My process of molding and casting a clay sculpture without a vacuum chamber or a pressure pot. There are multiple ways of molding and casting, this method was best suited for my needs, and doesn't require special casting equipment. If you found this video helpful and want to show your appreciation you can do so by supporting my work on Patreon. Thank you!

thank you , i was looking for a way to save my statue ( prime 1's bat who laughs )and it didnt occur to me to glaze the mold before i actually cast it . this way the actual statue is in storage and the copy is out in the world.
Someone else asked the same thing? I can't seem to find it. I had the same question and was looking for the answer. I see someone else refers to it as a layer of resin.
@@brandonc272 I'm applying a first layer of resin with the brush to make sure all the fine details are covered and I don't get tiny air bubbles on the surface of the cast.
Crafty Art. Great work and really nice music. Who is the artists?
I cut the fists in the beginning because their shape has many irregularities that could be problematic when casting. Air can get trapped in high points like the knuckles or tips of the fingers, and ruin the cast. I couldn't vent them properly so I decided to cast them separately to have more control.
Crafty Art if the face/head has a lot of details, like earlobes and nostrils and eyelids, should the head be molded/casted separately as well?
@@MsPoliteRants Not necessarily, but it depends. If the face has an open mouth you can get a mold lock, and you may not be able to pull the cast from the mold. I had made a human anatomy model and have cast it in one piece just fine.
Crafty Art oh okay. Thank you that’s very helpful :)
What do you do when the hands make some sort of an O shape like they are holding something or doing the OK/666 sign or whatever. Would you make a two part mold for something that small? And how do you cut them of if you have a skeleton of wire inside of it?
Crafty Art what clay you use
Prebrushing plastic into the molds before joining and pouring is a really good idea. It reduces the chances of air bubbles.
I will have to give that a try.
Ya I noticed that..what material did he use?..
Best wishes on your tutorial series and projects from Distortions!
I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to post how too's on here and tell you its very appreciated...its very helpful to see how other people do stuff and nomatter how long I've been doing it I can never learn enough or see enough of other people's processes to add into my own ways of doing it so thanks again ...cheers🍻
That is pure black magic what you have done there
Makes me all melancholic..reminds me of good old times when I was studying at secondary school of applied art (ceramic department) and we were making forms like these all the time (just not a figure shaped:))
This video will really come in handy as I'm currently in the middle of sculpting my very first statue and wanted to make a mold and cast it. Thank you for sharing this
How’d it go?
I've been looking for a video for so long that shows it very simply.thank you this is the best video I've found.you just show it exactly right.thank you👍🏾😊
Nice job and good demostration, I will wait for more projects soon
This is awesome thanks for sharing. I've always have problems with bubbles when casting.
Just what i need for an upcoming project, thanks.

Your work is incredible! Blown away by the talent!
Superb video. So informative. Thanks for posting it.
I think this is the best method I’ve ever seen for making a mild and casting
Wow this is amazing, thank you for sharing this tutorial, i may now able to mold my sculptures as well, may you have many more videos to come.👍
Brilliant video, thanks so much
Wow! That's very impressive! Nice😎👍
It answers a lot of questions in my mind... Molding, it is so interresting, thanks!
July 3, 2019---Thank you for an interesting & educational video. Learned I don't have to use Lego's as a form, especially when the form is an odd ball shape such as your figure. Also, remember to add pour vents to the subject so the resin reaches thru out the mold. And will give a try in coating the mold pieces with resin before pouring. I'm working in 1/35th scale and made several different wagons used by kids. Tried using a syringe to inject the resin into the one piece molds, but when removing them, they broke on me. And yes, I did use mold release on the molds before hand. Suggestions?
Thanks for sharing... I'm motivated to try my first attempt at this craft...
This video is super satisfying

Fantastic video! Thank you for this and inspiring me to have a go!
Details are fascinating 👏🏼
beautifully done!
so satisfying to watch
This was fascinating
Keep the work man :)
please post a video on how you sculpted this!
Great work!
I do it a similar way except I put two small super strong rare earth magnets in the feet and suspend the figure upside down from a piece of flat metal then pour the molding compound. It eliminates a lot of time and extra work.
This reminds me of the sculptures that are used as bases for the SHF Shinkocchou Seihou figures.
Belo trabalho, magnífico!!!
amazing, fantastic work
Great music too! Thank you for that
perfect man, good job

Great video 🙌
Cool!
Hell of a lot of clay work! but superb video. Thanks for sharing
very helpful thanks man
Oh my bad, I already see the materials in your description. Thank you so much.
It is great and great I am loved by these things and I hope to check them out in the future 💓
cool video !
Using foam to support the molding clay is a great idea! I was using aluminum foil and found it tricky to recycle all my clay from it (something like this would have made cleanup a lot faster)
at 9:50 there is a very confusing optical illusion... instead of it looking like spidey is face-down in the mold, it looks like he's turned at a different angle... my eyes hurt after seeing that lmao
I noticed that immediately. I couldn't see it any other way.

OMG it makes me dizzy
Makes my head feel wierd
U
Super cool!!! Great like!!!!
Doing this for the first time now with a relative complex statue. This video helps a lot ty ;)
Awesome.
Incridible
oooh, nice vents
Awesome!
I love how “crafty” you got (see the pun? 😂) with making your own casting chamber. I am still trying to figure out what was the purpose of the two blue strings that went from wrist to hip? Also, how did you go about shaving off the excess raisins that sipped thru?
The blue wires are vents that will allow the air in the arms to escape when pouring the resin. Because the model will be head upside down when the resin is poured, the air would get trapped in the arms if not for those blue wires. As for the excess at the seamline just use a cutter, it's easily removable.
@@CraftyArt Thank you for this explanation

Thank you
Очень круто! Спасибо за интересное видео :)
👏👏👏lindo trabalho, show 🇧🇷
Wow, this is very cool seeing the process.
Awesome
Amazing thanks!
wow thankyou
Very cool indeed.
Sus aportes son geniales gracias
Wow 😍😍😍
Very Nice !
Very nice.
Excelente broo 🐬
Nice work! Just one tiny suggestions though. Cut your backing boards to the same size and shape of the mold. This will greatly reduce the amount of flash.
Explendido! É realmente impressionante. Quero um dia poder fazer o mesmo.

Awesome video! Working on making a resin cast myself! May I ask what the process was before pouring the resin? You appeared to be brushing something into the negative? Was that mold release or resin?
Lindo trabalho parabéns.👏👏👏
awsome!
Thanks. I am looking into monster clay for creating temporary sculptures to cast. I've used plastelline with super sculpey, but wasn't sure if it could work with monster clay.
Excellent
Amazing! How were you able to smoothen your sculpt like that?
Thanks! I used small folded paper sheets dipped in turpentine and did some micro sanding.
Good job 👏👍👍👍
