I've decided on using Eufy for my home monitoring/security needs and your videos have been invaluable for making decisions on what to get. Thanks a ton for taking the time.
The significant issue with Eufy "security" is that the wireless cameras will go offline randomly. I 've had my five Eufycam 2 and three Homebase2 for nearly two years, and cameras will go offline and come back online randomly and for varying lengths of time. Homebases are not moved, cameras are mounted, and weather conditions are not a factor. For example, a particular camera (which has a strong wifi connection and is less than 20ft away) may go offline for just a couple of minutes and come back online without me "interfering," and other times it could be a month. Rebooting the appropriate HB does not help. In the end, Eufy does not really provide reliable security. In spite of this, I got a wireless doorbell recently.
You did an excellent job comparing the wired and battery version of the eufy doorbell cameras. This was the best review of these doorbell cameras that I have seen. Keep up the good work. Your service is appreciated.
Since eufy seems to contact you I am leaving my questions comments on your video. 1. I would purchase a PoE eufy doorbell if available. I install a lot of Ring Elite because of this feature. 2. They need to update their software to automatically delete old recordings after X number of days (user selectable). In order to delete old recordings you have to go day by day, which is not friendly. Otherwise I have had my eufy doorbell for about 2 years and it is great. Thank you for the video review and hopefully eufy gets my message.
The recording of both sides of the conversation is a must-have. I am leaning toward the battery option since the recordings can be saved in my house in the homebase unit. The wired version can be ripped off the wall and the SD card goes with it.
That is a major downside of the wired doorbell. Eufy is working on getting it to also record and be integrated with the base station..I’m hoping it will be updates soon.
As others have stated, you should do a follow-up review between the wired version and the battery version (but using wire instead of battery). Then do some of the tests again eg live streaming
Your son is a very well mannered young man. So promising to see that in this day and age! *Awesome* Thanks for your thorough review, it was very informative.
Thanks for your comparison. I'm glad I ordered the wired doorbell after watching your reviews. I wish Eufy would update their wired doorbell and add IFTTT integration.
Excellent side-by-side comparison. I’m especially impressed by the way eufy has contacted you so quickly and is so willing to work to improve their products. I have the wired version and I am very happy with it especially since it has improved so much since I purchased it... I have to wonder if not recording both sides of the conversation has something to do with privacy concerns? I was hoping that the wired doorbell would be Apple HomeKit compatible but it never will be according to eufy. Eufy Did however tell me that the battery doorbell will be Apple HomeKit compatible soon... The eufy cam 2’s are HomeKit compatible and working well
Most video doorbells have this issue..not recording both sides and I don’t think it is I because of privacy. Ring always have these feature on their cameras and Nest took a year to update the Nest Hello to record both sides. I think it is from where these companies by their chipset which is probably from one manufacturer. Thank you.
LifeHackster - Are there any video doorbells that are Homekit compatible? For years, ring promised they were going to work with HomeKit but it never came to pass. Eufy “says” Homekit is coming to the eufy battery doorbell but not the wired version... Apple doesn’t even allow the watermark time date stamp on the eufy cam 2’s. It gets removed as soon as you add them to HomeKit for privacy. I really don’t think Apple is going to allow two sided conversations to be recorded due to privacy concerns.
Eufy have definitely been working on some of the issues you identified such as streaming the live feed to the Echo Show from the battery doorbell. Would be nice to see a video update regarding this.
First I'll say thank you for another awesome video, especially on eufy I'm super excited about this product. I need it be better integrated with such as SmartThings, IFTTT etc as standard throughout their ecosystem. When issues are fixed I have about 11 to 12 households to recommend this product to. I agree with your review LifeHackster! I'm counting a delay 3 to 4 second delay from son to Dad with a reply... it needs to be much better also the video quality. Some added features and customization with the unit( also other product lines cam2, cam 2c, and storage base) would definitely make this product stand out even more!
My understanding is that the battery version wired up all it does is charge the batteries (no need to re-charge them... ever!). No difference otherwise.
