Again, having as template the idealized America-that-was, peak 20th century. With some real-world ideal-but-inaccurate perceptions of the U.N. thrown in.
Quite motley combos of Old Earth cultural bases within the various sectors. Funny that an “anarchic commune” would institute its own law, and ironic that such a group is willingly superseded by federal authority. It would be the citizenry's reponsibility to safeguard and ensure the trustworthiness and absence of corruption within their legal system, to be wary rather than so given over to self-adjudication by their judges. I suppose the jurisdictionary divsions do resolve to institutionally insure against such a perpetual issue. Once more, the restraint of federal authority enshrined into law affords the “freedom” of these worlds' association. A yearly subscription to roaming casino enforcers is amusing; a touch of space Vegas.
Established education reflects the freedom of the League and the foundations of the real-world American model, as does the flip side of academia, for good and ill. The veritably institutionalized overdominant industry of TV junkies is sadly a true reflection to reality but at least literature remains readily available and marketed. While it's curiously interesting that such a rejection of bionics is so exaggeratedly, nationally widepread. Perhaps that reflects an overall civilian distrust of Lostech.
Load up the FWL minivan for a tour of the town, like a local. I wonder if the Free World's coinage are actually minted out of the same metals their colouring indicates...or whether that too, is like reality. Thank you for informing us on 'real' life in the Free Worlds, GDN - for starters. This faction's realm does seem like an appealing state to live under. “Free”, after all. 'Til you next drop by in an FWL logger 'Mech for more parlay on non-military League life, in the new year, have a healthily awesome day, Narrator.

After the Federated Suns and the Lyran Commonwealth the Free Worlds League would be my third pick for where I would like to live in the BattleTech universe.
Seems like a decent enough place to live.
I want to add that just like you GrimDark, this is the faction that I forget the most myself.

Personally I’d love to live in the Free Worlds League but specifically in Marik Space due to the maximum amount of freedom and luxury. I like that they have one of the best trained militaries, and that they don’t rely on autocanons thus increasing their ability to engage in long term warfare as they rely on laser and PPCs. This would mean lower taxes, and more tech jobs for civilians. Also the presence of a militia for the sole purpose of keeping the government in check that is directly supported by the civilians of the FWL also attracts me as an American and Pro second amendment citizen (and no the national guard is not the militia they answer directly to the government and have always turned against the civilian population in every single time of crisis. They are the army’s domestic security force. Not the militia). Unlike house Davion and Steiner the militia isn’t there as a volunteer brand of the military it’s there as a check against the military which shows that the FWL is very much aware of the downfalls of absolute power. Thus the citizen is ensured guaranteed freedom as they can use the same weapons as the government. (If you can afford to that is).
All in all the FWL is sorely underrated and underrepresented in this setting and should’ve had a much larger role to play in the war against the clanners than just there minor conflict with Jade Falcon. At the very least they should’ve had some involvement at Tukkyaad as they are a staunch supporter of ComStar and almost as well trained as they are. And while I am a Taurian to the bitter end, if I had to pick an Innersphere house to alight with it would be the Free Worlds League.
Good work as always Grim. Very well researched and always a pleasure to hear your thoughts on the setting. Keep up the good work my friend.

Oh boy at 12:04 looks like Tallarn an Imperial guard deal gone wrong, plus that security man at 13:28 looks like he's having a really sad day watching all the bad things going on those monitors and 14:50 love the artwork free world's League
The home of the unexpected and not so interesting security guard jobs 😁👍

It’s a shame about the bionics and generally transplants really.
Cool to hear a tad more about industrial mechs as a specialty.
