This is wonderful. She completely throws herself into the music -- and the part -- and is superb. There are several excellent versions of this on UA-cam but only Bryn Terfel and Hawksley communicate the power and joy of the music.

I envy the patriotism of the British... I am Spanish, and very sorry for our lack of pride and self respect. Unimaginable such a patriotic exhibition like this in my country... why???? Although great enemies throughout History, I admire your acheivements, and I feel like joining the enthusiatic yield "Rule Britannia"... after all, you deserve it more than us, for you´ve managed to preserve your greatness, self respect, and patriotism along the Centuries.

Produces a need to lord it over those lazier sorts, who need only to reach up and pluck a piece of fruit for sustenance and where the growing season is all year long and no need to hurry. The hot climate produces a people satisfied to kick back and pass a pleasant time. Thomas Arne seemed to know all that.
before the Declaration of Independents they considered themselves British but the DOI made people think of themselves as a free nation and people started to consider themselves Americans in a sense and their was other people who considered themselves English who were royalist but when the fighting started they considered themselves as Americans. I agree-there is no doubt about his greatness and brilliance. Thought, he understood odds were against Britain in the Battle of Britain. But he would have fought to the death. I wonder what would happen if it were fought today, what US and British leaders would do. Do you really think in the face of the carnage and death toll they would make the "enemy" invade and fight it out to the death? The Germans bombing the RAF airfields was costing RAF fighters at a rate they couldn't sustain.

It's called coloratura singing and it's incredibly difficult to do- singing a lot of notes in a split second and you can't slide from one note to another. You must sing each one right on pitch. A lot of vocal artists must be jealous. It's not something everyone can do.

sorry I loled at this, and I am British. Operation Sealion was very much on the cards. The ME109 was actually a better plane, and the winner of the Battle of Britain was the Hurricane (there were shedloads more of em and they were tougher than the spit.) Yes the RN was better than the German navy, but if the Germans had gained air superiority then believe me, we would have crumbled to Hitler. I do agree though we had no help to win the Battle of Britain.