Audio sounded better on the wired version while the battery version showed a slightly better image , however I do think that the Frame per second can be improved to show a less choppy image during motion.
I posted this message to another UT channel, but thought I'd post it to yours too. Enjoyed the video very much. Great job. I did want to tell you that I've had the Eufy Doorbell for about 6 months now in between many others, but this is my second one. It is constantly missing alot, and Eufy replaced it about 3 months ago saying that it might have been defective, but this one is doing the same. I will leave the house, it picks-up nothing, but catches me coming home. The mail comes with a HUGH, I did say Hugh RIGHT ? TRUCKS parking out front delivering multiple packages making several trips, and it never showed anything until the third trip walking away with 8 boxes sitting there like WHERE DID THOSE COME FROM? This happens several times a week, and sometimes in a day. I've had MANY Doorbells starting with Ring, SkyBell, Kangaroo(JUNK), Ezviz, Nest Hello, Remo-W, Arlo(NOT Worth it). Eufy is my favorite but I'm still looking because it misses to much, and that could be really bad. I did order a New Wize Doorbell because I've been using there cameras for years hoping it's as great as there camera's that I've been using outside for over a year in the snow ,and rain that are NOT even out door cameras, but still working beautiful at the cheapest cost I've ever seen for all they have. Anyway thanks for the video.
Thanks for the video. I have watched several other videos by you on Eufy cameras. Although it seems impressive Eufy is responsive to your tests, I am concerned about why does a company with probably millions in a R&D department can't figure these issues before it gets to the consumer. These issues are pretty common sense concepts. Why can't their engineers think through these issues? I was planning on investing on a complete camera and doorbell system from Eufy but think I will wait until something else better comes along either from Eufy or another manufacturer. Thanks again for taking the time to make these videos.
Thank you for this review sir. I spoke to Eufy's customer service before, and I was informed they are not adding the option to record both conservations as of now. If only Eufy would record both conversations, that felt like a deal breaker for me. The feature is a necessity for security reasons.
@@Nigel__ I actually love my Eufy camera, my only real complain is that I couldn’t use my existing doorbell chime. I had to use there plug in chime, its not loud as my hard wired chimed. I do love the fact that I don’t have to pay for a monthly subscription. I have travelled to different parts of Louisiana and have gotten notification on who’s on the front door. Highly recommend it if you want no monthly subscription and or what to add it to your HomeKit ecosystem!
Great job on this video! I love these kind of hands-on practical reviews. What is the day time motion range on these doorbells? Does motion/person have to be within a certain distance before the camera picks it up? I have a rather long driveway and I'd like to be able to start recording well before they get to my door. Also, the wired doorbell storing footage within the doorbell (which can easily be stolen) and the battery doorbell storing footage in the home base (inside the house, therefore, much more secure) is a huge difference.
Great and very detailed video! I have one question though, I don't suppose Eufy have advised you if/when they will release the battery doorbell on it's own? It seems like an obvious move to me as they must have 1,000s of customers already with a security system running from HomeBase 2 and just want to add the doorbell!
Excellent as always, gonna get the battery when avail in Europe. Looking forward to the eufycam 2 vs 2c comparison soon then my life will be perfect 😀😀
LifeHackster, thank you for your in-depth reviews. I just installed the Eufy floodlight camera today and I am so happy that I chose this. I chose this brand because I watched your video review and pulled the trigger. I have a Google Nest Hello doorbell in my room and I am thinking about replacing it with the Eufy doorbell. The subscription-free service is such a big seller for me and I wouldn't have known about it without your help. Thank you for sharing your knowledge to the world man.
What would you recommend, the wired or getting the battery powered version and still wiring it? In this video the wired version seemed to have better quality overall but I like how the battery powered version sends recordings to the home base.
New subscriber, very informative, have been interested in Eufy doorbell for a minute, now will consider more of their products. Thank u, and your son for his assistance.
Did Eufy fix any of those issues mentioned towards the end of the video? I didn't see in the description whether any of those glitches have been fixed almost 2 years later, yet they're still selling this same battery model version on Amazon.
