Just in case no one's mentioned this you should check out his singing in Journey 2 Mysterious Island!!! He did well for the famous song he sang in it.
This is Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, I first heard him sing in Journey To The Center of The Earth 2. His voice is really amazing, he's also sung this live a couple of times.

Yes many of the big numbers in Moana including this one were written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Also Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa'i did some of the songs from the soundtrack. As you say, Lin-Manual Miranda has a very distinctive style - often there is some speak singing or rapping involved. There is a great behind-the-scenes video of Dwayne Johnson learning and recording 'You're welcome' - as the rap section was very fast and tricky to do!
Not directly related to the singing, but you may know that Maui was based on a real figure in Polynesian mythology and the feats described in the song are attributed to him. For example he talks about lassoing the sun. According to the original myth, the day originally passed too quickly for people to properly do their work and find food. Maui, with the help of his brothers, lassoed and tied the legs of the sun together, forcing it to go slower and lengthening the day. many of his feats are even more badass.
As is often the case in movies, the truth behind them is more awesome than you see on screen.
She should react to the version of this song with Jordan Fischer and Lin Manuel. It’s very good 👍🏼

You should watch the recording of this song. You can see the rock having so much fun, giving it his all, and Lin Manuel Miranda is coaching him on his rap.
Maui is a trickster, just like Coyote. The entire song is basically him weaving a spell around Moana to the point that she doesn't notice what he was doing until he pushes her into a cave and closes the door. It's so effective that as someone who was seeing it for the first time he was even able to pull you in. The signs are there.. he just wants the boat because since he can't float, he can't actually leave the island. He thinks he needs to trick someone to get out, so that's what he does.

When it comes to musicals in general (like Moana), it's always the same one or two people that write all of the music for the whole musical (I honestly can't think of any musical where multiple people wrote their owns songs and put them in a movie unless it's a jukebox musical where premade songs are mashed together to tell a story).
So, yeah, Lin-Manuel Miranda was responsible for writing all of the songs with some help from Opetaia Foa'i with songs involving non-English languages (you hear both of them sing in "We Know The Way" as Foa'i sings in Samoan and Lin sings in English) as well as composer Mark Mancina who worked on the instrumentals/score (he also helped Hanz Zimmer with Lion King while also being responsible for the scores of Tarzan, Brother Bear, Criminal Minds, and the Bad Boys franchise).

The Rock has sung in a few of his movies... In "The Game Plan", he sings "Are You Lonesome Tonight" to his daughter in the movie. It is cute, but he is actually good. And he sang "What a Wonderful World" with some additional made up lyrics to fit the movie in "Journey to the Center of the Earth 2".

Lin-Manuel also wrote songs for another movie called Vivo. I recommend to listen to a few of the songs from that movie or even watch it. Lin-Manuel is actually the main character in that movie.
