    I love this setup and have used it for a long time. I like to use
    It when on vacation where you also can put in a chromecast in the hotel tv that auto connects to the I-net router as well
    As all family members devices

    This is great! I actually tried the same thing but didn't realize I had to go back into openwrt. Time to go back and redo this.

    I have the Gl.Inet Spitz AX & I'm trying to get this sorted out. I don't want to use an exit node, as my upload is 2 mbps. I'd rather use split-tunneling.
    I have my Unraid server advertising my LAN, but I can't access any of my apps, e.g. Homarr via the LAN IP & port number (192.x.x.x:port).
    However, I can access it using the tailscale IP & port number (100.x.x.x:port).
    Setting up tailscale on my iPhone, I can access my unraid server & all the apps just fine without using the tailnet IP.
    Any Ideas?

    Good Video, I dont know why they didnt set the interface up in a way that you dont neet to use the Luci interface additionaly but other than that its a cool thing. I have an older model the Slate one, which could do the same if you thinkered with openwrt but considering now to have this one so it would be more easy to upgrade maintaine and use. I also have a second android phone just for connecting back home to a raspberry pi zero 2 via tailnet, So I share the phones 4G network (which has unlimited data I pay for it) and everything is going through the VPN to home and from there to the Internet. If I travel its very handy. But this would be more for a permanent travel router so my kids and wife just connect to this if we are somwhere its a setup and forget if I pair this with my phone via USB tether. Cable connects and everything sets up. Cool Stuff. Imagine if you have Starlink, Tailscale, this router and a caravan camper or something. Endless possibilities.

    Nice. But what wil happen if the public wi-fi has an splash / login page?

    • @wrgms
      @wrgms 17 днів тому +3

      You need to log in from a wifi client _before_ activating your Tailscale exit node. Once connected, the travel router's MAC address will be authorized, and any new internal clients (Tailscale or not) will be transparent to the public wifi system.

      @samitheberber 15 днів тому

      @@wrgms this is the case where you might need the clone option under MAC address, because you need to handle the login page with the host device at first.

      You just need to connect the WiFi router to the public WiFi as a repeater. The WiFi router will open the splash page on the device, you can enter your details, then the router will give all of your devices access. I use this method for devices that have no way of showing a splash screen like a google chromecast or Nintendo switch for over a year now

    whoa, this is brilliant! I tried to do exactly this with a GL-AXT1800 (Slate AX) a few years ago, but Tailscale on ARM was still largely incipient and unsupported. I went back-and-forth with their tech support for a while, and eventually decided it wasn't ready for prime time. I just upgraded to the latest GL.iNet firmware and used your step-by-step, and it worked beautifully out of the box.
    (now, in hindsight, it is very possible my original issue was with the firewall rules all along, and not with Tailscale. I was trying to set up the firewall rules manually, and never occurred to me of using the LuCI interface like you indicated)
    Super handy to have access to my private TS network while traveling, without having to have a per-device client installed. Thank you!

      I wish I saw this video a week ago when I was fiddling with a GLinet router. Would have saved me a ton of research. I eventually got it working like he's shown here, enabling Tailscale0. Brief and straight to the point no-nonsense video. And I love it. One question though, is it possible to configure the button to work with Tailscale like with works with Wireguard/openvpn where you can completely disable any Internet access if the VPN isn't connected?
