I'm a devoted Periphery rat and I will never forgive Comstar for what they did regarding the Tripitz. We nearly had a Star League era WarShip flying Periphery colours. I seethe every single goddamn day.

And how long would it KEEP flying??? One of the little things Battletech skips over is how much constant maintenance & expensive support such complex spacecraft would need.
And what are "Periphery colours"? They aren't notably more unified than the Successor States.

@@ALV694 I find the notion of cooperation between different Periphery states very appealing. I would avoid getting too close to the Capellans and would prefer closer ties with non Great House powers. But this may be just wishful thinking. I really like the cooperation that developed between the Filtvelt Coalition, Fiefdom of Randis, Calderon Protectorate and to a lesser extent the Fronc Reaches.

I began my career as a Periphery Rat, and 8 can attest that the TC is a Great House in all but name. It survived SLDF aggression better than most, and was spared the Clan Invasion ravages.
With Liao posturing to move toward Terra in the ilClan era, I can see expansion or strengthening happening for the TC...with less of a constant bomb threat from the Capellans

    • @ALV694

Cappellans helped modernize the TC military but TC dissolved that alliance and got in another war with Davion, and as a result their industry got destroyed. Now they are back to being obsolete as they are forced to make retro tech mechs. Only another alliance with capellans can help rebuild their industry and tech AGAIN.

@@GeofftheIronwolf The Taurian industrial base was devastated by the Roughriders, and the Concordat lost yet more industrial production when the Federated Suns conquered a number of Taurian worlds. While the Concordat gained control over the worlds of the Pleiades Cluster, the military industry on Perdition and Taurus was effectively destroyed, while production facilities on Sterope, MacLeod's Land and Celano would take years to recover. The Concordat also lost worlds such as Perdition and Organo to the Federated Suns, losing more industry - and in the case of Organo, the Organo Flight Academy. The Concordat was forced to increase the production of RetroTech equipment in an era when the Inner Sphere nations were shutting down their own RetroTech production lines; the Taurian Defense Force had been so badly damaged that it was predicted that the enlarged production of RetroTech equipment would continue until at least 3086 as a part of the rebuilding effort.[21]

    Hello Grim.
I must admit here that I took quite a few pages from the Magistracy and Concordiat when I set up my own 'government'.
Although my 'Constitutional Tyranny' is a bit 'weird', it works and has quite a few features of both worlds. Including the participation of the citizenry, good health care, education, and freedom to express opinions.
The Tyrant is an 'elected' office, although drawn from only one family line and its scions. It acts quite a bit like the King or Queen of England in most respects. The 'day-to-day' governance of the Compact is headed by the Procouncil, who for the most part acts like the President of the United States of America. Including the assembly of a working group of Heads of Departments and a Procouncil's Staff.
Since the government was founded by a Mercenary Company (which was actually a Battalion in size), the original Commander of the Mercs was elected as the First Tyrant of the Stygia System. The Tyrant demanded a representative government, without 'nobles', and thus the Constitutional Tyranny was born. For all intents and purposes, the Government under the Procouncil is representative of the population's desire for leaders. And it has many 'checks and balances' to keep it fairly and uniformly honest for the most part. Any 'seat holder' in any governmental posting can be subjected to a pretty intensive review if enough evidence is found for dishonesty.
Being founded by a Mercenary Company that was betrayed in battle, as well as those they took with them into the Deep Periphery from many worlds, mostly the disaffected and 'poor', who were granted a new life on a new world, the citizens of the Compact are highly motivated to never again be under the kind of rule their ancestors suffered.
Although this may all sound 'perfect', it is not. Being a government created by Humans, it has it's flaws and occasional 'hiccups', and even periods of outright 'dirty' politics.

The Taurian paranoia of the Federation was always an annoying feature of the setting. The two countries that should have been the most closely aligned, even shared a border. But the Taurians, always assuming that whatever was happening (even the Clan invasion) was just ruse by Davion's MIIO to get the Taurians to lower their guard so the Davions could invade (even though the Davions never really invaded - and never really had plans to).
They even opened their doors to the Blakists because the Wobbies were hitting the Davions so hard. Even when the Wobbies dropped a flurry of meteors on New Samatha and leveled the city, the Taurians still blamed the Davions for it.
It's interesting that it was exactly that paranoia that finally prompted the Calderons (long the ruling family of the Concordat) to succeed and form the Protectorate (which maintained relatively decent relations with the Federated Suns, especially to deal with the pirates around Tortuga.
But, GDN you missed something important. The "unofficial religion" of the concordat: the Far Lookers - the closest thing to Starfleet you'll find in the Battletech setting.

Without outside help, the insurgency will get attritioned to death.
In the closing days of capellans campaign against the republic of the sphere, the big Mac mercs encountered a huge contingent of industrial mechs being armed with whatever weapons they can find.
The big Mac Lance only consisted of small "gún" mechs, u would think the insurgents would win, but the big Mac mechs comes equipped with tag, and later missiles from beyond the combat zone devasted the force, and survivors were mopped up by the small mechs.
