Geoff always does well with these kind of songs..but let’s be honest I’ve yet to find anything he’s covered that hasn’t been excellent ❤
I was in high school when Jim Croce started singing in 1966. My husband and I were heartbroken when his plane crashed. I was thrilled to find that Geoff was doing one of his songs. I'd love to hear him do Time in a Bottle or maybe Operator.
Geoff did actually make a bit of a change on this. He dialed the guitar volume way back ,, giving us a much more percussion heavy feel. Croce’s original felt more folksy, story-time with a bit of a hoppy beat to it. But this felt a bit more menacing. And I love the bluesy embellishments in it.
A bass with the ability to reach higher notes fully in chest still have some tells that let us know their real voice type. Even though Geoff can get to B4 in chest, his onsets in his neutral larynx position (before his larynx raises slightly for the higher note) always have that thickness like a bass. As a bass, this quality is nearly impossible to get rid of; Geoff is just the smoothest at doing it I have ever heard.
The original was recorded by Jim Croce in 1972 (he followed it up with Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown). Geoff really enjoyed the scatting at the end. He decided, since this song was about a bloody battle, he'd darken the tone when compared to the original. This was filmed by Geoff and Kathy with at "a random studio in Orlando" as the PattyCake Production's studio was busy. This video was fueled by peanut butter and jam sandwiches.

Great cover of classic Jim Croce. In spite of having such a short career Jim had a huge number of great songs. You can't really go wrong with anything on the album 'You Don't Mess Around with Jim' even the 32 track 2006 re-released version, or anything on the album 'Life and Times'.

Love me some Geoff. Voiceplay is so wonderful. Hey if you get a chance, please check out a guy called Drake Livingston. His songs are amazing, and he is only 21, bullied at school, on the autistic spectrum and diagnoses with Aspbergers , he has been writing songs since he was 12. Best songs to check out are " Last Man Standing" or "Shadow". Not sure why no one is talking about this guy cause his voice is so unique.

This song reminds me of ain't no sunshine. The original was good but the lyrics didn't match the tone of the song. Geoff fixed it in both cases. Now it's the right song with less guitar and more beat.

Never heard anyone say Geoff is monotone before. Truly baffling. The man is an incredible singer with a vast range.
