Correction: Turns out you CAN set the keyboard table to a preferred height using 2 included bolts and a stopper nuts that attach at the hinge. So that's what those extra screws were for... - AS
Why not just have Alex build one? Bend some piping, thread it together, use some pull-pin locks for a few positions from upright to laying down and see just how much of a budget you can really build a "simple", "cheap", "cockpit" for???
@@bobfuckingsmith I'm certainly not a professional metal worker or machinist but I know a lot of them (I'm just a dumb engineer :P) but I do a lot of tool work and the first thing I thought when I saw this was that I've seen those guys paper napkin things of this level of complexity. If it were me, I would just start with a nice full recliner and then build around it. That eliminates a big problem with these things and that is they are often impossible to hop in and out of and that is what makes them useless to have. I'm curious how you more true builders would go about it.
I strongly suspect a much better option for these is going to be something like a medical recliner (meant for people getting chemotherapy/dialysis for many hours a day) where you can add peripherals like a monitor arm and a swiveling lap desk (to which you could attach an ergo keyboard tray with a tilting mouse part rather than the stock wood). I suspect the cost would actually be pretty similar too, and while the design might be more hospital chic than gamer, the many of designs for them aren't terrible these days definitely blend in better with a living room/standard office (some are kinda Mid Century Modern or Swedish minimalism even for those swanky doctors offices).
the transformation between hospital and gamer aesthetic is just the color scheme anyway. put some racing strip on the leather, carbon fiber decal on metal parts, and boom, gamer chair!
I think building it around a medical recliner would add up to a similar expense. I'm not trying to say this product is reasonably priced, but 4000$ is not THAT outlandish.
I splurged on an Uplift desk about a year ago and also bought a small under-desk things with pedals (to "bike" while you're sitting in the chair) and a Urevo treadmill so that I can walk and stand while at the desk. It's made a WORLD of difference for me. Yeah, I paid quite a lot of money for it, well outside my budget, but since I'm a developer (or rather, "soon to be" developer), I spend so much time at the computer that I want to be able to sit, stand, bike, and walk while still working at the desk. Typing while walking took some getting used to but now I'm actually able to code really efficiently while walking, and it forces me to stay more focused on my work. It's helped me lose weight and not get cramps, boredom, or antsiness from immobility. I definitely recommend it if you can afford it. I even do gaming now while on the treadmill or biking and it actually helps me quite a lot.
Just curious, how tall are you? As I stand 6'3" (190.5 cm) finding a standing desk that I can use when just standing is difficult at best, so just curious about that part for yourself. As any treadmill adds a few more inches too. thanks!

@@grantcreveling1965 I'm 6'4" I got the tall version of Fully Jarvis, thing is awesome it actually goes so high there's easily elevation for someone 3-4 inches taller than me using it comfortably.
I know these things usually cost way more, but once you are spending 4000+ dollars on something like this, it has to be perfect Some of the adjustments this needs are not really that heavy on the total assembly cost, but even then, I'd spend 200-300 bucks more just to have some minor adjustments that would make this all less tedious

Yeah, plus the fact that you’re spending $4,000+ on something that doesn’t even do what it’s supposed to do in the first place. Eliminate distractions? Just delete distracting apps from your phone or computer. Not sure what this weird space chair is doing to eliminate those. I mean you could always still just… pull your phone out… or…. get up out of the chair and do something else? Be more healthy or something? Idk maybe. But I’m skeptical. I mean you are STILL sitting down…. just…. at an angle? Okay. I mean you could always just minimize your time sitting playing games and get some exercise, or you could buy an astronaut chair. It’s really cool? Well that’s obviously subjective. But yeah it’s pretty cool. It probably gets old really quick though. I know personally I would probably get tired of sitting in the international space station after a few days and probably just go back to a normal chair
I have a recliner and an Airdesk, so I basically have a super-budget cockpit. I'll admit that the 'dis-incentivises getting up' is fair. It's very comfy though, and I don't have to deal with pleather. I adjusted to reclined gaming very easily, but then I also have an extra little arm-rest table for a gamepad on my left side. It makes me feel like a starship pilot.
The problem with things sliding could be fixed with an LTT mouse mat and a GN mod-mat for the keyboard. I wish a company would offer a truly affordable option for more people to incorporate into their gaming or work station. The materials are really not that expensive for a company if the parts were all ordered by using bulk sourcing each part. Thanks for sharing the unit because it was a great episode.
You can lock the table at any angle you wish. They missed that although it says so in the manual. The idea is you pick and angle where it almost slides. Same goes for the mouse table. When shifting positions you are meant to readjust the table as well to a flatter angle so that nothing slides. Yes, it is a pain in the butt to do so each time but most people tend to stick to one position after they play around for a while. Also keep in mind that motors eventually break, this won't.
@@LevusWorkstation when you make the price so high for this kind of product your target is someone who usually can afford to spend more money than 4k, so take note of every problem ltt pointed out, solve them, make it super easy and practical to use. Then you can cover the additional costs selling it at a higher cost. Anyway, don't forget that everyone will see that it is " a combination of tubes and tables that costs as much as a car" so maybe trying to keep the price as low as possible would make it even more succesful.

