Exactly why I love this vid so much... those two, Trucks and the bass player (?name) they are both in awe, watch them look at each other as if to say "that is OMG... Johnny Winter sitting there playing slide and we are here on stage with him... can you believe IT...!?!" -- RIP Johnny
He still is the best slide guitar player ever! Just ask Derek Trucks! I had the pleasure to see Johnny 7 times in my life with some of the best blues men of all times! Muddy Waters, Pine top Perkins, James Cotton, Junior Wells, Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer to name a few. Johnny is my all time favorite blues guitar player! I'll see him in Burlington Vermont on the 28th! Legend!!!
Hanging a signed T shirt after he passed, standing back admiring his signature He comes on the radio WXRT singing Highway 61 revisited . Also he died on my Birthday ! R.I.P. my Brother !!!!!!!

We will miss you. You were absolutely incredible! I never heard you make a mistake. Every time I saw you...after the show...I said to myself..."Wow...how can a guitar player be that good?"...you were unbelievable...absolutely unbelievable." You showed the world how blues is supposed to be played. Many future blues guitarists will get their inspiration from you. "You are truly "THE"... "blues God!" Thank you...and you are well loved! Show them how to play in heaven!
JW was an absolute wise man concerning BLUES- I admire him so much!!!! . A great performer over all the years, so unassuming/ self-effacing/ human.... you can see/feel this in his latest interviews an appearances.......
saw him play this at higher ground in burlington, VT a few years ago. Stood about 8 feet from where he was sitting. Just amazing guitar man. Has always been a favorite of mine!!! Come on back to vermont, Johnny!
This is King Tone, baby! Johnny Winter is still great. It's too bad that no one submitted the original version by Bob Dylan. I can't find it on UA-cam (just some goofy sped-up version of it).
Even though he played the Lazer for years due in part to it's light weight (and Gibson type sound) it is a treat to see and hear him bring out the Firebird for this one! Dylan wrote this song but Johnng Winter OWNED IT. RIP my man - you always bring joy and a smile...
I pray that JW is aware of just how much we all miss him now. Hope that maybe his passing will bring him the praise he so rightfully deserved for his years of dedication to the blues.
@nwleeuw The Duane is Duane Allman of The Allman Brothers Band. He's my favorite slide player. He was killed in an accident on his motorcycle in 1971 in my hometown of Macon, Ga. Johnny & Derek are great too! I love listening to all of them!
Johnny loves steel on steel, it gives him such a 'dirty' sound. Every now & then Derek slides with his glass, what a sweet blend. Derek's always learning, see him watching Johnny like an eagle? (Besides being super-glad to strum rhythm for one of his idols.)
It is indeed an open "D" tuning for this song. Johnny used several different tunings... I think his overall favorite was "G" or "Spanish" tuning. But yeah... this one's in "D."
@BillyVanHelsing I believe so, as well. I saw Johnny Winter in a small-hall venue. The bright house lights got to him a bit. He only made slight mention of it. He just kept on playing some bruisin' tunes.
I think this is just such a great performance all around. What a gutsy slide player Johnny is.
Checkout Trucks' face. He's one of the best slide players ever and he's just thrilled to be listening to Johnny play. RIP Johnny.

Like the cats that just ate the canary?
Bro, it ain't going to get any better then this?
Johnny doesn't do covers. He reinvents songs. This is the best version "Highway 61". Plus it's a preachable text. Rev. Ted
Go. Johnny. Go. The. Indian. 😂
Love this version - what a great band what a great version
Who will any real taste in real music could give this a thumbs down ????
Johnny Winters is the best rock guitar player ever.

Meet him two times in his tour bus, a fantastic fellow, a sage and humble character
Dylan wrote it, but Johnny perfected it. RIP JOHNNY.

How about the Bass player he's got a look on face like I can't believe am playing with Johnny Winter. Great footage R.I.P Johnny, say Hey to Muddy!

ich liebe diese alten Männer, mit denen ich gewachsen bin ... Thank you ...
Still the best
JW was still on great form here.

Dereck was like , WTF...I'm jamming with a legend , it can't get any better !
I'm sooo jealous.
Saw the brothers in the 70s.....rock and roll!

THAT WAS A TREAT DEREK TRUCKS WAS PLAYING WITH JOHNNY.IT WAS FANTASTIC
Go. Johnny. Sounds. Good

By Johnny! See you at the next junction!
Go Johnny go! I'd love to play my growlin' Hammond with a stick of dynomite like you!
God Bless You Man!
This must be from the Crossroads concert (Eric Clapton's).
A shame that no images are available of Captured Live on UA-cam and else channels.
Rest in Peace Johnny Winter. :(
ジョニーウィンターの東京公演見に行きました 😀
ジョニーウィンターは故人ですが僕の大好きなギタリストです 😀
Great rendition of a Dylan classic, who can blame the bluesman follwoing the other legend!
this gets more rad each time I watch it
You're a legend Johnny...so damn good.
It is indeed an open "D" tuning for this song. Johnny used several different tunings... I think his overall favorite was "G" or "Spanish" tuning. But yeah... this one's in "D."
Derek is so much digging this...
I love the Highway 61 version played on Bob Dylan's Birthday concert years ago
REST IN PEACE JOHNNY WINTER--7/16/2014
I can't believe he's gone!!
Love me some Edgar Winter, too!
@BillyVanHelsing I believe so, as well. I saw Johnny Winter in a small-hall venue. The bright house lights got to him a bit. He only made slight mention of it. He just kept on playing some bruisin' tunes.
That's Derek Trucks. Guaranteed he's thrilled!
free lesson from the master
That blond guitarist stage right sure seems thrilled to be there!
I would say: The Cover (Johnny Winter) is much better than the Original (Bob Dylan) !!!
Wow, that was awesome.
new tune line... the Gibson logo just fell off the headstock... you'll find it out on the side of highway 61
RIP ~ YOU WIZARD - YOU!
Oh, thanks Cienega32! I haven't seen a photo of Derek Trucks, so I didn't know what he looks like. I like his work, too.
Johnny is now eternal.
+Daryl Johnson yes. Immortal.
Johnny,and Duane!'
go johnny go
Millennial Blues history
Craziest dude ever lived..
Johnny is great. He should have given Derek a solo.
dieter you have real good taste in music bro
RIP my old friend
Rest In Peace Johnny
I love Johnny, but to me Duane is the best slide player of all time. Just my preference. They're both awesome...
Yoda teaching young Skywalker.
Looks a bit like Freddy Krueger in this video - but man what a guitarplayer.
Still alive and well... what else can I say?
That song was written by rick derringer for Johnny.
The Yoda of the slide......……….
Still hot!
Fuckin' Legend!!
!!!!!!!!!!!
Which is the guitar tuning?
Sounds like open D but I'm not sure...
Can you tell me, he is blind or is he just closes his eyes?
NikeBlues yes he lost more and more eyesight in the years before his death.
I believe he’s been legally blind all his life.
lol @0000Bigfoot...and not all blacks are named White ...just joking with you ..
