    This is possibly the best scene in any movie. Everything about it, Eli Wallch's performance, the amazing camerawork that gets more and more disorienting, and the Ecstasy of Gold is the best track on what is probably the best soundtrack ever. Every time I watch this movie I'm blown away by this scene, and I have the same feeling that made me fall in love with cinema.

      Only to be topped by the next scene !! The trio !! By far and away the best last 15 minutes in movie history . By the moment Eli wallach enters the cemetery till the end credits , it’s pure anxiety, hair revising and ecstasy, dopamine release without equal in film.

    The director decided to release his pet dog at the start of the take so it would be in the scene also, without Eli Wallach being aware of it. Eli's startled reaction at seeing the dog was genuine.

      always wondered about that bit so did a little fact check on this and seems legit. somehow that scene adds a lot of effect but also where was that dog running to or what was it running after? did the director train the dog to take that path? an answer leading to many more questions. used to think that was just a random dog that photo bombed the scene and it was left in the take for budgetary reasons.

    Sergio Leone caught lightning in a bottle when he made this movie! The acting, the music, the directing, everything is brilliant. It has a epic feel to it. How Leone shifts from serious moments to comedy without compromising the tone of the film by going overboard. It's a very funny film but its not a comedy, he gets the balance perfect. One of the top 5 to top 10 best movies ever made and definitely the best cowboy/ western film ever made.

    I watched this with my dad and brothers in our living room back in the 70's, I was just a boy. All these years later THIS VERY SCENE STILL takes my breath away and humbles me feeling the anxiety, excitement, frustration and even fear that he won't find the grave. The music is so powerful, it slowly grows to an unbelievable tempo in which your mind is just racing.... just like Tuco's heart as he searches desperately for Arch Stanton's grave.

    I still get goosebumps at this scene and the final duel scene, even after 40+ years of watching.
    Sergio Leone, Ennio Morricone, and the three gunmen Tuco, Blondie and Sentenza. The perfect combo and absolute highlight of the Dollar trilogy. This epic western tale isn't just a movie, it's a MASTERPIECE, a class of its own.

    Arguably the best scene in the best film ever made. It’s hard to say which scene is the best as there are so many in this ground-breaking western. This film set a new standard for westerns; influenced and inspired many actors, directors and cinematographers. No one has managed to even close to this classic piece of cinema, but many have tried to replicate it. Director Sergio Leone (an Italian) created the myth that became the American West. The number of ‘western’ parodies are countless too!

      Because the movie isn't American and because Euro westerns were looked down upon around that time in the States. That’s Sergio Leona’s dog. He reportedly released him to startle Eli who was afraid of dogs in an attempt to lighten up the scene. As with everything else in this perfect movie, it worked.

    • @indialamotte6470
      @indialamotte6470 8 місяців тому +2

      @@mrmeerkat1096 All three of the movies in the trilogy were actually filmed without audio and dubbed over in post (as was relatively common practice in Italy at the time, and an almost-necessity for Leone's directing style, which supposedly included shouting direction during takes and playing music to set the mood), so it's rather likely that they didn't do anything and yelp was simply added later for dramatic effect.

    There is just something about old movies that is so ethereal, surreal, and takes you to a completely different world, the music, the acting, the dialogues, the theme, it's all so mesmerizing, it's like movies themselves have a soul to it, modern movies lack souls, but these old movies have so much depth to them.

      @@akira-qr4qm I think this is an East European translation. Blind people would have no clue what is happening for the first minutes.

    So we need a soundtrack for a scene where the character is running around the cemetery looking for the grave, could you do that?
    Ennio morricone: say less

    Everyone involved in this is great, but this scene is all about Morricone's score. Watch it without the music and you'll see. The score expresses ECSTACY, all right--it's not just about "Hey, we found the money!" It's about Wallach's character's OBSESSION with just getting the gold, which he'll spend in a few weeks, no doubt. And go look for more.
    Ennio just grabbed the scene by the horns and dominated it.

    That voice saying Arch Stanton ruined the clip. You can’t improve perfection.