I bet that after reading it the configuration is still slow and unpractical. Saying add features but keep low the product price I meant to don't set it to like 10k$, to try to give the "damn, i spent 4k but it's been worth it". And unluckily it's not a kind of product that looks as expensive as it is in reality. @@simonvalent The "damn, I spent 4k but it is worth it!" feeling comes after a week or so. This is not about looks, this is about relaxing every muscle. Making it look more expensive and or easier will simply make it more expensive and or create a new problem. Believe me we tried. Everything has a cost, you add this then that has to be changed as well, and then the other thing wont fit into those things etc... It is really hard to balance all those interconnected elements. But I do appreciate the input. And we do listen. It's just all not as simple as it might first seem.
I love the concept of those style of cockpit. But I keep coming to the same thing you said near the end: get a recliner. It's pretty easy to build a frame to hold a VESA-mount screen(s) and jury rig a lap desk or laptop stand for your control set.
I have an Autoful gaming chair that reclines and a decent foot stool to put my feet on and use a lap desk or a controller. Helps my chronic pain massively compared to sitting upright.
I took a LG TV and put it on the cealing. It's inclined towards the bed and the pc is wired to it via hdmi. Sitting in the bed with a small pillow and looking at the TV that's now the monitor has helped me to relax my back since I also have back problems but I also must work a lot at the computer computer daily. Best decision ever, it's so comfortable in the bed.
My best friend has an unbelievable amount of back pain due to a car accident when she was young. She has a very comfortable gaming setup where she plays all her PC games while relaxing on a recliner. She also uses a 55 inch LG C2 as the display. Controllers for gaming and a keyboard/trackpad combo for navigating the desktop. She doesn’t work here at all, but it has done an amazing job at making her comfortable. She loves to play games again now that her back isn’t in constant pain sitting at a desk. And it doesn’t take up a lot of space. PC gaming doesn’t have to be just desks and office chairs. It can be relaxing and comfortable. Personally, I play all my PC games from the couch and I’ve never been happier because I’m so comfortable
In fairness, I already have this on the fly. If it were to be created in one single unit like this, then I would at least expect it to have motorised wheels so I can reach the WALLe future I know I'm destined to end up in.
I have been using a recliner at my desk for a *while* now and I love it. Way more comfy than my old office chair, and because I've got a pull-out keyboard tray I can still type with relative ease (though I do normally just set my keyboard on my lap if I'm going to be using it for a long time). The only concession I've had to make is switching to a trackball, since a mouse would basically need a lap board. I don't think I'll ever go back to a normal office chair. This is just so much more comfortable.
As someone with severe spine issues, this concept is awesome. I’m actually in the process of making a DIY version with an ergonomic recliner and wall mounted swing arms for monitors and keyboards trays. But I actually do a lot of work from home.
Another thing to note about this genre of products is that it's not just marketed towards people chasing the most ergonomic setup possible. It's also a way for people that wouldn't otherwise be able to use a full fledged desktop setup. I suffered a work injury that has made sitting upright in a chair for more than an hour so painful that it's just not possible. If I had the money to afford it, I would have bought one these a long time ago so that I could actually use the PC that I spent 2.5k on and built, but barely get to enjoy. Obviously, not everyone can afford to drop 10k on a desk and chair replacement. So I really appreciate that there are companies trying to lower the barrier for entry for one of these. They are a literal life changer for some people, even if they don't have all the features of one that is double the price.
@@Shadow0fd3ath24 That's exactly what I did. A Lafuma recliner, alongside a desk (not feet under, 90degrees to how you would normally sit). Then bolted my monitor arm to the front of the desk so that one monitor hung out front over my chair and the other was over the desk for stability - need to make sure the desk will not tip forward! Bought a cheap laptop table on wheels from Amazon to put the keyboard and trackpad on (a mouse is not easy to use on a sloping desk). Worked a treat! The nice thing about the recliner chair is it will fold down and go in the boot of a car. So I have a 'portable' setup, where I have a decent boom microphone stand with an iPad holder designed to fit the 1/2 inch mic mount thread and a Logitech bluetooth keyboard, so I can get a comfortable set up on the road or outside even on a nice day!
@@itranscendencei7964 no probs, there was a lot of trial and error but things I found out: - Monitor needs to be fixed separately from the chair or it will move annoyingly when you shift position. - Ergotron do a handle kit for their monitor arms - this stops you putting too much pressure on the monitor mount when moving the screen about. - Thomann is where I got the boom mic stand and tablet holder, don't cheap out, get a decent heavy one like K&M. I tried those sprung loaded desk mount cheapo ones off Amazon and they were not substantial enough for regular use. - Options for the keyboard/pointing device are: - Keyboard and trackpad tray on your lap (this is what I use now) - Some sort of laptop table, I used one with wheels that was designed to go under a bed/sofa, but crucially, it needs to have a table surface where the angle can be adjusted. - Ergotron do a keyboard arm, not tried it, but it looks a good option. - A mouse is not very easy to use with this set up, when it's not flopping about all over the place, you are constantly pushing it 'uphill' on the angled table which gets tiring. For a table, I found I had to stick the keyboard and trackpad down with velcro, to stop them shifting about. I used a trackball successfully too, but never really found one that had a page scrolling mechanism that I got on with. Best to try the keyboard on your lap first and see how you get on, as that is by far the easiest to set up. Eventually I did end up spending a small fortune to get a setup in my lounge, as the garden relining chair looked at bit out of place! I settled on an Ergotron XL monitor arm, with a wall mount fixing and handle kit. This holds an iMac, that when pushed back against the wall just looks a bit like a wall mount TV. Then I got a nice recliner chair, a Varier Peel, which looks super funky, is comfortable for me and allows a bit of movement like a rocking chair. However, if I was to do this again, I would probably go for something like the human touch perfect chair, as it's a bit cheaper and seemed very robust when I tried it.
I went the cheaper and Far more comfortable route ... a Lazyboy recliner and 6 monitors and a 50" screen too . FNot paying 5k for a tubed seat with monitor mount . I payed 67$ for a triple monitor stand and 50$ for a dual and mounted them together for a 5 screen wall and slid my 50 in ther mix and another side screen . Setup an awesome gaming/vr sim setup for about 350$ at most . Ghettos fab is how i roll .
i would love to see them make their own gaming chair like this using the tools they have i think the team could make not only a better version but potentially one that costs less too
When used to work for census dept in early 2000’s….the data entry computers were in stations that would start sitting in chair and than pressing a button and would go to zero grav “laying” position that really was SICK AS HECK! Very comfy, ergonomic, no stress on neck, arms, hands, etc….and made entering in all that census data, pretty easy and fun. Only downside, when worked 3rd shift and was 4 am, the only issues is, might fall asleep in the launch station, as “we called them”, as it felt like we were going into space from all the tech each “work station” actually had, it really was a sick setup; and know they were cheap.
This is something that's interesting to me, as someone who spend a significant portion of their time basically bedbound, including working on computers. It's a pain, and it's remarkably difficult to get right, or even workable frankly. Given any other options, even when they will have substantial physical consequences, I will always choose to work sitting up. There are very few body positions that work with a mattress that's that shape and the inability to make even slight adjustments to my position becomes a real problem.
Have you tried using Talon for Voice? There are many of us who have needed to work from bed and offloading some of the work to voice rather than typing improves the ergonomics of such a set up dramatically.

