    Good idea with the bag and tools.

    Those AC delco harbor freight jackstands were recalled due to the ratchet collapsing under load. Just a heads up. Also, (even with jack stands) it’s good practice to put the wheels flat under the vehicle. That way if the car does fall down on you, it will crush you but not kill you.
    Some last advice: The seamed boots should have the nuts/bolts/seam forward parallel with the ground. You’re going to have some brake cable issues switching up from the split case. It will be trial and error with which one is long enough. There’s a lot of other nuances with the conversion that the samba covers.
    Really enjoy your content

      I've had my fair share of things that tried to kill me, Thanks for the heads-up on the stands. I do have a floor jack inside the bus. I should of used for safety precautions. The boots finally stopped leaking once I moved them to that position. The articulation of the axle would pull the boot on the inner clamp and make it leak. Not having the mass on the top aloud the boot to collapse up top. Early bus with no bump stops and a 1966 transmission. e-Brake I'm running the stock cables, I hand made some spacers to get them to work as they should. I do use my e-Brake a lot on the steep down hills sections (sliding) to let and or get the bus to track straight down the hill. Thanks again for the "check" on those stand. I know better. Sometimes :o)

    Hi Larry. That's one busted transaxle! Good idea using the same tools you carry on the trail, if anything breaks on you, better in your garage than out in the bush, or if something's missing. I removed my engine & tranny from my 69' bus a couple of times did it in about 25 minutes, but you can take them out as one unit, minus the half axles. Thank you for posting this. Don't be too hard on yourself about it, always lessons learned from these trials..., all be it sometimes they can be a bit on the pricey side. Looking forward to next weeks episode. Have a good day.

      I hear you! Never to hard on myself, it’s just as fun working on them as it is driving them.🚐🏜️
      Little slower the older I get. Peace ✌️ I’ll see what I can come up with for Wednesday. Still in need of a gearbox. I should get it on Tuesday? 🤞

    Hello Larry !!!! My friend, what a huge damage in the transaxle !!!!
    I thought that just a gear was broken and not the case. I've never saw a broken case.
    Take care my dear friend !!!!

    That's gnarly! Not that it would have saved the trany case necessarily but, have you thought about putting a mid mount on the new trany? Also, I believe Buttys Bits makes a roller guide for the accelerator cable that bolts to the side plate of the trany.

    • @VintageOverlandAdventures
      @VintageOverlandAdventures  Рік тому

      Crazy Breakage! I'll need to get a mid & a rear solid mounts. I'll check out the roller guide, all these issues are mandatory. It's fun getting the Bus a little tougher. :o)

    Crazy break! If you can find a accelerator cable tube that goes over the transmission that should solve your cable sticking issues.

      That was a good one! WolfsburgWest sells them. 75/79 Bus. They get packed with pebbles, sand and mud overtime.
      I’ll make something 👍

    Wow, Larry, biiig owieee! Thanks for making this, im gonna follow your lead and replace my old original split case crashbox with whatever you wind up going with for your new bulletproof tranny. Funny thought- youre a desert survivalist, and im an arctic survivalist...both in 1958 buses. I think that's cool...er, hot! More Character Building Opportunities (CBO's) 😂✌️
