Robin Roberts was a pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies 1948-61. His uniform number 36 was retired by the team when he left. He died last year and for the remainder of their 2010 season, the Philadelphia Phillies wore a commemorative #36 patch on their uniforms.

I saw Robin Roberts in another of his off-season endeavors while he was still the ace of the Phillies pitching staff. He led a barnstorming basketball team; and, one of his players was fellow Phillies pitcher, lefthander Curt Simmons. I can't remember the year (or who won), but I believe the game was played in "The Little Palestra" in Allentown, PA against a team of local players. Teammate Simmons grew up in nearby Egypt, PA.

I remember as a kid growing up going to Baltimore Orioles games and seeing Robin Roberts pitch when Earl Weaver was the manager.

Robbie pitched with Baltimore from 1962-1965.