I personally just bought an deals that can also change to a standing desk. This is much more handy as I can walk around my home office and look out of the window for example. Also if I need to work on a major incident at the middle of the night.. I would just fall asleep in that thing lol
There's nothing inherently wrong with setups like this, it is just more ways of living within our problems instead of getting up and stretching and taking a break.
I'd assume that using a normal chair, switching positions sometimes and getting up every now and then is probably healthier than laying down for 16 hours a day

zero gravity chairs and workstations are great for people with chronic back issues which makes them unable to sit on a regular chair without pain. this one is quite janky but competition pushes innovation and making them more affordable. thanks for the review!
Its one of those "set-and-forget" kinda deals. And it also reminds me of Wall-E and how the people there were sitting in chairs like that, with the difference that they were mobile and hovering. xD
I WFH from my hammock with my wall mounted TV. My keyboard rests on the edges of the hammock (it's actually very stable), and my trackball mouse is on a little table at the perfect height to the side. This just seems like a less comfortable version of what I already do, with a smaller screen. Edit: Wtf, $4,000 for some bent metal tubes, some stamped/formed sheet metal, and some upholstery foam? My entire setup ran me just over half that. $1800 for the TV, $120 for a quality wall mount, $100 to pay someone to mount this monstrosity, $80 for the hammock, and like $20 for a foam pad to line it with for extra comfort.

Review those gaming cockpit versions of this by Imperator Works or something like that. Honestly though all these chairs cost ridiculously insane amounts for a recliner with a monitor mount basically

As a personal trainer, I will say this reclined desk is not a good idea for the long term; your body staying in a permanently relaxed position will cause many more problems (e.g. muscle atrophy) in the long term, albeit it is more comfortable. An ideal sitting position is a neutral spine and slightly leaned back, but moving around and playing with your posture throughout the day is much more important than staying in place the whole day (see peer reviews). This desk has in uncanny resemblance to Wall-E and will hopefully not be the future. Get a stand/sit desk and move around/stretch when possible!
didnt harvard health have a study kind of disputing this? I believe they said a backwards lean sorta similar to the chair actually had less stress on the body overall.

