"That dude from Hamilton" is Christopher Jackson who played Washington, and apparently little Moana was sung by Louise Bush(?) from what I can find.

I think you slightly misunderstood - the voice of Moana is Auliʻi Cravalho, who IS Polynesian (Hawaiian), but she's lighter skinned, so she wanted someone who's darker-skinned like Moana to represent the character live. I saw an interview where she mentioned wanting someone younger to play the character as well, since she's already in her 20s & Moana's supposed to be a teen (& who knows when filming will even start?). So it's not that she's bad representation for the character exactly, but that she wants more Polynesian girls to also be represented.
Disney's (rightfully) getting a lot of negative feedback for hiring a lighter-skinned girl to play Nani in the upcoming live Lilo & Stitch movie, so they need to pay more attention to their representation if they want to keep fans happy.
I'm whiter than white so I don't mean this in a bad way or to offend anyone I'm just trying to understand, but I worry about the message to lighter skinned POCs. Like isn't that saying to them "you aren't a POC enough to represent your culture"?
For real though its kinda messed up how they do that
@@caitlynskiff2001 I mean, let's think about the other side here though. There are dark skinned POC who are constantly passed up for roles, especially lead roles due to this conscious and subconscious belief and epidemic that lighter skin looks "better." Lighter skinned people of color have always been chosen as the main representation for as long as cinema was made. That is why people are pushing for talented dark skinned people to finally get a chance for these kinds of roles. All light skinned POC such as myself can do is understand that in the bigger picture, representation for ALL POC is important, not just for one kind of POC.

Unpopular opinion: This is the best song of the whole movie. I like it better than How Far I'll Go. Not to say it's a bad song at all, but this song is so amazing.
Moana’s mother’s voice is Nicole Scherzinger. Would love to see you react to more of her. She’s got quite a few performances of Broadway songs. And her version of Beauty and the Beast with Luke Evans is beautiful.

I sob when I hear “I am Moana” I lost my grandma at a young age (11, I am now 25) so when I hear this song I get teary eyed thinking of the stuff I miss about her and the stuff I missed out on

I love the fact that even at the end, not only she looked back at the grandma, but you can tell she tried her hardest to steel herself and forced a smile to proceed, somehow still unconvinced if she was making the right choice.

My single quibble with this song is that they didn't let Chief Tui's voice actor sing in this song. I love Chris Jackson, don't get me wrong, but Temuera Morrison is ALSO a beautiful singer and it makes no sense that he wasn't allowed to sing this song for the character. He didn't even get to sing it in the Māori dub, just to add extra salt to the wound!

I have watched this movie many times.. To the point my roomies are sick of it.. Now the only part I ever cry at is when Tifiti comes back into her nature self.. It's such a powerfully animated scene for me.. Gets me every time.. Now the death of the grandmother moves me but does not make me cry.. I think because there is that transformation where she leaves as the manta ray.. It is a beautiful scene. (Course I am also an artist and draw a lot so I do look at the visuals a bit more then listen to the vocals though the songs in this are amazing.. have the sound track to it)
I love this film, First time I watched it I was just there for the pig but over time I’ve grown to adore the whole thing so much

When roughly is Mamma Mia 2 released? I plan on doing what I did previously and joining the movie patreon to watch all the film watch parties I’ve missed over the course of a month - I’m in the TV series patreon but I definitely can’t keep up both currently so I just join the movie one every now and again to catch up on any of the ones I want to watch.

The new Moana in the live- action is Zendaya Coleman. but Auli'i Carvalho is going to be a producer of the live-action film
Auli'i Cravalho is Polynesian, Zendaya isn't. I did see an AI generated live action poster with Zendaya's face on it. Auli'i made a statement that someone younger should play the role; she's 22, Zendaya is 26. I've heard a lot of people spout the idea that her decision was because of colorism, but afaik Auli'i has never made any reference to that so prob just rumours.
