Lol yes :)
There should’ve been some Butyl Tape between the fender and chassis all the way around all points of contact between the fender and chassis. That fender has been off before. The lack of Butyl Tape along the side of the engine probably contributed to all that corrosion.
Great video, as always! Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas!
Hi Justin, ah interesting! Ok I’ll renew when I refit. Thanks and happy Christmas:)
Ahh the wonderful world of rust.
Gotta love rust :)
Love your videos, just binge watched them all over the Christmas break and am now inspired to find my own old Porsche to restore. Had a few 944's in the past that I wish I'd kept...
Keep up the great work! Looking forward to the next installment.
Thanks Stubonsey! Appreciate the support :). And …. Do it! Before it’s too late.
well, as bad as mine has been to deal with, I'm glad that I didn't have to do sill replacements!
Yes a bit of a pain in the a**, but hey, it’s all good experience. :)
Great work, Todd!
Thank you :)
you're right. those wheels look great!
:)
Awesome work as always - and yes, the wheels look great! Thanks for all the episodes. Have a very Merry Christmas.
Thanks Mowdra, have a great Christmas:)
I’m going to have my fender off soon too. Good work
Usually it comes off really easily. For some reason I couldn't get it off this time!
Should’ve used a heat gun on the top of the fender, near the cowl. It was the glue. You risked damaging the fender. I have a few spares but I’m in US
Ah… thanks for the tip. Will do that on the other side. Shame shipping is so expensive
Next time use a sander to takes off the paint before you break out the hammer. You don’t want mangle the parts of the metal if it’s good
Good point :).Don’t worry, I had pre-checked and knew it was all crumbling rust. I’ve been sizing this up for months
The inner sills don't look too bad Todd. Merry Christmas!
Thanks Neil - nothing that a little grind&weld wont sort :). Happy Christmas to you as well :)
New subscriber here.
928s are beautiful looking cars.
Thanks Andrew
Good work as usual. Keep it up and have a very Merry Christmas. Looking forward to more episodes next Year.
Hey Redkenj - I had been waiting a long time to hit that with a hammer... very satisfying :)
"Casey the car guy" UA-cam bought pasha a few years ago and had left overs. Maybe try him for a piece
Thanks Dave! messaging him now.
Trim the inner rotted metal. Make a patch panel and get a welder. Treat all the metal with a product similar to POR15 rust inhibitor and sealer. Try not to touch the lower seam if it’s not needed. That is very structural.
Brilliant, thank you. I have a welder (watch some of the earlier episodes !:))
The tool that you used to praised of the front wing to which you said it's not a tool but a strip of metal. ..Looks like a tool that pull wooden flooring to compress for a tighter fix with a hammer. Keep it up, avid fan. merry christmas
Ah... now that would make sense as I have had a lot of wooden floor fitted over the years! And Happy Christmas to you :)
Another great video Todd, with the front suspension, I have to jack the front up, to then be able to use my ramps as front too low
Once jacked up, the suspension takes a week or so to settle down again
I too am now missing the AC compressor, all hoses and Condenser/dryer, quite a bit of weight gone
Suspension would have been easier to work on with the guard off I bet.
But you are not shy in taking hammer to sill, car won't know its self once you get it all sorted
Looking forward to more video's, Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to you and family
Hi Pieter, I use axel stands on my front as it allows me to take the wheels off. But yes, these cars are said to take around 50miles driving for the suspension to settle. Mine has done over 100 and still not returned to the correct height. I think its the S4 dampers, but I'll take it all apart and check nothing wrong first.
Hitting the sill was amazing :)
Wishing you a happy Christmas!
Really interesting work and always fun to watch your progress on the 928.
Thanks Christian, glad you are enjoying it! :)
I have some wings…I will have a look at them in the new year and see how good they are. Geoff
Thanks Geoff :) are you near me?