The most comfortable computer chair I ever had was indeed a recliner. It was leather with wide, fairly flat arms and I had a small table on the right. Styles have changed in furniture and sadly I've not seen a recliner with arms like that for a long time. I wore that thing out and never could find a really good replacement. so now I'm in one with wide arms but they are rounded at the top so that I must have a table to one side or the mouse will roll into the floor when I let go of it. No need for a monitor stand built onto some contraption, just make it a table, desk, etc. your feet fit under when its reclined and set it just far enough back so you can get in and out of it. Works better than you'd think. With todays huge monitors there is no real need to have them right up at your nose. Was excellent for me as I have no TV. My computer is my "TV."
I had a desk next to my bed so I could swivel around the monitor and game while in bed. I was so excited for the idea and never used it for the 1.5 years it was implemented. I wouldn't ever want it again. Fun ideas just not what you really think it will be like. Its nice to be able to move
This thing kinda reminds me of the original super-reclined “chairs” the helm and navigation stations had on the Enterprise in Star Trek: TNG. I know they were designed to look comfy and futuristic, but they were updated later on to be less…weird. (The original chairs didn’t swivel, so you kinda had to tuck-in.)
First absolutely love the infomercial type intro and second I wouldn't really call this half priced it's still expensive for what it is even at half it's price and you'd also need alot of room for it as well considering the size of it
I want to see LTT get a tour of ErgoQuest, I'm not sure if they have a showroom or not, but they have some absolute monstrosities of ZG workstations. When it comes down to usability, ease of getting in and out, size, and lack of jank, I think their 6, 7, 11, and 12 might be the best fits, though part of me also does like their 8; 0 is a mixed bag for me as its footprint is more adjustable to the monitor setup (1 to 3, adjustable width, etc.) and seems like a one size fits all situation (on the smaller end I like it more and would consider it with the aforementioned models), 1 is just too large, 2 doesn't seem bad but seems cumbersome (one side is chair, the other is standing, all the joints compensate for this rotation), 3 and 4 (identical) are again just a bit large but don't seem bad, 5 is another sit-stand desk and I just think it has a weird footprint, 9 confuses me with it's desk behind the keyboard tray and I'm not sure why it exists, 10 is an entire hemisphere cockpit that rotates within a frame and I don't understand it at all, 13 and 14 are again just too big for practicality, and 15 is an entire gantry above the powered ZG chair. There's also the Ultimate (why break from the number model now?) which I don't dislike the concept of, I think it's just a bit too large, but if they adapt this model to a more reasonable size it'd be nice. The number naming model is also a bit confusing and inconsistent, they even get it incorrect from time to time, such as a video calling the 6 a 9, 1 gets thrown around in some 0 naming, etc. The one thing I don't like about ErgoQuest's products is how slow they are, and how the unmotorized components seem to just be free-floating, unmotorized components need a releasable friction clutch so that they just don't fling around if bumped, and motorized components should be much faster; if not adapting the clutch idea, motor-assisted free movement, clutch release button would also be the motor button, apply enough motor holding force so that a heavy arm doesn't crash down under gravity but not be so heavy that a user couldn't move the arm freely. I think ZG and cohesive workstation products could be a series, there's a lot of options to explore, everyone has a seemingly different implementation of them. I think in the case of companies like ErgoQuest and the costs of these things visiting a showroom of a company, distributor, or store is the best method of showcasing them, maybe there's a way to properly review them via a month-long rental or something. There's also even DIY projects, I've seen desks converted to fold down to work with ZG chairs, I've seen someone put a ZG lawnchair onto a makeshift furniture dolly with some added rails to keep the chair aligned, I've seen various arms added to chairs, various floor stands used, etc., so there's also potential in the Alex department of jankery when it comes to DIY solutions. ZG products and cohesive workstations don't really have much exposure outside of the niche market that's looking for them anyways, it'd be nice to see more generalized creators giving them more exposure, because if the generalized audience starts showing more interest in nicher products there could always be a few pop-up companies that don't charge the niche price, especially considering the niche buying these things are those with deep pockets, such as industry-level businesses which is why a lot of these cost so much for what they actually are.
I took an old lazyboy from my mom when she got a new one, removed the part from underneath my desk that slides out that holds the keybord and I just loosely placed that plank onto the arm rests of the lazyboy. It holds my keyboard with plenty of room for my mouse. I mounted my screens on two vesa mounts and voila. I have this but for 90% less money and I get to recline while gaming.
You could buy a cheap twin size adjustable bed frame and do some moding for less than 1k. Would likely end up being slightly smaller and easier to move around. I think that could be a cool DIY video for you guys to do.
This is good THIS IS GLORIOUS. Image of the perfectction I seek in hardware. Reliable and Simple The fact about not easily adjustable parts/everything on screws and bolts is actually a feature. why is it so? It means that it is definitely a lot less likely to break and even if it does so it is stupidly easy to repair. No moving parts equal more reliability goes up. no matter how much effort you put into the design of hinges they will always be the common failure point of all monitor stands, adjustable armrests, etc. there is mostly no way that the position you chose changes by accident like a sudden shake or unintended touch. So if you choose that one position that perfectly fits your position and locks into it and it stays permanent until you decide for it to be otherwise. It might be a hassle if you are one of those people that need to change their monitor position every 15 minutes, but the truth is you are one of those I will not respect your opinion as I see your kind as inferior also In this Cockpit you always sit/lay in the same position, that means your head is always in the same place and you don't even need the easy adjustment in the first place. Acuall only problem for me and probably most of other potential customers is the price. Four grand even tho cheap for such item is still unachiveable price for average joe and truth it there is no need for it to be so expensive. I could definitely see similar design in typical furniture store. It's just Bend steal pipes, plywood, screws, matress and a bit of self assembly. All we need to add is a weird name and it can send of to Ikea. I suspect that most of the price is fallout of it not being able to use economy of scale, as normal furniture do. To sum up what I meant. For me it would be perfect product. Simple, reliable. Only problem is the economics and I firmly belive that it would be popular in a "nishe scale" if it only were cheaper. BTW Writing this comment I reminded myself one idea I once had while having visit at hospital. It was there that I realised that perfect ergonomic station is not the desk or tremendously expensive cockpit, but hospital bed and here me out on this thing. Hospital beds are professional hardwere that means low failure rate. On top of that hyrraulics allowing dynamic position changes on demand, without engaging any of you muscles, but the real wild card is the cat that hospital beds can use attachments, like for instance table in front of patient and there is nothing holding you back to create custom one to hold you monitor just in front of you. AND I predict that in future that thing is going to be an actually product when millennial generation fainlly hits retirement homes.
This is actually the worst thing for your body and standard chair is much better since it forces you to fight gravity. I cant believe how wrong Linus is here. The more you use your muscles and strain your body when working - standing behind the desk, walking on treadmill and coding (that is a thing actually), the better. I mean it's common knowledge that moving and improvement of your muscles will lead to improved physical health.....
Easy solution for the height/slope adjustment of the whole frame: Replace the four-position support rack with a ratcheting wheel with the different heights arranged around it on a disc. Add a foot pedal to assist in elevating the frame while also disengaging the bottom from the height slot in the wheel; this pedal would lock when depressed, to prevent the frame from falling while the position wheel is rotating (alternatively, install a pair of pneumatic cylinders below the frame so that it would function identically to an office chair's height adjustment levers). Add a second pedal connected to the wheel to ratchet it to the next position. Push that pedal, then unlock the raising/lower pedal, and lower the frame back into the new position. For $4500, they damned well can afford a few levers, ratchets, and a couple pneumatic cylinders. This thing is a bunch of aluminum tubes and fittings. $450 would be a more reasonable asking price.
Let Alex attach a desk to the back of a recliner. So that the desk follows the upper body movement. And maybe utilize a garage door opener and the guide rail from one. To mount a big screen TV on. And whil your at it place it Infront of a window (facing Office/nature). And attache a blackout curtain underneath the TV. "Garage door" closed = tv towards the floor and Free view thru the window. "Garage door" half open = TV in front of window. "Garage door" 3/4 open = TV at 45° in the upper corner between wall and roof. "Garage door" fully open = TV in the roof above the reclainer blackout curtain cover's the window for privacy and light pollution control. Always a blast seeing Alex and Linus trying janky stuff. No matter how it works...
13:00 - Linus said that they did not recreate the "world's most comfortable gaming setup" when they moved to the new house. Also Linus: Completely forgets the theater room and comfortable seats which could easily also play games in as well. That room was probably even better for gaming, especially with the surround sound and comfy seats. The fact it doubles as the theater room (which I know was it's main purpose) is even better.
I have a recliner, TV and a lapdesk setup. Wireless keyboard/mouse with a nightstand side table. Very comfortable. I'd keep that over this "cockpit" any day.
To all the people complaining about the price. Here is my 3 cents: 1: No one is forcing you to buy one. If you can build one yourself, you are more chad than buying one, so go do it already. 2. You say "i can do it for 500 bucks" but as someone who works from desk and have zero experience with metalwork and machine work(although I did do blacksmithing a bit for fun with someone at the forge, but that doesn't translate over to machining), it would cost A LOT more than 500 bucks for me to try to learn how to do this kind of stuff. Most people who want a cockpit ain't the mechanical types either. 3. My time is valuable. I can make more than 4000 bucks during the days I try to spend building a custom cockpit(I am estimating 14 days+ as I will need to learn machine work and get materials fitted), so it is economically stupid for me to try to make one myself for 500 bucks when I can buy it for 4000. 4. To be honest, even though the site says the shipping is free, I think it is pretty expensive to ship something like this, so the actual product might not be that expensive but they dumb AF and tried to pull a "free shipping" marketing trick.
This is similar to my gaming bed setup. In bed I have a 55" tv used as a monitor, all the adjustment you see on that thing can be done with my average electrical bed, Been using that for 11+ years and it's a dream.
Liked for the stormtrooper. This product's concept seems good, but personally I just use a motorized recliner with a 32 inch monitor on a monitor arm attached to a side table. It costs less that this product, and you can change positions and lumbar support at the touch of a button. My recliner can lean back and become completely flat for times when I need to stretch and don't feel like getting out of the chair.

