Hands down the BEST tutorial on both methods I’ve come across! Thank you 🙏🏾 As a complete beginner I think I’ll brave it and go for the raking method 1st.
Another things I like about your videos is its not like so many others, where people go way overboard, with what I call, an I'm so pretty dance, attitude, and/ or dress. When watching those "overboard" videos I'm often reminded of being told that a person should be pretty and know but not pretty and show it. That is how you are, beautiful and confident and I like that.
Definitely agree...and the sticking out of the tongue and jester dancing, extra long music intro, please, get to the quality content already. Most of the time, I simply can't, but like you, I enjoyed her video.
I love the shingling method for my 4 type hair. I do a combination of shingling and coiling. I do it so often to the point where it takes me 30mins to complete my entire head. It just looks better, imo.
When you have a TWA, the shingling method is best for a more defined look. Once your hair grows out of the TWA stage, the taking method is better. That’s just what I’ve experienced in my hair journey.
I don't know. I recently tried raking over shingling and my curls look way better. i wanted to wear my natural curl pattern, so raking was perfect while shingling created tighter, but more defined curls. I prefer the volume and natural definition that raking gives me.
Great vid. Thanks. My take away is that for tighter curls or less naturally defined, shingling would work best. For bigger or more naturally defined curls, raking 😀
When my hair was shorter, I happily raked. But now my hair has grown considerably, shingling gives me the best results. It takes a little longer yes but my wash and go lasts a really loooooooong time!
Raquel Watanasrimongkol shingling? It takes me about an hr but it depends on how thick your hair is... finally.amber here on yt takes 30 min to do hers and hazel godesss (caaliyah) takes 2 hrs😂😂so it depends
beau knows88 I always lose patience and give up after 30 minutes. 😂 Mine is 4c so I’m gonna give my self 2hrs and try this again. Your hair is beautiful!!
Raquel Watanasrimongkol 🤗🤗🤗 and yea you have to find someone on here w/ your type of curl pattern and see the techniques they use. Wash n goes are about technique and realizing your curl pattern is yours. Sometimes ppl watch videos (im victim) and say oh my hair was a fail bc it didnt look like that and thats unrealistic.
THANK YOU for this explanation! I am wrestling with my comfort zone of straightening my hair out with heat and going natural. Your explanation helps me to feel confident trying these methods and understanding what to expect from them! Also - your hair is beautiful, as are you!
Wow I thought I was doing the shingling method 😂 smh I was raking the whole time. Well I guess I prefer the raking but I’ll try the shingling method 👌🏾👌🏾
I like both of them, now that you explained them, however, mostly do the Raking method, due to time and work and everything else, but considering the fact that the shilling method is tighter and it last longer, O think they both have their purpose so I will use both when necessary. Thanks a bunch girl, and your hair is the bomb.
@@donttouchmyhair9636 not everyone puts their face as their pic. She obviously knows the behaviour of natural hair and was just sharing her own. Bye🤣🤣🤣
I really learned some things from this video. I didn’t know about shingling and taking. I think I lean more towards raking. When I do a fresh wash and go, on my very wet hair, I apply mixture of Mixed Chicks and Shea Moisture Caster Oil smoothie leave in conditioners. I don’t use any kind of butter (maybe I should). Then I section my hair and apply Camille Rose curl maker. After doing these things, I use a large tooth comb and my Denman brush to distribute the products through my hair. I also lean my head to the left, right and backwards using my Denman brush in a some what upward direction (I’m trying to encourage volume). Then I shake my hair from side to side, forward and backward. Curls form on their own. It takes a long time to dry but I like it.
Just began to transition to natural hair...thank you for explaining the difference between “raking” and “shingling!” THANK YOU! And...you and your hair, BEAUTIFUL!
Any chance you could provide the list and order of the products you use and the type of hair you have...4a,b,c or 3a,b,c. Thank you and I loved both sides!!
Hello. I'm late to the video but I love the raking method and the idea of using my hand by finger combing my hair. I just recently did the coiling method as of 11/22. Thanks for sharing
I absolutely love your hair and this video was the best I have seen whether on UA-cam or Instagram. Please, you got to tell me how would the same exact method work under a hair dryer. I was thinking of trying this but need advice first. Thanks.
I'm so glad I found you! Your video is GREAT! I think I liked the shilling better. I'm going to try it this weekend. I'm struggling with finding the right products. My hair is always SUPER dry!!
I'm impressed with how fast the raking takes. Girl as soon as i'm able I'll be buying every product you mentioned I will, and i'm going to try both method. I'm so tired of wearing a "silverish" plain looking afro. Honestly I really don't know how to do my own hair. I would need you to do any makeup on me (smiles) because I don't wear nor know how to correctly apply makeup. Thank you so much for sharing and you explained it all so well.
As most of us Corona has given me no other choice but to do my hair (which I've never done). Kudos UA-cam! I've done raking, I like it (quick). Going to try shingling today. Thanks for sharing!
I love both sides on you. I prefer the shingling method on my hair because of the definition then once it dries I do the banding method and it last me a full week.
Im so glad i found this video I never knew there was a difference i just thought girls were using different words to explain the same technique like ( fast & quick); i thought. ( shingling, raking, praying hands etc) were all the same thing never noticed a difference until you pointed one out. Thanks
Your hair is beautiful! I find that when my hair is soaking, dripping wet I have the best results with any product that I use. I've tried shingling and raking with dripping wet hair both work better. I even add more water while adding products. I stand on a towel because its messy. But the results are phenomenal!
Great tutorial; one of the best on UA-cam...how do you maintain the shingle method of the wash & go daily? You said in your videos it lasts one week. How do you refresh it?
Hey Alisha...I first wanted to say I love both of your channels...You have a beautiful family as well☺..Ok when I do my wash and go's I like the ranking method the best for me...It takes days for my hair to dry when I shingle. I don't put heat on my hair so you know that's a pain..Also, my shrinkage is horrible when I shingle...So no shingles for me unless I am going for a shorter look...
Where is the makeup routine cause girlfriend your makeup looks so pretty and I love your makeup and your hair looks amazing and I love it. Thanks for sharing this method with us
Did the shingling method today took me forever. I also finger coiled. Cant wait to see how it looks when its dried though. I hope the style stays for a few days.
Our hair looks similar 😍 but girl raking is a no go for me. The only way I can get my hair to last at least a few days is by shingling... thanks for sharing! New subbie! ❤️
@@beaubeauknows3620 band method works better for me as the pineapple stretches out in some places but shrinks in other places causing my shape to look ridiculous
Got to say that your curls came out looking awesome with both methods in my opinion. But the main thing I wanted to say was, thank you for this video. Because I've finally learned about another method for defining my curls other than the raking approach. Which I still kind of like. Just I think for right now with my hair type and still figuring things out since going natural. The raking method, just is not quite what I need. But I think with a better curl definer and more practice with the shingling approach(as well as a bit more time in doing it, lol), I may have found a way to get my coils back. Thanks again. :D
First, I love your videos, thank you!! Second, I love your hair, and make up. Last but not least, I am about to big chop my hair. I would like to know if you can offer a suggestion as starter products to curl my hair naturally. Thank you, and keep up the excellent work.
awesome demonstration. I love the fact you got to the point without a long intro. Great video.
Raking is my Favorite because it’s quicker but both methods came out beautiful 💕

