Thanks for doing these videos. I’m just starting on my ‘07 GMC 2500HD. Gives me hope I can save my truck. It’s a Duramax LBZ and runs and drives perfect but the rusty rear frame is bad. With only 109,000 miles I want to keep it and fix it. So far I dealt with the bed bolts. 3 spun so I cut the heads off. I’m making a bed dolly to store the bed and do some body work on it too. I’m 76 and up for a challenge 😂
Thank you for documenting this. I’m getting an 01’ 2500hd single cab long box that a farmer had since day one. It’s rusty but good bones being a NY truck and 190k on it. But I did crawl under and find that rear spare tire mount all rotted out. Makes me feel very capable of repairing the rust
Recently just removed and replaced the spare tire mount/brackets on my Bro's 97 K1500, it has rivets as well and we cut the heads off with a saws all with long blade then used a grinder and punch to remove the rivets, it was fairly rusty for being a SE- Georgia/Florida Truck, but Very Similar process, Everything else on the frame was good and not compromised surprisingly, Appreciate your attention to detail on These Rust Repairs- Makes me want to start buying junk title trucks for the frames lol - so cheap down here and mostly clean.
Very nice repair you were very detailed and knowledgeable. My question is, is that truck with that fantastic repair going back into the same road conditions as before?? If so, it’s like why even bother. I used to live in NYS and now I live in Florida and I see 2000 to 2005 Chevy trucks all the time, with no rust. They’ll still have the black factory coating on the frame with no rust. Only clear coat on hood and roof burned off from hot sun. Truly amazing.
Done this couple of times on my tracks If u go this far flip bed over and power wash out Set bed at angle and pour Rust-Oleum paint on bottom of floor It will flow and seal cross supports on bed Tip put cardboard between bed and cab it stops any scratches or dings while lifting off
When you put the rear tank cross member back in. What did you use for reference points or measurements to ensure it went back I. The correct spot for the shock and gas tank strap
Ive got an 03 duramax 3500 that needs all these same repairs but ALSO needs a new bump stop bracket and control arm bracket, have you ever done that type of repair?
I’ve got a 1500 Silverado..looking to get some frame repair done. What does something like this cost? Might drop it off to you since you’re only 45 minutes away
Awesome job! I am getting ready to do the same exact repair to the rear cross member. Is the exhaust mount not included with the Saf-t cross member? Also. I have never welded to a truck frame, what precautions do i need to take with the electrical system of the truck. Thanks!
Great video thanks! I’m in the middle of replacing my spare tire crossmember now and wondering if you could tell me what size and grade bolts you use to replace the rivets are, particularly on the shackle brackets? Any need to increase the diameter or anything?
@MorFab Industries. Any thoughts on if that rear crossmember would fit a '99 2500? OE has the tube but if I can stiffen up the rear when I go to replace the other crossmembers that would be nice.
I'm looking to see if there is a way to repair the side frame or side rail area's that you touched on at 11:30. What happens if you do not have enough thickness? Our local shop said they wouldn't touch it because it's too far gone. Can these side frames be removed and rewelded to the front - or are we looking at an entire frame swap?
@@baileysconstruction7898 yeah man that sucks a big one. luckily my rails are still solid. I just finished mine up today actually. Wish I could post some pics it came out nice. Paint is all I have left to do now I should have the bed and tank back in by Saturday. I replaced all the cross members even the one right under the cab that goes over the drive shaft. A shop quoted me 1032 dollars to just do the very rear. Luckily I have a torch and good welder to do it so I was able to do it all for around 900 give or take a little for random supplies and paint.
@@jordanlogsdon9926 ya I’m actually cutting out the back half the frame and sectioning another one in tomorrow because I found a rust free frame that just bent in the front
Hey, the gas tank crossmember is by nature wider than the holes in the frame. Did you just slide it in? or did you have to wiggle it inbetween the C channels?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Do you have any historical performance data on how that rustoleoum holds up? I can't imagine it's anywhere close to what the factory does and we know that doesn't hold up. I'm in the middle of fixing my LBZ and I'm debating what coating to use.
The black box that has lines coming from it, is that for gas engines only? My 2007 2500 had classic duramax doesn’t have that when I took my bed off. Thanks
I’m glad I found your page. I’ve been debating on fixing the rust on mine VS getting another truck. Your videos have me thinking more positive about just keeping it and fixing it. I’ve got 211,000mi but it runs great. What would you do ? Sincerely appreciate you opinion. So many ppl say to get rid of it, but I’ve also seen diehard duramax owners fix worse. I’m just torn between spending the money on a newer truck or putting the money into a truck that’s worth less. Decisions - decisions.