If it were me, I would just start with a nice full recliner and then build around it. That eliminates a big problem with these things and that is they are often impossible to hop in and out of and that is what makes them useless to have. I'm curious how you more true builders would go about it.

I strongly suspect a much better option for these is going to be something like a medical recliner (meant for people getting chemotherapy/dialysis for many hours a day) where you can add peripherals like a monitor arm and a swiveling lap desk (to which you could attach an ergo keyboard tray with a tilting mouse part rather than the stock wood). I suspect the cost would actually be pretty similar too, and while the design might be more hospital chic than gamer, the many of designs for them aren't terrible these days definitely blend in better with a living room/standard office (some are kinda Mid Century Modern or Swedish minimalism even for those swanky doctors offices).

I splurged on an Uplift desk about a year ago and also bought a small under-desk things with pedals (to "bike" while you're sitting in the chair) and a Urevo treadmill so that I can walk and stand while at the desk. It's made a WORLD of difference for me. Yeah, I paid quite a lot of money for it, well outside my budget, but since I'm a developer (or rather, "soon to be" developer), I spend so much time at the computer that I want to be able to sit, stand, bike, and walk while still working at the desk. Typing while walking took some getting used to but now I'm actually able to code really efficiently while walking, and it forces me to stay more focused on my work. It's helped me lose weight and not get cramps, boredom, or antsiness from immobility. I definitely recommend it if you can afford it. I even do gaming now while on the treadmill or biking and it actually helps me quite a lot.
Just curious, how tall are you? As I stand 6'3" (190.5 cm) finding a standing desk that I can use when just standing is difficult at best, so just curious about that part for yourself. As any treadmill adds a few more inches too. thanks!

I have a recliner and an Airdesk, so I basically have a super-budget cockpit. I'll admit that the 'dis-incentivises getting up' is fair. It's very comfy though, and I don't have to deal with pleather. I adjusted to reclined gaming very easily, but then I also have an extra little arm-rest table for a gamepad on my left side. It makes me feel like a starship pilot.

The problem with things sliding could be fixed with an LTT mouse mat and a GN mod-mat for the keyboard. I wish a company would offer a truly affordable option for more people to incorporate into their gaming or work station. The materials are really not that expensive for a company if the parts were all ordered by using bulk sourcing each part. Thanks for sharing the unit because it was a great episode.
You can lock the table at any angle you wish. They missed that although it says so in the manual. The idea is you pick and angle where it almost slides. Same goes for the mouse table. When shifting positions you are meant to readjust the table as well to a flatter angle so that nothing slides. Yes, it is a pain in the butt to do so each time but most people tend to stick to one position after they play around for a while. Also keep in mind that motors eventually break, this won't.
@@LevusWorkstation when you make the price so high for this kind of product your target is someone who usually can afford to spend more money than 4k, so take note of every problem ltt pointed out, solve them, make it super easy and practical to use. Then you can cover the additional costs selling it at a higher cost. Anyway, don't forget that everyone will see that it is " a combination of tubes and tables that costs as much as a car" so maybe trying to keep the price as low as possible would make it even more succesful.

Making it look more expensive and or easier will simply make it more expensive and or create a new problem. Believe me we tried. Everything has a cost, you add this then that has to be changed as well, and then the other thing wont fit into those things etc... It is really hard to balance all those interconnected elements. But I do appreciate the input. And we do listen. It's just all not as simple as it might first seem.

I love the concept of those style of cockpit. But I keep coming to the same thing you said near the end: get a recliner. It's pretty easy to build a frame to hold a VESA-mount screen(s) and jury rig a lap desk or laptop stand for your control set.
Honestly I love this idea. The other option is recliner and monitors mounted to a normal desk or wall mount.
I have an Autoful gaming chair that reclines and a decent foot stool to put my feet on and use a lap desk or a controller. Helps my chronic pain massively compared to sitting upright.

