  • Today I'm talking with Dr. Conor Brady, author of the fantastic new book, Feeding Dogs: The Science Behind The Dry Versus Raw Debate. The following article covers many of the highlights of our discussion, but I encourage you to watch the full video as well.
Dr. Conor Brady is the author of a groundbreaking new book titled “Feeding Dogs: The Science Behind the Dry Versus Raw Debate.
Dr. Brady’s passion for food-as-medicine arose from the plight of his 7-year-old dog with debilitating hip dysplasia.
Dr. Brady was improving the health of his own dog and the guide dogs he trained with raw diets, but the vets and others he worked with were uninterested - so he struck out on his own to make the case for feeding raw.
His incredibly well-researched and footnoted book is the result of a decade of work; it makes complex topics understandable and digestible for both veterinarians and pet parents.
Of particular benefit is the proof the book provides that ultra-processed pet food is tied directly to the epidemic of diseases in today’s canine companions.

The first quarter of the year was all about survival with many achievements not met but you have to be ready for second quarter and it begins right now by making a move to achieve your goals…If you have been saving and it’s not really getting you to were you want to be, then invest that money today for a better life tomorrow. If you can’t fly, run, if you can’t run walk, if you can’t walk crawl but just try and move to achieving your goals.

As a person who has fed my working dogs raw diets since the late 1980‘ S, this veterinarian knows exactly what he’s talking about and is spot-on with recommendations and knowledge.
When you think of it, dogs did not run around hunting pellet food until the late 1940‘s or early 1950’s when significant health issues began to manifest in wide numbers of canine populations. My working dogs are benefiting to such an extent from these changes that I would not go back.

Wow thank you both so much! from years of trying to convince various vets there is a better way!-and being actually told years ago feeding my dogs raw was wrong!! I'm going to buy a copy for our local vets in the hope that at least a few or just 1 will read it and start to use their own clever brains to do their own research and NOT just remain indoctrinated by outdated vet school learnt information funded by big greedy pet food companies! Well done Conor- this world needs brave people to stick their neck out-I congratulate you!

We have changed our Golden Retriever to a fresh food diet for the last 6 weeks - wow what difference❤️ in his short year long life he has suffered with skin allergies and has cost us a small fortune in vet fees - so far his skin has returned to its normal color and that funny yeast smell from him is gone - his vitality has improved 10 fold - he is one different Dog 🐕

I can’t believe I’m just learning about all of this, but so glad that invaluable information like this is readily available for people wanting to do better for their companions.
We’ve lost so many companions to cancer and I just knew there has to be another way, there has to be something I can do differently. It’s unfortunate that so many lives have been lost and so much suffering had to happen for us to get here but today is the first day of the rest of our companions lives and now that we know better we will do better.
    Thank you.

This is exactly how the human medical industry is too. same system. doctors look for pharmacological solutions to manage symptoms because that's what the drug companies teach them and pay them to do. An example is that we know how to cure cancer through diet, but we're still "looking for a cure", by which they mean a drug that everyone will have to be on for their entire lives to avoid getting cancer. It's not profitable for drug companies to fix the problem, managing symptoms are where the big bucks are at
    Thank you for this conversation!

I couldn't believe it when I took my dog to my Holistic/Natural Vet for an eye issue and she asked what I was feeding him. I told her raw at night and freeze-dried raw in the morning. She started shaking her head and told me that every dog that comes into her practice that is fed a raw diet ends up being aggressive. Huh? I think I better find another Holistic /Natural Vet.

I have a question about the plant material that Dr. Brady recommends. I've been following the carnivore diet for humans closely, and we have about 10 years of feedback from people who have gone carnivore. My girlfriend and I have gone carnivore as a result, and all we eat is fatty muscle meat (mostly beef, some pork, some fish), eggs, salt, and butter. We have a 10 month old pup, and I'm trying to apply the info about the carnivore diet to the pup's diet, while also taking into account that we're different animals (the pup eats raw muscle meat, frozen for a period of time to kill parasites, and dehydrated raw bone/liver/muscle treats with minimal ingredients to supplement). My question is; is there any evidence that the dog NEEDS the vegetation, or is that an assumption? I haven't had a vegetable in about 5 years and I don't miss it for a second (I haven't had any side effects, and my digestion is much better without). And we have CRYSTAL CLEAR evidence that humans don't need fiber for any reason; the carnivore diet is a 0 fiber diet and we have thousands of testimonials online of people going 0 fiber and their digestion problems going away completely (myself being one of them). Humans have a higher carnivore rating than dogs, and dogs are more scavengers than humans, which favors the idea of having more vegetation. I'm hoping either of you could clarify for me. I'm doing everything I can to leave my biases at the door and to give my pup the longest healthiest life that I can.

Long as the focus is on balanced natural approaches to resolve issues, particularly diets closer to what a carnivore is designed to eat things are good.
But if you go to too far into homeopathy things can get shakey no?

I think the opposite, the more natural your dog is the healthier and more robust they become. Wild animals don't go to the vet and they have very few diseases.

I have a highly allergic pup thats been struggling bad this whole first year. I tried herbals, topicals, etc when she was young and have tried to do homemade food her whole life and she reacts so bad, I recoil back to high end kibble. I want to switch to raw and she is reactive to everything she consumes, I'm sure from antibiotic caused leaky gut??!. So she is on a prescription amino acid kibble. I want her on whole food raw so bad, makes so much since to me. ALL VETS, even holistic, are saying she is immune compromised and we need to rebuild her gut first, as I am trying so hard. ( Fecal Biome, fermented food, vitamin D supplement, etc) BUT I want to get her nutrition so she doesn't end up on another round of antibiotics etc. She is constantly living with skin infections. How does she get better while on this high carb kibble? If Dr. Karen Becker gets this, or others that can offer advise, I am very interested in your response of taking the leap to switch and get through the reaction and hope to come out the other side with her able to rebuild her immunity. BUT without infections or parasites etc. due to weakened/lacking (or hyperactive) immune system.
I am very passionate about healing my baby. Thank you

@@8675-__ Thank you so much Ann. I sincerely appreciate your care and willingness to reach out. 🙏🏼I actually took the leap of faith on my own and went 100% raw. She’s been doing amazing! What a great change of life to get to where we are now. I have learned through this process that she actually has reactivity to many supplements added to food too(vitamin/ minerals). So even the premade raw does not work for her as she will get excessively itchy and even have a skin reaction. Whole food raw beef (meat, organs, bone) with green tripe been our savior. She gets cooked green beans, broccoli, zucchini, in daily rotation. Duck necks. Blueberries. We have a whole food list that she is good with. We do have powdered kelp too. 😉
What a life changing difference. I’m thankful for Dr. Karen Becker for her book. As well as this whole community that gave me the strength to trust taking the leap. Took me lots of hurtles but we are here and doing amazing. Thank you so much.

Having “Dr.” in front of his name and the description of this video including “how he became a vet” is EXTREMELY misleading because this man is not a vet. He has a doctorate in animal behavior. He is not a DVM.

From what the two doctors were talking about, we'd be waiting a heck of a long time for a vet to write a book such as this. Most vets seem completely uninterested in pet nutrition. If Dr Becker recommends and loves this book, that's good enough for me ... and good on Dr Brady for sharing his passion for this topic.
