      There could be several other reasons such as, a mental fear of being crushed under a heavy bench after watching several videos on social media where a guy gets trapped under a heavy loaded bar and then have to tilt side ways to get the weights off of the barbell. Having a spotter seem to have helped me overcome that and attempt next PR.
      Another reason could be weaker Triceps.
      Or instability in shoulder joint Or a muscle imbalance. My left side feels a bit unstable and weaker when I do any kind of pressing movements.

    I agree with everything in this video! My Top chest exercises for myself are: Barbell flat bench press, Barbell Low incline press, Dumbbell flat chest fly, Dumbbell Low incline chest fly, Cable chest flys (high to low), the pec dec machine and deficit pushups. I dont do all 8 every chest day I only pick 4-5 and rotate. You wont see high angled presses here or dips because I save that for shoulder-tricep day

    10 11 years ago I was doing High Incline Smith Machine Press, superset with the high incline rotating dumbell press, and this can work in whatever degree, with Barbell (or Smith), superset with similar movement on the halteres, can be a press or fly. Also you can do a fly movement or the cable crossover, superset with dips or presses.
    Examples of supersets:
    1: Barbell or Smith Press (incline, flat) with a dumbell press or fly
    2: any kinda Cable Croosver, superset with DIPS (or vice versa).
    3: Decline Bench Press, superset with decline dumbell pullover.
    BONUS: High Incline Press, superset with a high incline Arnold's Shoulder Press.

    • @tiinan375
      @tiinan375 Рік тому

      Absolutely HS plate loaded chest machines are amazing. IMO best chest exercises are BB, DB and HS presses. Once you find the right set up for HS presses they’re better than all other options

  • @shaftsburry1773
    @shaftsburry1773 Рік тому +1

    Good video.
    I will say that, in general, if you have a machine that just works great for you and you go to that gym frequently, then use it if it works for you.
    However, I always agree that you should have proficiency in the basic moments that can be done anywhere. Incline dumbbell flies in particular are my bread and butter fly movement every chest day, just a fantastic exercise.
    I would also recommend things such as a cable crossover or fly. Most places have cables, and they do give a great range of motion and a great squeeze because gravity isn't an issue.
    A controversial take is that I think pullovers can be good on chest workouts, though mostly if you do the old chest/back day training splits. Not a mass builder like a bench press, but it has utility in my experience.
    Keep up the good work, Peter.

    The main problem with the flat bench or incline bench press is that people who weren't blessed with decent elbows and joints will eventually incur pain in said places. Everyone eventually does or has to drop the weight considerably.
    Also although I will preface that I am nowhere near jacked, many bodybuilders have voiced there are machines for the chest better than free weights such as the prime chest machines and the flex leverage press machines.

    • @wigletron2846
      @wigletron2846 Рік тому

      A huge advantage to machines is being able to grind out reps. Unless you have a good spotter, this is difficult with free weight presses. But the free weight presses are the best way to build a foundation. But they do lead to lots of wear and tear.

    • @darthghitza8037
      @darthghitza8037 Рік тому

      I agree. This is why you need variation in your training. You can’t just do flat bench twice a week with 225+ for years. You need to use other exercises. While bench is definitely the no 1 exercise for chest… it does have it’s drawbacks.
