these days I’ll dig up a cannon 😂😂👍🔥🇺🇸
7:55 nice cuff bottom. I see an eagle on there
Hey brother! Yes it turned out to be a great seal, I imagine WW2. Still a neat find for me. I like digging any era stuff lol. I sure appreciate ya watching and look forward to watching some of your videos this afternoon. Best of luck 😊🔥👍👍
Awesome
Hey there Paul 😊👋 I sure appreciate it buddy. I bet you’re enjoying these extra days of warm weather lol 😁👍👍🇺🇸🔥
That is a .22 blank cartridge. Not a percussion cap.
@@firestorm8471 I’ll be , I appreciate ya letting me know. Some of this stuff I get wrong 🙂👌👌
They have turned the Spanish Fort battlefield into a series of strip malls and subdivisions too. It’s just east of Mobile. I’m fortunate that I got to see and hunt it before greed obliterated it.
That always makes my blood boil when I hear these stories. We are the only country that doesn’t preserve our past history. I appreciate ya letting me know, money is King to all these people. I sure am glad you were able to see it and hunt it before it was all under concrete. Thanks again 🙂🇺🇸🔥👍👍
It looks like a M1 carbine bullet.
Hey John! I sure appreciate it buddy. I wasn’t sure, I don’t think I’d come across one like that. It usually takes some great subscribers to figure it out for me lol. Thanks again 🙂🔥👍🙂
Lots of stuff for the pot nothing wrong with that!
Right on brother! I’ll take modern bullets anytime. It’s ALL treasure to me 😁👌 I appreciate it Scotsman 🙂👊👊🇺🇸🔥
Craig ❤

Hey Raymond! 😊👋 I sure appreciate it brother, I hope y’all are doin good and are having mild weather so far! 🔥🔥👍
This beautiful area should be left alone. To many places are being destroy.
Thanks so much for taking time to watch! Yes I agree, I wish they would preserve all these historic sites but there is too much money to be made for them. Maybe a few will survive 🙂🔥👏👏
I hope you GPS these finds; otherwise, its theft of history.
Roger that. I always mark my finds and catalog em so I can go back if need be 🙂👌👍👍
