  • Revealing Wales is a series from The Royal Society of Architecture in Wales that celebrates the nation’s great buildings and structures.
Tredegar House is one of the architectural wonders of Wales, and one of the most significant late seventeenth century houses in Britain. Set in handsome landscaped grounds just outside the city of Newport in south east Wales, Tredegar House is a stunning example of crafts-led architecture.
In this film, conservation architect Michael Davies unpicks the complex layers of architectural history present at Tredegar, and discusses evolving approaches to the conservation and maintenance of this magnificent and unique building.
RSAW has created this series of short films celebrating the richness, quality, and diversity of the built environment of Wales. This series of films aims to capture the imagination of anyone interested in the history of Welsh architecture. Produced by Lyndon Jones Media, the films explore the diversity and richness of Welsh culture for all to enjoy.

I love Tredegar House it's one of my favourite places in the world! I last visited in 2016 and took my dad, who wasn't sure where we were going as he knew it as "Duffy House". He grew up nearby in the 60s and knew it is as the boarding school it was then lol. I also love how Captain Morgan rum was developed by a pirate cousin. The histories and mysteries of Tredegar are fascinating.

I am directly descended from Sir Rowland Morgan of Machen and Tredegar, b. 1508, and Lady Blanch Thomas. They had William Morgan, Sr. b. 1534, who wed Lady Elizabeth Bodenham. They had Sir William Morgan Baron of Tredegar( born there in 1560), who wed Lady Elizabeth Winter Baroness of Tredegar. They had William Morgan, b. 1582, who wed Elizabeth, b. 1589. They had James Morgan, b. 1607, who emigrated to the American colony of Massachusetts. He wed Margaret Hill of Mass. and settled in Groton, Connecticut where his land was passed down for six generations. This is my Mother's direct line of ancestry. Someday I will visit this beautiful Estate of my ancestors. Thank you from California, USA.