Great content. Very comprehensive. It's just a little difficult to consider current capabilities based on ongoing/updated software/firmware releases. This comment is 1 year after video.
The ideal would be if Eufy created one like the first door bell that communicated with the 16gb accessory that sits inside of the house. On one hand you have the one that has the battery capability and bigger storage that is kept safe inside of the house, but the door bell is pretty bulky; on the other hand you have one that looks sleek but has a small storage which is located on the machine itself. I was thinking about buying the bulky one due to the bigger storage that is kept inside of the house, now that they fixed the issues that you mentioned. However, I am concerned that a few months later, they release a new one that is sleek like the first one and can communicate with the 16gb device, then I will be stuck with the bulky one.
Has Eufy updated to allow saving of video from the wired doorbell to the base station yet? Any improvements with the fps? Debating getting one of these doorbells and a couple of the Cam Es or the Cam2s.
There is a major security flaw in Eufy doorbells. They can be removed from the wall too easily and if a theif was to take it off and press the reset button on the back it deletes all of the data on the base station. Really surprised that no reviewers have raised this as it makes the doorbell not fit for its purpose.
You answered my question with regard to them making the HomeBase compatible with the wired version. I will wait for this as the Ring2 doorbell I currently have is a piece of junk!
You might be able to help me with the detection. I only installed the battery unit earlier this week and I found out that the recording starts only when a person is a couple of meters from the bell. I would like to have the recording started a bit earlier. Eufy should remove the doorbell from sleep mode when it is wired as the sleep mode not only effects detection range, but also in the delay issues. The battery doorbell already recognises whether it is connected to the battery or wired as it is shown by the little icon on the apps.
i agree. that would be a big improvement and could add the 3 second so it would be even quicker than the wired version at capture and recording. Having the battery in there only for power outage security.
Great comparison between the 2 Eufy doorbells. They seem to load video after a doorbell acceptably enough. One of my frustrations with the current Ring Pro I have is it takes some time to load after a doorbell press, especially when I’m away from home on mobile data. Sometimes the person has left or is leaving. How would you compare these to a Ring Pro in your experience?
You always have great detailed content. Is there a feature for these doorbell cameras; on button press to automatically show live feed on echo show or google smart display? If so how is the response time/delay?
I use Google home hub and eufy wired video door bell. Once you link both just ask Google to show your front door it will appear on your Google home hub.
Well after I installed the the battery model and tested it, with the delay in the audio, I thought I had a defective unit. After viewing this video I realize the delay audio is a problem with all the units. Come on Eufy fix this problem, I'm tired of saying "Do you hear me?"
So i still can't decide wired or battery. I have the battery one installed and have been tested for a week. Battery is bad (last me 5 days). Recordings mostly show the delivery guy's back. I will install the power wire so battery will not be the problem soon. On the other hand, i bought the wired version hoping it may help with the recordings (hope to see the delivery guy's face). After watching this comparison video, *somehow i think the Battery one is better picture and motion sensing. *16GB vs 4GB storage? *Storage insides the house vs storage on the doorbell itself? *The hub may gain external usb storage in the future. *3 seconds pre recording doesn't seem to make any different for the wired version. Both show the same recording in this test video. *What happen when the battery is dead after its lifespan is over? Even though, the power wire plugs in but it only use to charge the battery insides.
Awesome review. These are two doorbells we are considering. I need to upgrade my transformer but I am curious on the real world results of the battery model for battery life…with features set to a realistic setting. Wired seems like the better option but the wireless has the Sony sensor and wired version says 2K but doesn’t indicate Sony sensor. Really trying to decide between these two. Don’t really want to pay monthly fees. The WUUK did catch my eye as well. Seems like an interesting option. Any information or thoughts are welcomed!
Does the eufy battery powered doorbell has the same screw locations as the ring doorbell 3? I need a replacement but don't want to drill more holes in the brick.
