You are amazing at what you do!!! Thanks you and I appreciate you sharing your expertise!🙏 I'm looking to build my own in couple of months I would like to it to be like you your is!
@@BuildingVanLife Funny because I do the same! Always look at the side door especially because those curves are weird. Im doing a bulk wall So I'm hoping it helps since ill have an additional piece to screw into.
This was awesome to watch you finish all the bare corners! One thing I’m not clear about though, is what if you need to change out rear upper marker bulbs?
Your shelf is awesome! Please what screws did you use to attach to metal on the shelf above slider door? They looked smaller than the wood into metal screws i have.. ALSO please... where did you get and what type of carpet did you use.. I'm having trouble finding something that i am confident in.... Thanks again... I'm going to try and build it for my van.. wish me luck!
thank you, they are the same wood/drywall to metal self drilling screws i have shown a bunch on the channel. I get them from home depot. I have a variety of sizes, 1''1/8th i use the most. The carpet i used is also from home depot. They all have it. It's like a grey industrial type
My wife and I are educating ourselves and designing our van that arrives in September. She noticed you shaved your arms. Do I have to do that too? Lol. We like your construction techniques
Nice job. Are you pre drilling your self tappers? I have no luck with self tappers securing anything. Also, I'd love to see what all your caulk joints look like now, after a bunch of constant expansion contraction, and some dirt road riding... Is it holding up?
No I don’t pre drill the self tapping screws that’s the purpose of using them. I have 10k miles on my current van and haven’t had to touch up any of the caulking joints yet
The wood-to-metal self drilling screws won’t get through these spots in my Ford Transit (D pillar and area above back door). I even tried pre drilling and can’t get a metal bit through it. Did you have any trouble with this on the promaster? Any tips?
I have only build promasters and sprinters. There are certain sections on structural beams I can’t get through but you should be able to get through any regular sheet metal sections
Hi! Thanks for sharing! How do you avoid condensation on the metal parts if the wood is fixed to metal? Won't the wood rot over time? Thanks for your input!
I have either sprayed foam or stuffed traditional insulation behind all the metal parts if you look closely. It’s the rapid temp change that causes a lot of the condensation. With that and ventilation you can minimize it as much as possible. I haven’t had any issues with it yet.
Quick question bruddah do u use 1-1/2 Brad nails ? as well on the inside side walls installing ship lab panels? just curious if use any screws wondering if it’s going to hold up thanks
Looks fantastic! I'm a little worried about how permanent it all is. What happens when you need to change lightbulbs in the back or get to your slider door wiring? I'm really looking for a way to make it all a bit more removable without cutting caulk and tearing it all out.
The shelf isn’t actually covering any of access to the tail lights. Those are accessed from the columns in the corners. Those won’t be closed off permanently. If you’re referring to those little red lights above the doors on the exterior those are changed from the outside. Above the sliding door there isn’t any wiring in there.
"I'll just take my square here and make it all nice and square." To what? Hahaha! You know nothing's square in a van! I'd add a laughing emoji here to let you know that I'm laughing WITH you, not AT you, but my emojis aren't working on my Mac.
yup, that's pretty good. I took some screen captures and saved your vid. Thx for sharing.
Mate, that’s bloody genius. Thanks for that 🤙🏼

So stoked you covered this in such detail!! Such an overlooked part of the build.
Thank you and I agree, it's often overlooked.
Best solution on u tube . Best wishes from England.

Cleanest treatment of those areas that I’ve seen so far.

But how I get in touch if I need some services?
SO helpful man thanks for this. Ive been dreading the idea of finishing these spots when I get to it haha.
Yeh this is the first area i look at when i look at someone else's van, if this area looks good then they probably did a good job on the whole van

Only if you want to be as aerodynamic as me
Great job done! Question: how safe to drive screws to the metal part of the van without rustoleum to prevent rusting?
Nice job. Are you pre drilling your self tappers? I have no luck with self tappers securing anything. Also, I'd love to see what all your caulk joints look like now, after a bunch of constant expansion contraction, and some dirt road riding... Is it holding up?

Very nice. Do you find when your getting in the side door you have to duck a little longer going in so as not to hit the shelf?
not going in, but when going out you do have to slightly duck your head. It's very slight though, tape some cardboard up and test it.
I love the way you finish those details. What kind of paint did you use? It's really bright! Thanks.
Thank you! It’s Behr semi gloss Swiss coffee from Home Depot
What paint color did you use in your van?! Thanks!
it's from home depot. Behr interior semi gloss swiss coffee

Haha. First winner.
I have a promaster and I have been watching all your moves !
What size Brad nails are u using above rear doors looks good 👍🏼
1”1/2 18 gauge finish nails
👍🏼keep up what your doing i like watching your videos it gives me more options thank u
What kind of Caulking did you use to give it the finished look? You my friend make it look easy.
Thank you. Just regular white caulking for trim

What type of paint do you use in the van, and are you applying with a brush or roller? Thanks!
Behr semi gloss Swiss coffee. I use a combo of a cut in brush and a mini roller. The thin type.

I used screws on almost every piece of ship lap, on the small detail pieces that couldn't be screwed, I brad nailed them and used wood glue also.
What is the thickness of the plywood your using on your back door & side door shelves?
it's half inch sanded plywood
