  • In this video I test what seems to be a sort of next gen Yeswelder, the YWA-160, and compare it to a PrimeWeld 160ST.
    I test stick output and performance as well as the lift start characteristics for lift start TIG.
    As requested by several viewers, I have set up a Patreon account. Any support is appreciated, but absolutely not required.

    Thanks for another great video!
    I have a YesWelder arc 205 ( blue case ), it’s not perfect, but did the job I needed it for at the time. Looks like YesWelder is addressing some of their earlier shortcomings. I’m amazed that you can get a usable 160 amp machine for anywhere near a hundred bucks!
    Recently got the PrimeWeld stick 160, it’s my third Primeweld machine, and doesn’t disappoint.
    The arc is smooth, and starts easily, it’s easy to set amperage, even with a gloved hand.

    Nice review, my son bought the Yeswelder ARC 400Q some years back when 20% off was a thing for them. They have since discontinued that machine, but he beats and beats on that thing with no love and it's been his goto little beast for 6010, he say's for some reason it runs 6010 better than just about anything he's used, strange for sure.

      @bigtb1717  Рік тому

      When I reviewed the ARC 400Q I was surprised to find it ran 6010 very well. Far better than any other Yeswelder I've tested. I also found the build inside to be very simple and seemingly robust, for the most part.

    Awesome video as usual. I like the primeweld but like you said, might as well save up a little more and get something better. I might get the Hobart 160 which is essentially the same machine as the Miller 160

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  Рік тому +1

      Yup, I think the Hobart version is a better deal than the Miller Thunderbolt. It is a nicer machine and is better built than either of these two, but it doesn't run 6010 much better than the Yeswelder and it doesn't have a lift-start TIG mode. Just Something to be aware of. If you are okay with 130 amps max output, the ESAB Rogue 130 is a step up from the Hobart Stickmate/Miller Thunderbolt in some regards.

    Nice review. Primeweld all the way, post sale service backing their products is better than Miller. It is superior in longevity and built quality to Yeswelder any time. It is an American company, their customer service is brutal. Yeswelder is for those who wanna go far too cheap and then when it (fairly quickly) falls apart there is nobody to call to and there you go, buying another machine. If you put your money aside, you could get better machine right away.

    That right there was a great video I do have to say it's good to see that you're breaking into the prime welds I have the primeweld Tig 225x and it welds better than any Miller that I put up against it I've tried the Miller dynasty 250 DX and it does not run as smooth and as easy as the primeweld 225x does I've also added the water cooler to mine too and now on aluminum sky the limits with welding aluminum I can keep going and going and going just like the Energizer Bunny and does not hit the overheat. Look forward to seeing you break into more of the primeweld welders a real good one to test would be the MTS 200 it's a really good welder and if you break into the bigger stick TIG machines the 225x would be the one to try it would really knock your socks off.

      @@brianlittleforest631 I think it's just coming down that all these Chinese welders are starting to step their game up to get in the field with these Millers and Lincoln's and they're learning what that has to be put into them to make them last and I think that's great because it makes it easier for the younger generation to get into welding then it was before when you had to spend a minimum $5,000 to get a good TIG welder.

    • @brianlittleforest631
      @brianlittleforest631 Рік тому

      Miller and Lincolns aren't manufactured with the quality that they used to be.
      And over the years, most manufacturers have all outsourced the labour to countries with cheaper wages.
      Lincoln and Miller are just as Chinese inside the cases.
      A buddy has one of the 210mps. The welder has got no hifreq, so no AC, no pulse. And Lincoln didn't bother installing the plug for the pedal or a valve for the tig side either so you have to use a torch with a valve and buy the plug your self. Just built cheaply by smushing the bare bones of all 3 processes into one machine. Then sold at a ridiculous price for what it is. Lincoln changed out the torch consumables too so you have to find the funny magnum pro stuff instead of the generic Tweco stuff. Only good thing I can say is the lift start function actually works.
      No comparision between the old Idealarcs, CC/CVs and the machines they make today.
      My 225x still smokes the tits off other machines I've used, red or blue, at half the price.
      Mk is one of the few domestic manufacturers that hasn't given in wholly to greed. They still sell Cobramigs and parts to fix older 20 year old models.
      Still waiting on a welder that's Chinese designed and manufacturered, that actually outputs what is says it can, and all the claimed features work.
      Chinese manufacturers really take advantage of the ignorance that permeates the hobby market.
      Where did you hear you used to need a 5000$ machine to tig weld? All you need is a tank, a torch and a CC welder and your good to go. A cheap buzzbox with a home-job rectifier would do just fine.