The video quality on the wired 2K doorbell looks much better than what is was when you first reviewed it (updates?). I'm trying to decide between the wired Eufy 2K & the Ring Pro 2. The fact that a subscription is not required with the Eufy is a plus, however as storage is within the doorbell & is not combatiable with the Homebase its a negative should it be stolen or damaged. Ring Pro 2 looks to have a slightly better video quality than the wired Eufy 2K.
Great video, a few questions please. #1 The battery version (wired) would basically be a battery backup for power failure? #2 So with the base unit being on UPS and the camera and base being on its own network your security system will never go down because local loss of power or Internet, I.e your gateway has to be on UPS also. True? Could that be part of your next review? #3 pairing more than one camera with a base unit? #4 adding a chime unit to existing base unit? #5 16 GB micro SD isn't very big, can the base unit accept a bigger SD card.? #6 is there a time limit on how long video is stored or is the new video rolled over the oldest video captured.? Sorry if some of these topics were covered in the comments thread but I didn't see them so I am asking. BTW. You picked up a new subscriber today...!...
Very nice comparison video! LifeHackster, are you planning to review the new 5-day continuous recording 2K video doorbell, and do a comparison with these 2? That would be awesome, given the 5-day one just came out, but costs $70 or so more, trying to figure out if it’s worth it.
If i hardwire the battery version do I will still have de delay compared to the wired version ? Maybe a stupid question but from what i see the battery version have a better quality image and more loud Thanks
Hi. Do you know if your wireless doorbell is able to record still when a motion is detected and you press the alert to go into the live view? Mine seems to stop recording the instant I switch to live view from the alert, which is a strange thing to do as you would expect to continue the recording of suspicious activities.
Nice video and good content. Would be good to see if there is any difference on the new wireless doorbell while using it on battery only or having it wired since it has this ability too.
Great comparison. I really hope Eufy will add support for the the battery doorbell streaming to Google Hub/Nest display devices and add integration for Google speakers to be used as chimes.
Hi great video as always Question if you already have eufy 2c camera set up with a base station 2 will you be able to just get the battery doorbell and add to system or will you have to have another base station?
@@LifeHackster I would buy a doorbell if right price but not the whole kit as not needed I guess it will be a few months before available in UK He hoping them make the right decision 🤪🤪😋
Thank you for your reviews... you are very thorough. I have a question... The Eufy doorbell states it needs to work off of 2.4ghz wifi not 5.0. my router/provider recommends only having one wifi sign in that is for both 2.4 and 5 ghz that way the best signal will be used. Will the doorbell work off of this? or do I have to split the 2 signals? Also my wired doorbell is on the side wall next to the door. does the 15 degree wedge turn the camera out enough? or should I just install the battery doorbell on the wood frame around the door so that is faces out and gets the street as well.
Thanks for the review! Is the home base chime loud enough? Can I add an extra chime upstairs to the battery powered doorbell? And does it support multiple users?
Great content. Do you know if Eufy offers add-on security cameras to work with the doorbell base station? I see kits offered, but if you get the base station with the doorbell, you shouldn’t need to buy it twice.
Thank you for very informative review. To confirm: Is the temperature spec of -20°C to 50°C correct for the battery powered version? Based on Eufy's quick start guide, it is only mentioned for wired version.
Aside from your videos being amazingly thorough and helpful, your recording set up is SICK!!! Would you happen to know where the color changing triangles are from? Thanks!
I BOUGHT 2 ECHO5's and the Ring doorbell. It takes 11 to14 seconds for the ECHO to show who's at the door! After you say "Alexa "answer the door" WHICH MAKES IT USELESS. Very disappointed at both Amazon and Ring for their POOR customer service, because they have no FIX! It would be good if Ring showed automatically. I returned Ring and bought Eufy. The self-storage sold me. I don't want to pay a monthly fee to Ring that will certainly go UP! Nice video
Your echo show will now automatically show your front door when somebody pushes your ring doorbell and it is within 3-4 seconds...no need to summon Alexa..