I've only tried shingling once, the curls were beautiful but the shrinkage was insane
I love them both but I prefer the raking method! I have fine hair and I need volume and that little frizz to make it big! Gorgeous hair!
Thank you!!
Yea me too I need as much volume as I can probably get
I agree and love all your positive comments as they voiced my thoughts while watching.
Thank you
I love how some people can just rub conditioner on the surface of their hair and be like “ahhh, that’ll do.”
Carolina Blue seriously. You gotta get inside.
Carolina Blue exactly that’s me
That’s me 😬😂
Carolina Blue I wish I could do that lol my hair would laugh at me the next day full of frizz and dryness.

Very informative!!! It's crazy to see the raking method has more volume, great video
I just tries the shingling method and for the first time my wash and go turned out great.😁 thank you
This was such a fun experiment to watch! I love the raking side. I also have very little time. Your hair looks like the bomb, Queen!

Why when I do the shingling method or the raking method my hair shrinks to an Afro!!!!? There is no length! It just shribbles up like a raisin !

Finger coil it
U have what U have!!!! Everyone doesn't have length! In 1 state it is longer, another; natural length!!

Thanks for giving examples of both methods. Most videos don’t explain the method being used.
Depends on how your curl pattern and texture of the hair
This was a thorough explanation of both methods. Thank you! Step by step.
This is my first time watching but I love the racking. I like that it gives volume and a little bit of frizz is fine... it is "natural"..

I love this video exactly what I needed to guide me. Thank you Sis!
Raking looks better because more volume. Frizz doesn't bother me either, it just adds to the volume. Also love how quick raking is.
I like the raking method because it is quicker and I have no patience. The shingling looks great as well. This is a wonderful tutorial.
Both sides look beautiful. Shingling would be my way to go😊. Thanks for the demo. Very helpful.