    Can’t comment on the Yes welder. I did buy a Primeweld plasma cutter. It didn’t work out of the box. I called the guy to let him know. I don’t know if he was having a bad day or what but he was a complete jerk from the start of the conversation. He did eventually send me another one and of course it didn’t work out of the box either. I was pretty disappointed. Now I’m out what I consider to be a lot of money. I chose this brand because the reviews were much higher than others.

      @bigtb1717  Рік тому

      Yeah, I was surprised. Years ago I tested a few inverter welders with 6011 and had no issue. Lately I've been testing 6010 because a lot of people specifically want to run 6010, but I haven't been making a point to test 6011. Someone recently asked me if some welder would run 6011 and I said I actually never even tried, but I told them I'd run 6011 with the next couple welders I test. I was surprised they didn't run just fine. I almost wonder if it would have run if I'd just turned the amperage up a bit, but 70 amps should be enough to run a 3/32" 6011.

    Nice video and good to have data, exactly what I found with MP200, hot start is there but duration is smaller than the 500mS you get on this welder and why crank up the lift start current.. Why not 5A?, 50A on MP200 = sticking, 60A on your welder, although it doesn't appear to stick so probably my technique.. Still too high IMHO..

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  Рік тому

      Actually, the reason I deliberately pressed the tungsten into the metal, left it there for a second, then lifted was to show that even then, it didn't stick. It's not only about the initial amps. It's about the voltage and amperage profile. The MP200 does not have proper lift start programming. The YWA-160 does, even if it's not the best.
      In other words, it's not your technique with the MP200. That machine behaves more like a scratch start machine, so it requires a lot more practice and careful technique to prevent sticking. The YWA-160 (and other machines with a proper lift start) does not. In my recent multi-process comparison I show the difference between a the MP200 TIG starts and a machine with actual lift start. The MP200 would stick the tungsten so bad it would just about rip a clamped part off the table. The YWA-160 didn't even lift up a part that was just laying on the table.

    What touch are you using on ur prime welder for tig

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  Рік тому +1

      I believe that was the torch that came with the another cheap TIG welder at some point. If I had to buy a torch for a welder like this, I'd probably buy a CK9V torch (CK 9 style torch with a valve) and I'd personally get one with a superflex cable. At that point, you'd still need to get a torch adapter. CK also makes one of those that I've used and works well. Places like Amazon and eBay also sell complete torches with adapters that will work with these welders.

    @Bigtb1717 Hey 👋 I have a YesWelder MIG 250 PRO that I recently bought... It does NOT meet the advertised output but there is a guy that has a video here... ua-cam.com/video/kHcdz8UpXbs/v-deo.html that shows both the 205 and the MIG 250 putting out the exact advertised amperage. 😐 I don't know how he is getting the correct readings because my testing shows my YesWelder 250 amp putting out only about 180 amps... I don't know if his videos are doctored or what is going on... Please share your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!! I know you personally tested the 205 and it did not output as advertised.... Thanks!!!!

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  Рік тому +2

      I watched his video. A couple things come to mind. First, it's very possible there is sample variation. So it's possible his machines put out the rated amperage.
      However, the second though makes me believe this is not the case. Part of his methodology I think is likely to lead to misleading results. He had his meter set to "min/max." Even though he mentioned shutting off "hot start," welding current is still a very noisy signal. The 240-250 amps he saw may been peaks lasting microseconds, while the overall average output may have been 180 amps. He never left the meter to show real time readings, he only did Min/Max mode readings. So signal noise or even a legitimate brief spike may have pushed the "max" number up, even if the average, real-world output may have been far lower. And you can tell this is likely the case, because the number seems to start lower, then jump a bit when it reads a spike, then jump a bit more from another spike.
      I wasn't there, so I can't say he's wrong. All I can say is that I've tested many welders with many different amperage testers, including a multi-thousand dollar oscilloscope. And I don't believe a Min/Max mode on a clamp meter is going to give a very realistic output measurement.

      @@bigtb1717 Thank you for your response this is what my feelings were also but I really wanted your input. There is more... In automatic mode my Yeswelder Mig 250 Pro says in the settings chart if you are welding 5MM that you need to set the welder to the maximum 250 amps 😂😆😂😆. Then I called YesWelder to confirm and they said "YES" and I said NO.. that does not really make sense. So they then found another chart (a different one then comes with the welder) that had more standardized settings and said I could use that. What a joke!! Sorry to take out my frustration but I believe YesWelder is a ScamWelder. Mine welds very cold in synergic to the point where it just stutters. Forget 035 wire it won't run it! I really wanted to make my first UA-cam video regarding this. I honestly believe the company is running an elaborate scam selling to less knowledgeable welders that don't know the difference and they are paying the people who do know the difference.