The video is great but I have still some important unanswered questions. Can the wired version connect to Homebase 2 and store the clips there or is it only on the doorbell itself? I would love to setup integrations with my other eufy devices so the connection with homebase 2 is important to me. Another is, can the wired one connect to an old school chime (possibly analog) like the battery one does or, does it only connect to alexa/google home and the chime that comes with it? Last question, do both support Apple Homekit?
Thank you for your very detailed and well balanced reviews ! A question: the battery doorbell stores videos and audios on the homebox. Content can then be read with a smartphone via wifi. But how does the wired version work? Are videos and audios only stored on the doorbell ? Once you get a notification, is it then possible to download these videos and audios on your smartphone? Thanks for you help.
I'd love to know the answer to this too! ... I'm concerned about the possibility of theft, if the wired one is stolen then you won't even be able to see who stole it like you would the battery one! But I already have doorbell wires so would prefer that option if its going to be secure.
@@spike378 which means it is stored outside your home while, with the battery doorbell, it is stored somewhere (depends on your decision) inside your home. That makes a great difference.
@@avs7871 I thought about it but either way if someone determined to rip your doorbell off they will do it. I dont think catching a footage will solve anything as police don't care about petty crime like this in Chicago
If you had to pick just 1 which would it be. I am buying my 1st doorbell starting fresh. I can handle the wiring if it’s a better doorbell. Just looking for the better doorbell price is not an option. I like Euphy due to no paying for cloud service.

What would you recommend, the wired or getting the battery powered version and still wiring it? In this video the wired version seemed to have better quality overall but I like how the battery powered version sends recordings to the home base.
Omar Hamad ofc go with wire if you already have the wires for your existing door bell.
Is the memory a big issue with the wired/wireless? Would 4G be enough for everyday ?
New subscriber, very informative, have been interested in Eufy doorbell for a minute, now will consider more of their products. Thank u, and your son for his assistance.
Did Eufy fix any of those issues mentioned towards the end of the video? I didn't see in the description whether any of those glitches have been fixed almost 2 years later, yet they're still selling this same battery model version on Amazon.
I wonder when the boy is gonna realize he's speaking to Lifehackster
😂
I thought he was asking for a live hamster
Lol :)
😂😂😂👌
XD
Good morning, if there are few plants in the same area, is the motion sensor affected by them?
Not if you have person detection ON.
Great video. Sound really great that they try to fix the problems as soon as possible.
Great review! Which is your preffered Eufy doorbell? Wired or wireless and why?
Thanks for thorough review. Helped me a lot what to chose.
Great job! Thanks for the video!
I appreciate your analytics, it was a big help, thanks bunches!
Great content. Very comprehensive. It's just a little difficult to consider current capabilities based on ongoing/updated software/firmware releases. This comment is 1 year after video.
great video, you conviced me, and I will buy the wired version right now
Thank you.
Eufy is working on getting the wired doorbell to also record to the home base.
@@LifeHackster Any kinda of ETA?
@@LifeHackster Any update? Did they fix this yet?
Has Eufy updated to allow saving of video from the wired doorbell to the base station yet? Any improvements with the fps? Debating getting one of these doorbells and a couple of the Cam Es or the Cam2s.
Hi LifeHackster do you know if they have fix the record of both sides of the 2 way conversation yet
There is a major security flaw in Eufy doorbells. They can be removed from the wall too easily and if a theif was to take it off and press the reset button on the back it deletes all of the data on the base station. Really surprised that no reviewers have raised this as it makes the doorbell not fit for its purpose.
Wow very good point. Also wired version is pretty much useless since it doesn't support the homebase
You might get faster alerts if you set it to only send text notifications without the images.
Thank you thank you and...thank you so much for making this vid!!!
You are welcome.
You answered my question with regard to them making the HomeBase compatible with the wired version. I will wait for this as the Ring2 doorbell I currently have is a piece of junk!
You said you will update us once eufy fixes these issues, its been 4 months and wodering if you have any update ?
Also wondering about the issues
Me too
6 months past and yet no response.
@LifeHackster where you at?
Thanks for the awesome detailed review.
You might be able to help me with the detection. I only installed the battery unit earlier this week and I found out that the recording starts only when a person is a couple of meters from the bell. I would like to have the recording started a bit earlier.
