Nice stuff. That Forgotten Realms Campaign Set was the first D&D product I bought back in the day. Brings back good memories.

Thank you for watching. It’s certainly very nicely detailed for when it was released. The box sets felt like good value for money back then.

You're making me feel better about my own spending 😅 I got back into RPGs a few months ago and promptly bought Dark Sun 2e, Planescape 2e and several books and supplements. Kara Tur looks awesome. I always wanted that one.

When d&d felt novel, mysterious, dark and dangerous. Everything it isn't anymore.

Absolutely. Though I think part of that was due to not having the internet so the books had a lot more mystique and a greater sense of physical community. These days there are so many more options. Thanks for watching.

It's so easy for stuff to be missing in those boxed sets. And they really pushed up the cost of preparing products for sale during the 2nd Edition Era. I think WotC were right to get rid of them and switch back to the hardback format of 1st Edition.
But it is a shame that the D&D Classics reprints inside the DMs Guild storefront does not offer separate poster maps. The maps are the one thing that can not be crunched down into book format.
I don't care too much for the audio CDs that TSR and WotC put into a few products, but it would also be good for DMs Guild to have a connection to a Print on Demand CD manufacturer, for people who want to buy that sort of thing.

Yeah absolutely. Matter of fact, the unboxing video in the following month had 4 monster sheets missing.
But there’s something quite magical in opening a box and finding dozens of cool little nicknacks and that’s what they’re really selling. The fantasy. I think prudent business decisions gets in the way of creating truly magical experiences like these old boxsets. Beadle & Grimm’s deluxe sets are like $300-$400 that’s an insane price. To think that you could pick it up for $30 30 years ago is mind blowing to me. Wish I wasn’t such a poor kid back in the day.

I feel like if WotC actually did proper reprints of these, I would quickly need more book shelves...

If they did reprint these they’d cost $60-$100…….. but I’d still buy it again. 🤪

@Dndditches Right? The box set format brings back awesome memories, plus the way maps are included these days, if they even are, end up just being folded into the book... at one point in time I was attempting to get all of the sections of map for the Forgotten Realms... but my older brother stole all my 2e stuff a few decades ago...

@@slaapliedjeyeah the box format with the goodies was such a thrill it’s like opening Christmas presents everytime. There’s something charming about these old maps cuz it was built on a dream and a lot of imagination.
Bummer about your FR books but I’d do the same…… lol jk but old books are irresistible. Maybe you can find cheap replacements from a garage sale somewhere.
