  • A 7 minute video showing how to remove the spring suspension of the Michell Gyrodec and replace it with Solidair Audio Pylons. The pylons give a cleaner sound with excellent separation of different vocals and instruments.

    Interesting product. I've found on my gyrodec that the bass is fuller, with a good bounce. Does this replacement version reduce the bass?
    Also it looks like the rubber band isn't level. It looks quite a bit off on the video. I have read you should use the feet to level the turntable not the springs as shown in the video. The springs are there to get an even vertical bounce, not to level the platter.

      i think im wright in saying,you level the acrylic base 1st then level the platter with the spindles/then twist the springs on the spindles to get the bounce,without altering the level,hope this helps.m

      You can raise the pulley wheel on the motor unit to get the belt level. Looks dreadful as it is.

      I heard David Price say on the review show RiffRaff , that he was fortunate enough to be shown by John Michel once, how to set up a GyroDec correctly and that subsequently whenever he saw a GyroDec at a Hifi show , shop or someone’s home , he noticed that 9 out of 10 were set up incorrectly . Perhaps explaining why people say they can have speed stability issues or other things that will affect the sound . As we see here just one mistake in the premise behind a function will cause a series of potential issues that people then chase by buying “upgrades” and such . Not that upgrades aren’t worth it but just setting the deck up correctly will make the boost importamnt impact on the performance .

    Sorry to be negative because the mod itself may be a great idea, but I am glad that isn't my acrylic base you're scratching.

      Please note that no acrylic was harmed during the making of this video

      @@solidairaudio I believe you Miles :), just my paranoia about assembling mine when it arrives manifesting itself.
      It is due to arrive sometime early December, all being well. It will look fantastic sitting next to my Transcriptor Hydraulic, the original and its great, great, great, great grandson.
      I may well put these on my shopping list if it won't invalidate my warranty :).

    do you still get the bounce like you do with the springs or is it controlled ?

      sinngsg9 there is no bounce like with the springs. This particular turntable has the Solidair Audio Gyro Performance pack fitted, which is a magnetic levitation system replacing the standard cone feet and floating the whole deck a few mm in the air. Near the end of the video you will see some damped movement in this system.

    What about vta

    • @solidairaudio
      @solidairaudio  2 роки тому

      Vta is not changed as the armboard is mounted on the chassis. The whole chassis/armboard/platter assembly is suspended, so relative positions are unchanged.

    Why bother? Rubberbands instead of real springs!!!

      Because they sound better. More damping, no ringing, more stability for better speed control.