Eufy should remove the doorbell from sleep mode when it is wired
as the sleep mode not only effects detection range, but also in the delay issues. The battery doorbell already recognises whether it is connected to the battery or wired as it is shown by the little icon on the apps.
i agree. that would be a big improvement and could add the 3 second so it would be even quicker than the wired version at capture and recording. Having the battery in there only for power outage security.
I have eufycam2 but think I'll keep my ring pro doorbell for now
Loved this review. Thank you.
I use the Rapid Ring app to answer to notifications. It is faster. Thank you.
You always have great detailed content. Is there a feature for these doorbell cameras; on button press to automatically show live feed on echo show or google smart display? If so how is the response time/delay?
The only video doorbell that I have tested that has this feature is the nest hello to the google hub.. and it is instantaneous...
I use Google home hub and eufy wired video door bell. Once you link both just ask Google to show your front door it will appear on your Google home hub.
@@JoseMathewJo That's not the answer they asked for
@@JoseMathewJo is it possibly do the same with echo show?
After watching this comparison video,
*somehow i think the Battery one is better picture and motion sensing.
Is the base station the same as the camera 2c station, and can they share a single station? Excellent videos, solid reviews!
This was pretty useful. Thanks for posting.
Great video. Finally an honest and detailed review. Hi any update on the home base support and 2way voice recording on wired versions.
Love the video I have ring but I'm thinking of switching to eufy after watching this video.
Maybe a stupid question but from what i see the battery version have a better quality image and more loud
Thanks
7:04 The Eufy doorbell ringings will notify your phone quickly than the Arlo doorbell
I thought it already did that?
Hi great video as always
Question if you already have eufy 2c camera set up with a base station 2 will you be able to just get the battery doorbell and add to system or will you have to have another base station?
Yes, the battery powered doorbell can just use the Home Base 2..but I’m not sure if eufy is just selling just the video doorbell itself.
@@LifeHackster I would buy a doorbell if right price but not the whole kit as not needed
I guess it will be a few months before available in UK
He hoping them make the right decision 🤪🤪😋
My question as well. Maybe get the wireless doorbell and add cameras separately?
If you wire up the battery version do you also get the Wired version options? like continuous recording/video streaming?
+1
The chime on the home base is loud enough..I don’t think you can add more chimes..and it supports multiple users.
Great video. Im still undecided 😕 for wired or wireless. What do you recommend?
Great content. Do you know if Eufy offers add-on security cameras to work with the doorbell base station? I see kits offered, but if you get the base station with the doorbell, you shouldn’t need to buy it twice.
yes
Thank you for very informative review. To confirm: Is the temperature spec of -20°C to
50°C correct for the battery powered version? Based on Eufy's quick start guide, it is only mentioned for wired version.
Aside from your videos being amazingly thorough and helpful, your recording set up is SICK!!! Would you happen to know where the color changing triangles are from? Thanks!
@Gabriela They're called "NanoLeaf" lights but they are not cheap!
Thanks for your reply. I bought the Eufy doorbell after watching your video. Not happy with Ring
you're really putting your son to work, :). I want to get this, would you say there is an improvement from your feb 16 review?
Thank you. This video was very helpful.
Last question, do both support Apple Homekit?
made my decision ,thx for the thorough review. buy Eufy...now on to camera's
What did you decide upon?
works beautifully
It works same but storage is on the doorbell itself
@@spike378 which means it is stored outside your home while, with the battery doorbell, it is stored somewhere (depends on your decision) inside your home. That makes a great difference.
@@avs7871 I thought about it but either way if someone determined to rip your doorbell off they will do it. I dont think catching a footage will solve anything as police don't care about petty crime like this in Chicago
@@spike378 mmhh, I live in Europe...
If you had to pick just 1 which would it be. I am buying my 1st doorbell starting fresh. I can handle the wiring if it’s a better doorbell. Just looking for the better doorbell price is not an option. I like Euphy due to no paying for cloud service.
The wired one.
