I remember during October in a non official competition for power up, a robot had a full extended 10ft elevator and went full speed backwards and then tipped over the barrier into the scoring table. Will never forget that moment.
Alex omg omg this had me dead, I did feild reset for Destination Deep Space, (st.joseph Michigan comp of you were wondering) and honestly that was a bad wall, there is no way a robot that small could just plow through the wall
@@matthewl5434 going over the obstacle it got turned slightly and that sent it into a weaker section in the wall. if it had gone straight it would have just gone towards the back wall
5:30 Hey, fun fact: Just this year, the Mighty Monkey Wrenches (Team 2016) came over to Canada for the regionals. My team was very lucky to be with them and to make it to Semis with them. We had another robot in our team and we were the 6th alliance formed. We were destroying team after team and we were going to finals and even beat Alliance #1 (which is extremely rare) when, during our last match, the 3rd robot of our alliance yeeted another robot almost upside down. Everyone was going crazy and thought how badass it was until the judges gave us a red card and killed us on the spot. Another year of ending early for a red card...
"This is not battle bots" is going to be my new favorite term for competitions and I am in FRC team 4462 full metal Jackets so if you have any of that team I would love to see them in your videos
Our alliance had all three robots dog pile during an off season event. It’s kinda funny, we set the record for the most points scored during a match, and the least points scored during a match that day. 😂
Dude, these are hilarious. I’m on a second year team 7303 and this year, 2019 the space race year, our team preloaded a ball, drove off the second level hab, and immediately dropped out the ball and drove onto it. Our robot didn’t have enough clearance on the back end to get off the ball😂. We sat there until it eventually popped, by that point we were disqualified for the round. It was the Plano West district competition in Texas.
Ayy 4:16 that was a fun match to watch! I was the human player for 2791 and 639 was complaining that we didn't hit them more to try and break 1k points XD
That match was amazing to watch while we were working on our own bot, couldn’t get the lifter working. They later became our alliance partners in Auburn along with our good friends, 2046 (BearMetal)
In 2017 my team (4967) shot fuel cells over the alliance wall and hit 2767's e-stop button in the final match of kentwood district tournament. They were stopped in front of our rope so neither bot climbed. Amazingly we still won the event!
In 2014, my team (2169) was in a match against the poofs on Curie. This was the first year we tried swerve, and it was a disaster. Somehow after autonomous, all of our encoders short-circuited, confusing the cRIO and making the turn motors spin at full power. We E-stopped once we realized what was going on, but it was already too late. I believe everything was all twisted together and the motors were burning up. We couldn't tell in the driver box, but once we walked past the shields, we could smell it, and it was bad. I felt bad for the refs who had to sit through that!
my ftc teams robot had an arm before the first meet that was very inefficient and was overheating, so we had to remove and be just a pushbot in the first round of regionals. funny enough, with lots of other great teams there, we still managed to get second place
it's painful in the moment, but you look back on it with laughter, we've had our frame look more like jello then a box for a match before, it's all in good fun :P
Backstory to my teams robot(5022 Rat Rod Robotics) at around 7:15 we had a backup driver running the robot cause our other dude wasn’t there and he was new, it was all his fault 😂💀
So saw this video and thought huh that might be a good one, got to the part about your team and was like “Huh wonder who their team is that’s kinda cool.” THEN I RECOGNIZED THE ANNOUNCERS VOICE! I was like “Hey that’s Patrick” and I looked up and saw SMR and I thought “WAIT I WENT TO THAT!” I looked up your team number and lo and behold what comes up? FARRAGUT!!! This is where I introduce myself Hi I’m Jordan I’m part of the STEMpunks team 3966 from the L&N STEM Academy. If you don’t know what that is it’s a magnet school with kids from all over the county. Guess what my zoned school is... Farragut!
Who knows if I will see fails in FRC this year. If there are any compilation videos from Oklahoma Regional or Kansas City regional, my team could be there.
Had one from infinite recharge, had our elevator up for the generator switch nudging it forward, my finger slipped and our elevator became a noodle of metal and constant force springs
During Deep Space we were dealing with kinda jank code that didn’t always work. We had one game where everything worked fine during the 15 second blind segment and the next 15 seconds after, then our code just kinda...derped out and the the drive station stopped working.
I don't remember much, but last year (deep space) a ball hit our main breaker in the middle of a match. Honestly, our robot was falling apart constantly. Constant problems. Cut to this year, we just got back from a competition today. Our biggest problem was our lead screw for the climber bent, but it still worked! We made it to quarterfinals and were the alliance captain! Amazing how a team can change in a year.
There was one match in which two robots became entangled and one died. The other team tried to get out but killed theirs in the process, 70+ flags on both sides and both were disqualified and told to pack their bags and leave. Took all the control board people and referees and the rulebook was open on the spot and referenced historical information and replayed match on tablets all while La Macarena was playing and everyone in the front row was doing the Macarena dance. No that wasn't a joke!
At 4:18 I was at that event and I have pictures of the two robots stuck under the scale we were all laughing so hard 😂🤣 (Team 250 wishes you a awesome 2019 build season!)
As Michael Corsetto said while waiting in queue at Sacramento this year: "We are all just one sensor coming loose from failure". Failure is our first opportunity to learn!
Could you give me some advice whether to join frc or not? Idk whether to start robotics at 15 or just keep my life simple and learn when I go to college or uni
You know, I'd say if you're seriously considering joining FRC, Do it. You won't regret it, the skills they teach, the team building, the friends you'll have, the places you'll go, the people you'll meet, the spirit of the competition where it's competitive but friendly, the helpfulness of other teams and just walking around in the pits, it's an unforgettable experience. So, yeah, join your local robotics team. See if your school has one or check out the FRC website to find a team near you.

My funniest thing that happened to me while in frc in 2020, I was driving my teams robot-team 8193- crashed into the pole by the balance and bent the intake on the robot and jammed it so we couldn't pick up any of the balls. Other than that though my teams robot did not break at all during competition
Should have seen my team, our auto was set to drive all the way across the field and crash into the opponents wall and knock over their control board. Unintentional of course, Mason Michigan’s robot event 2018 if y’all wanted to check
Okay so im part of team 3581, we were the peachtree disctrict unicorn match for Power Up, the 2018 game. We were able to not only hang on the scale but also hold 2 other robots. The thing is, the unicorn match was our second match of the season, and we were never able to do it again.
6:09 Why no failsafe on "can not extract" ? should be easy to implement, as only ONE position on field causes this error ever. Beeing good at robots doesn't mean somehow, that people are good in case-dependent coding.
In 5050s first match at Lincoln, an opponent doesn’t move in auton, then moves forward at most 5 feet in telelop and then flips. They weren’t a tall bot (switch/exchange) so idk what caused the CoG issue. Their alliance got 5 points that match. I think you should include that in another one.
theredhatter aye we were there too 😂 that was a funny match. So was “table bot” that was literally made out of wood. The whole gym screamed when it finally got a cube in -5567
“This is not battle bots” is a phrase that is stuck in my head, I am on FRC and a mentor for FTC,
