I keep saying this. Teams like the Warriors, the Spurs or the 2011 Mavericks are teams that are focused on playing their absolute best for each other and winning for each other. The narrative doesn’t matter for them. Meanwhile teams like the 2014-2018 Cavaliers, 2011 Heat or this years Lakers is all about one guy. Everyone is there to help Lebron. Everyone is a potential asset for a better teammate for Lebron regardless of chemistry. It’s just a bunch of expandable guys trying to help Lebron in winning a championship. Here is my opinion. I did not believe Luke deserved head coaching job, from his short time as sub coach for Warriors. I thought many better coaches were passed up. The cancer is clearly LeBron. Historically, every team he’s ever been on, from as far back as SVSM, he has tried to impose his will and agenda on the team...his way or the highway. His youth coaches did nothing but enable this behavior by giving him whatever he wanted and dubbing him “the King” before he even graduated from high school. Here is my opinion. I did not believe Luke deserved head coaching job, from his short time as sub coach for Warriors. I thought many better coaches were passed up. But now that he is coach, I do not believe the current problems are his making. These players just dont respect him, even when he probably knows what he is saying. It's a lose lose for him. Lebron also must be a handful. Basically I dont blame him. Lakers hired him irresponsibly and now blame him without just cause. Luke is in a tough spot. The cancer is clearly LeBron. Historically, every team he’s ever been on, from as far back as SVSM, he has tried to impose his will and agenda on the team...his way or the highway. His youth coaches did nothing but enable this behavior by giving him whatever he wanted and dubbing him “the King” before he even graduated from high school. His ego has been stroked from a very young age. The only one that really stood up to him was Riley. His track record speaks for itself. That’s not to take anything away from his talent and basketball IQ, both of which are phenomenal. But as far as being a “team player”, it has always been LeBron’s way or the highway, and coaches are no exception. I’m actually surprised Magic Johnson is enabling this behavior as he is an “old school” player. With him making it clear that anyone on the current roster is available for trading for Anthony Davis (except LBJ of course), how are the younger players (as in, inexperienced and not used to the business-side of the league) supposed to focus on the game plan?
LeBron and co are more savy dealing in the business side of basketball compared to Magic. Magic as great as he was as a player doesn't have the resume of a Pat Riley, Greg Popovich, or Phil Jackson.
People need to stop this nonsense, believing that former great players can be great front office managers. The only example is Larry Bird, the only one in decades. Magic was a awful coach and a terrible TV analyst. He got lucky with his financial consultants, yes, but that's doesn't mean he knows what he is doing. He hired people to manage his money and business for a reason, the guy knows how to run after a ball, not other stuff. @Lorian Loth What's so "toxic" about not liking a coach? If he's trying to compete for a title, everything has to be as good as can be right? What's so bad about thinking that a coach doesn't mesh well with him? If you're the make or break to a team, why can't you have a coach that you can put your trust in to lead you. It'd be totally different if LeBron would have picked these coaches in the first place like how people say that about players around Lebron particularly 2 years ago with the Cavs. So it's a double standard with coaches and players now?

Lakers are young and to see them being coached by Luke Walton is something. As an organization, I felt, they were growing. But now, with this drama, I don't see any hope. I will follow Luke to whichever team he goes to. I think he is a good coach. As for the Lakers, if they lose Lonzo, Kyle Kuzma, and Brandon Ingram they will be losing very potential players [especially Kuzma]
