  • Ten riders assembled in the parking area close to the Postcard Cafe in Clun, prior to enjoying some warming drinks and assorted cakes and pastries before the start of the outward leg to Knighton. Mike lent his Ordinary against the rather low parapet of the bridge and it tipped into the
river! Fortunately, Mike was able to retrieve the bike which was undamaged except for the loss of its' horn in the river. The peloton made an eclectic sight with Mike's Ordinary, Glyn and Gareth's tandem, Trevor' Moulton and other bikes vintage and modern. Rain showers had been forecast throughout the day and so it proved but nothing of any real consequence to dampen, the enthusiasm. Our route out from Clun was towards Clunton, Purslow and Twitchen, before turning into the quiet lanes to Hopton Castle where the now traditional group photo was taken. Bedstone and Bucknell followed and it was here that we were joined by two more of our section members for the back lanes ride to Knighton and lunch at The Horse and Jockey pub. With the sunshine now deciding to make a welcome appearance we took the option of sitting outside and enjoying the warmth.
Following lunch there was the option of either retracing the mornings route, a longer but generally flatter ride or the shorter but hillier alternative back to Clun. Surprisingly, the majority elected to ride the hillier return. Mike had coped well on his Ordinary but he swapped it for a modern mountain bike so he could make the hillier return. The afternoon began with the climb to Skyborry, then down to Skyborry Green and then the long ascent through Upper Treverward and although damp conditions prevailed the views were worth the effort, with a bonus after the steady climbing of a long freewheel descent back to Clun to round off the afternoon.