I took a LG TV and put it on the cealing. It's inclined towards the bed and the pc is wired to it via hdmi. Sitting in the bed with a small pillow and looking at the TV that's now the monitor has helped me to relax my back since I also have back problems but I also must work a lot at the computer computer daily. Best decision ever, it's so comfortable in the bed.
My best friend has an unbelievable amount of back pain due to a car accident when she was young. She has a very comfortable gaming setup where she plays all her PC games while relaxing on a recliner. She also uses a 55 inch LG C2 as the display.
Controllers for gaming and a keyboard/trackpad combo for navigating the desktop. She doesn’t work here at all, but it has done an amazing job at making her comfortable. She loves to play games again now that her back isn’t in constant pain sitting at a desk.
And it doesn’t take up a lot of space. PC gaming doesn’t have to be just desks and office chairs. It can be relaxing and comfortable. Personally, I play all my PC games from the couch and I’ve never been happier because I’m so comfortable

I have been using a recliner at my desk for a *while* now and I love it. Way more comfy than my old office chair, and because I've got a pull-out keyboard tray I can still type with relative ease (though I do normally just set my keyboard on my lap if I'm going to be using it for a long time). The only concession I've had to make is switching to a trackball, since a mouse would basically need a lap board.
I don't think I'll ever go back to a normal office chair. This is just so much more comfortable.
How's your monitor situation? Doesn't it need to be adjusted if you move the chair rest?
As someone with severe spine issues, this concept is awesome. I’m actually in the process of making a DIY version with an ergonomic recliner and wall mounted swing arms for monitors and keyboards trays. But I actually do a lot of work from home.
Another thing to note about this genre of products is that it's not just marketed towards people chasing the most ergonomic setup possible. It's also a way for people that wouldn't otherwise be able to use a full fledged desktop setup. I suffered a work injury that has made sitting upright in a chair for more than an hour so painful that it's just not possible. If I had the money to afford it, I would have bought one these a long time ago so that I could actually use the PC that I spent 2.5k on and built, but barely get to enjoy. Obviously, not everyone can afford to drop 10k on a desk and chair replacement. So I really appreciate that there are companies trying to lower the barrier for entry for one of these. They are a literal life changer for some people, even if they don't have all the features of one that is double the price.

@@Shadow0fd3ath24 That's exactly what I did. A Lafuma recliner, alongside a desk (not feet under, 90degrees to how you would normally sit). Then bolted my monitor arm to the front of the desk so that one monitor hung out front over my chair and the other was over the desk for stability - need to make sure the desk will not tip forward! Bought a cheap laptop table on wheels from Amazon to put the keyboard and trackpad on (a mouse is not easy to use on a sloping desk). Worked a treat!
The nice thing about the recliner chair is it will fold down and go in the boot of a car. So I have a 'portable' setup, where I have a decent boom microphone stand with an iPad holder designed to fit the 1/2 inch mic mount thread and a Logitech bluetooth keyboard, so I can get a comfortable set up on the road or outside even on a nice day!

@@itranscendencei7964 no probs, there was a lot of trial and error but things I found out:
- Monitor needs to be fixed separately from the chair or it will move annoyingly when you shift position.
- Ergotron do a handle kit for their monitor arms - this stops you putting too much pressure on the monitor mount when moving the screen about.
- Thomann is where I got the boom mic stand and tablet holder, don't cheap out, get a decent heavy one like K&M. I tried those sprung loaded desk mount cheapo ones off Amazon and they were not substantial enough for regular use.
- Options for the keyboard/pointing device are:
- Keyboard and trackpad tray on your lap (this is what I use now)
- Some sort of laptop table, I used one with wheels that was designed to go under a bed/sofa, but crucially, it needs to have a table surface where the angle can be adjusted.
- Ergotron do a keyboard arm, not tried it, but it looks a good option.
- A mouse is not very easy to use with this set up, when it's not flopping about all over the place, you are constantly pushing it 'uphill' on the angled table which gets tiring. For a table, I found I had to stick the keyboard and trackpad down with velcro, to stop them shifting about. I used a trackball successfully too, but never really found one that had a page scrolling mechanism that I got on with. Best to try the keyboard on your lap first and see how you get on, as that is by far the easiest to set up.
Eventually I did end up spending a small fortune to get a setup in my lounge, as the garden relining chair looked at bit out of place! I settled on an Ergotron XL monitor arm, with a wall mount fixing and handle kit. This holds an iMac, that when pushed back against the wall just looks a bit like a wall mount TV. Then I got a nice recliner chair, a Varier Peel, which looks super funky, is comfortable for me and allows a bit of movement like a rocking chair. However, if I was to do this again, I would probably go for something like the human touch perfect chair, as it's a bit cheaper and seemed very robust when I tried it.

I went the cheaper and Far more comfortable route ... a Lazyboy recliner and 6 monitors and a 50" screen too . FNot paying 5k for a tubed seat with monitor mount . I payed 67$ for a triple monitor stand and 50$ for a dual and mounted them together for a 5 screen wall and slid my 50 in ther mix and another side screen . Setup an awesome gaming/vr sim setup for about 350$ at most . Ghettos fab is how i roll .

When used to work for census dept in early 2000’s….the data entry computers were in stations that would start sitting in chair and than pressing a button and would go to zero grav “laying” position that really was SICK AS HECK! Very comfy, ergonomic, no stress on neck, arms, hands, etc….and made entering in all that census data, pretty easy and fun. Only downside, when worked 3rd shift and was 4 am, the only issues is, might fall asleep in the launch station, as “we called them”, as it felt like we were going into space from all the tech each “work station” actually had, it really was a sick setup; and know they were cheap.
This is something that's interesting to me, as someone who spend a significant portion of their time basically bedbound, including working on computers. It's a pain, and it's remarkably difficult to get right, or even workable frankly. Given any other options, even when they will have substantial physical consequences, I will always choose to work sitting up. There are very few body positions that work with a mattress that's that shape and the inability to make even slight adjustments to my position becomes a real problem.
Have you tried using Talon for Voice? There are many of us who have needed to work from bed and offloading some of the work to voice rather than typing improves the ergonomics of such a set up dramatically.

