Around 40 year ago some friends and I drove to Windber, PA from just up the road in Loretto, PA. The Duquesne University Tamburitzans were performing there in Windber. After the show I went over to the table with all the record albums. I grabbed this album here and the fellow managing the table said to me, "you don't want that album, it's gypsie music." I replied, "well then it's the one I want" and purchased it. I listened to it a lot over the years. Great album. I no longer have any records. I left all my 33 rpm albums back in Pennsylvania with a friend. Just seeing the cover brings back memories. Since then too I have made it a point to listen to lots and lots of Romani music from all over the world. I am grateful to the fellow who told me not to buy the album. His reverse psychology worked.

We always took home an album after one of the Tamburitzan's concerts. I have the "Zabava" album. My Aunt Eva gave us her collection of '78's. They were very fragile and did not survive. Did the Tamburitzans preserve any of those early '78 recordings? I always wished a translation of the songs were included with the music. That would have added greatly to my enjoyment of it. I've translated many traditional Croatian songs and Christmas carols. It was well worth the effort to learn the beautiful lyrics.

That’s a great story Bob! Thankfully we have preserved most of the records from throughout our history. Currently we are working on digitizing all of those records. I’m sure we have some of the albums from ‘78, although we are still in the midst of a move and some things are “out of place” right now. A translation of the songs is a great idea given how earthly and beautiful many of the lyrics are. This is something we hope to include in these videos moving forward!