I personally just bought an deals that can also change to a standing desk. This is much more handy as I can walk around my home office and look out of the window for example. Also if I need to work on a major incident at the middle of the night.. I would just fall asleep in that thing lol
There's nothing inherently wrong with setups like this, it is just more ways of living within our problems instead of getting up and stretching and taking a break.
I'd assume that using a normal chair, switching positions sometimes and getting up every now and then is probably healthier than laying down for 16 hours a day

I WFH from my hammock with my wall mounted TV. My keyboard rests on the edges of the hammock (it's actually very stable), and my trackball mouse is on a little table at the perfect height to the side. This just seems like a less comfortable version of what I already do, with a smaller screen.
Edit: Wtf, $4,000 for some bent metal tubes, some stamped/formed sheet metal, and some upholstery foam? My entire setup ran me just over half that. $1800 for the TV, $120 for a quality wall mount, $100 to pay someone to mount this monstrosity, $80 for the hammock, and like $20 for a foam pad to line it with for extra comfort.

As a personal trainer, I will say this reclined desk is not a good idea for the long term; your body staying in a permanently relaxed position will cause many more problems (e.g. muscle atrophy) in the long term, albeit it is more comfortable. An ideal sitting position is a neutral spine and slightly leaned back, but moving around and playing with your posture throughout the day is much more important than staying in place the whole day (see peer reviews). This desk has in uncanny resemblance to Wall-E and will hopefully not be the future. Get a stand/sit desk and move around/stretch when possible!

The most comfortable computer chair I ever had was indeed a recliner. It was leather with wide, fairly flat arms and I had a small table on the right. Styles have changed in furniture and sadly I've not seen a recliner with arms like that for a long time. I wore that thing out and never could find a really good replacement. so now I'm in one with wide arms but they are rounded at the top so that I must have a table to one side or the mouse will roll into the floor when I let go of it.
No need for a monitor stand built onto some contraption, just make it a table, desk, etc. your feet fit under when its reclined and set it just far enough back so you can get in and out of it. Works better than you'd think. With todays huge monitors there is no real need to have them right up at your nose.

This thing kinda reminds me of the original super-reclined “chairs” the helm and navigation stations had on the Enterprise in Star Trek: TNG. I know they were designed to look comfy and futuristic, but they were updated later on to be less…weird. (The original chairs didn’t swivel, so you kinda had to tuck-in.)

I want to see LTT get a tour of ErgoQuest, I'm not sure if they have a showroom or not, but they have some absolute monstrosities of ZG workstations. When it comes down to usability, ease of getting in and out, size, and lack of jank, I think their 6, 7, 11, and 12 might be the best fits, though part of me also does like their 8; 0 is a mixed bag for me as its footprint is more adjustable to the monitor setup (1 to 3, adjustable width, etc.) and seems like a one size fits all situation (on the smaller end I like it more and would consider it with the aforementioned models), 1 is just too large, 2 doesn't seem bad but seems cumbersome (one side is chair, the other is standing, all the joints compensate for this rotation), 3 and 4 (identical) are again just a bit large but don't seem bad, 5 is another sit-stand desk and I just think it has a weird footprint, 9 confuses me with it's desk behind the keyboard tray and I'm not sure why it exists, 10 is an entire hemisphere cockpit that rotates within a frame and I don't understand it at all, 13 and 14 are again just too big for practicality, and 15 is an entire gantry above the powered ZG chair. There's also the Ultimate (why break from the number model now?) which I don't dislike the concept of, I think it's just a bit too large, but if they adapt this model to a more reasonable size it'd be nice. The number naming model is also a bit confusing and inconsistent, they even get it incorrect from time to time, such as a video calling the 6 a 9, 1 gets thrown around in some 0 naming, etc. The one thing I don't like about ErgoQuest's products is how slow they are, and how the unmotorized components seem to just be free-floating, unmotorized components need a releasable friction clutch so that they just don't fling around if bumped, and motorized components should be much faster; if not adapting the clutch idea, motor-assisted free movement, clutch release button would also be the motor button, apply enough motor holding force so that a heavy arm doesn't crash down under gravity but not be so heavy that a user couldn't move the arm freely.
I think ZG and cohesive workstation products could be a series, there's a lot of options to explore, everyone has a seemingly different implementation of them. I think in the case of companies like ErgoQuest and the costs of these things visiting a showroom of a company, distributor, or store is the best method of showcasing them, maybe there's a way to properly review them via a month-long rental or something. There's also even DIY projects, I've seen desks converted to fold down to work with ZG chairs, I've seen someone put a ZG lawnchair onto a makeshift furniture dolly with some added rails to keep the chair aligned, I've seen various arms added to chairs, various floor stands used, etc., so there's also potential in the Alex department of jankery when it comes to DIY solutions. ZG products and cohesive workstations don't really have much exposure outside of the niche market that's looking for them anyways, it'd be nice to see more generalized creators giving them more exposure, because if the generalized audience starts showing more interest in nicher products there could always be a few pop-up companies that don't charge the niche price, especially considering the niche buying these things are those with deep pockets, such as industry-level businesses which is why a lot of these cost so much for what they actually are.
I took an old lazyboy from my mom when she got a new one, removed the part from underneath my desk that slides out that holds the keybord and I just loosely placed that plank onto the arm rests of the lazyboy. It holds my keyboard with plenty of room for my mouse. I mounted my screens on two vesa mounts and voila. I have this but for 90% less money and I get to recline while gaming.
A chair like this would be ideal for playing VR flight sims. Can't think of any other uses, but that one came to mind pretty effortlessly.

Thing is, you turn this into a couch and you got something alot of people might buy, once it's more user friendly.
You could buy a cheap twin size adjustable bed frame and do some moding for less than 1k. Would likely end up being slightly smaller and easier to move around. I think that could be a cool DIY video for you guys to do.

The fact about not easily adjustable parts/everything on screws and bolts is actually a feature. why is it so?
It means that it is definitely a lot less likely to break and even if it does so it is stupidly easy to repair. No moving parts equal more reliability goes up. no matter how much effort you put into the design of hinges they will always be the common failure point of all monitor stands, adjustable armrests, etc.
there is mostly no way that the position you chose changes by accident like a sudden shake or unintended touch. So if you choose that one position that perfectly fits your position and locks into it and it stays permanent until you decide for it to be otherwise. It might be a hassle if you are one of those people that need to change their monitor position every 15 minutes, but the truth is you are one of those I will not respect your opinion as I see your kind as inferior
also In this Cockpit you always sit/lay in the same position, that means your head is always in the same place and you don't even need the easy adjustment in the first place.
Acuall only problem for me and probably most of other potential customers is the price. Four grand even tho cheap for such item is still unachiveable price for average joe and truth it there is no need for it to be so expensive. I could definitely see similar design in typical furniture store. It's just Bend steal pipes, plywood, screws, matress and a bit of self assembly. All we need to add is a weird name and it can send of to Ikea. I suspect that most of the price is fallout of it not being able to use economy of scale, as normal furniture do.
To sum up what I meant. For me it would be perfect product. Simple, reliable. Only problem is the economics and I firmly belive that it would be popular in a "nishe scale" if it only were cheaper.

Writing this comment I reminded myself one idea I once had while having visit at hospital. It was there that I realised that perfect ergonomic station is not the desk or tremendously expensive cockpit, but hospital bed and here me out on this thing. Hospital beds are professional hardwere that means low failure rate. On top of that hyrraulics allowing dynamic position changes on demand, without engaging any of you muscles, but the real wild card is the cat that hospital beds can use attachments, like for instance table in front of patient and there is nothing holding you back to create custom one to hold you monitor just in front of you. AND I predict that in future that thing is going to be an actually product when millennial generation fainlly hits retirement homes.
This is actually the worst thing for your body and standard chair is much better since it forces you to fight gravity. I cant believe how wrong Linus is here. The more you use your muscles and strain your body when working - standing behind the desk, walking on treadmill and coding (that is a thing actually), the better. I mean it's common knowledge that moving and improvement of your muscles will lead to improved physical health.....
Easy solution for the height/slope adjustment of the whole frame: Replace the four-position support rack with a ratcheting wheel with the different heights arranged around it on a disc. Add a foot pedal to assist in elevating the frame while also disengaging the bottom from the height slot in the wheel; this pedal would lock when depressed, to prevent the frame from falling while the position wheel is rotating (alternatively, install a pair of pneumatic cylinders below the frame so that it would function identically to an office chair's height adjustment levers). Add a second pedal connected to the wheel to ratchet it to the next position. Push that pedal, then unlock the raising/lower pedal, and lower the frame back into the new position.
For $4500, they damned well can afford a few levers, ratchets, and a couple pneumatic cylinders. This thing is a bunch of aluminum tubes and fittings. $450 would be a more reasonable asking price.
Let Alex attach a desk to the back of a recliner. So that the desk follows the upper body movement. And maybe utilize a garage door opener and the guide rail from one. To mount a big screen TV on. And whil your at it place it Infront of a window (facing Office/nature). And attache a blackout curtain underneath the TV. "Garage door" closed = tv towards the floor and Free view thru the window.
"Garage door" half open = TV in front of window.
"Garage door" 3/4 open = TV at 45° in the upper corner between wall and roof.
"Garage door" fully open = TV in the roof above the reclainer blackout curtain cover's the window for privacy and light pollution control.

Also Linus: Completely forgets the theater room and comfortable seats which could easily also play games in as well. That room was probably even better for gaming, especially with the surround sound and comfy seats. The fact it doubles as the theater room (which I know was it's main purpose) is even better.
I have a recliner, TV and a lapdesk setup. Wireless keyboard/mouse with a nightstand side table. Very comfortable. I'd keep that over this "cockpit" any day.

This is extremely strong, stable and durable solution! For any number of monitors. Actually tested for at least 1 year!
To all the people complaining about the price. Here is my 3 cents:
1: No one is forcing you to buy one. If you can build one yourself, you are more chad than buying one, so go do it already.
2. You say "i can do it for 500 bucks" but as someone who works from desk and have zero experience with metalwork and machine work(although I did do blacksmithing a bit for fun with someone at the forge, but that doesn't translate over to machining), it would cost A LOT more than 500 bucks for me to try to learn how to do this kind of stuff. Most people who want a cockpit ain't the mechanical types either.
3. My time is valuable. I can make more than 4000 bucks during the days I try to spend building a custom cockpit(I am estimating 14 days+ as I will need to learn machine work and get materials fitted), so it is economically stupid for me to try to make one myself for 500 bucks when I can buy it for 4000.
4. To be honest, even though the site says the shipping is free, I think it is pretty expensive to ship something like this, so the actual product might not be that expensive but they dumb AF and tried to pull a "free shipping" marketing trick.

This is similar to my gaming bed setup. In bed I have a 55" tv used as a monitor, all the adjustment you see on that thing can be done with my average electrical bed, Been using that for 11+ years and it's a dream.

Liked for the stormtrooper. This product's concept seems good, but personally I just use a motorized recliner with a 32 inch monitor on a monitor arm attached to a side table. It costs less that this product, and you can change positions and lumbar support at the touch of a button. My recliner can lean back and become completely flat for times when I need to stretch and don't feel like getting out of the chair.
