Hi mate, yes, it's excellent value for money, the wider is a different patern, its shorter and wetter so sprays different, I'm doing a comparison video of the two soon, back to back, cheers 👍
Hi Mate, I haven't used either so I can't say, I have used the Kiwami4 in 1.8 and was a little disappointed, it doesn't seem to flow much material which I like for high build primer. The Wider4 in 1.8 is similar, I'm told. The cap only has 2 air holes in total, although I've also been told that Iwata recommend the 2.5 version for HB primer. I know someone with the Sata, and he likes it but has it in 1.4 for WOW, so it may not be applicable to 1.8. The ANI F160 in 1.9 is my favourite, along with the Sagola 3300 1.8 EPA
I just picked one up and was really impressed with this gun after using it. This is my first iwata in my collection ( Petes syndrome) Haha!! I blended a front bumper repair with it and it layed out a perfect flat finish. Pete whats the difference between this and the lph400 or new series 2?
Hi buddy, Oh dear, I didn't realise they had named a syndrome after me 🤣. The LPH400, which I have never used , the Wider4L and Series 2 all use a 4 split nozzle, and it does make a difference. You'll notice the gun, like for like tip size, is much slower, atomises finer, and generally uses much more air, I'll put a link at the bottom of this on the Wider4L which explains the differences more right at the start 👍 ua-cam.com/video/MxuBVPL104g/v-deo.html
Pete, it seems the Kiwami4 has made a big price jump in the last 2 years and the Wider4 is cheaper, like where the Kiwami4 was, given that, which on would you pick?
Hi Buddy, It depends on what you want, really. I actually prefer the Wider4 pattern, which is smaller and wetter, which is ideal if you like a faster gun. It's also often better for clearcoat. The Kiwami4 BA4J is a better gun for those new to painting as it's easier to use due to it bigger pattern. Certainly, if there's a big price difference, I'd go with the Wider4
Hi Pete! It looks like all the Widers have a smaller pattern and the spray wetter. Compared to the LPH400, the Wider 4L sprays almost the same with a wetter and smaller pattern. By the way I couldn't see the link to buy the WS400 series 2 in the review you made.
Hi Rigal , sorry i didn't put a link on the series 2 WS400 ,i got it off ebay but all the suppliers are UK only at the moment as it's not released until November in most places. Yes, the J2 cap on the Wider4 is the same for the tips up to 1.6 so they will all be the smaller wetter pattern, the Wider4L is a bigger pattern and not as wet, it puts out less material for the same tip size but the atomisation is a little finer and the pressure is much lower, if you want a link for the WS400 series 2 i can post it, cheers 👍
Hey Pete, I did my first full car a couple years ago with a Devilbiss FLG5. I'm restoring another car and getting ready to paint, and wanted to try an Iwata this time around. I was looking at the Wider4L as it has similar air consumption to the FLG5 (on paper). Just wanted your opinion on what gun you'd consider moving to coming from an FLG5.
Hi buddy, The Wider4L has a higher air consumption than the FLG5, I haven't looked at the figures, but I'm sure that's the case. If I were to recommend one in the FLG5 price range, I would say the ANI F160, or, if you can stretch to it, an Iwata Kiwami4 BA4J, the Wider4L is a very good gun but for a complete car would be slow which could cause problems with keeping the materials "open" depending on temperatures and it uses more air
Hi buddy, thank you, the pattern on the Wider4 is quite different to the Kiwami4, it's certainly a smaller wetter pattern which I like, more of an "O" pattern than an "I", It's a great clear gun as it makes it faster which some will like👍
It's a bit wetter than the LV2 I find which I like, I've done a video with a clear coat, just need to voice it, it's very good, the smaller wetter pattern suits clear well
I’m on the fence of getting the wider 4 vs the kiwami 4 which would you suggest getting I need the gun to spray clear and what tip diameter would work best . Thanks in advance
Hi Jason, they are the same bar the cap which makes a lot of difference, the wider is a smaller wetter pattern, I prefer it for clear as it makes it faster but the Kiwami4 isn't at all slow compared to most, 1.3 is the best around for clear coat 👍
Hi Pete, first off mate a huge congrats on the 2K subs milestone Pete it's well deserved for all the great videos you do, I really like the way you do them and the voice over is spot on👏 I still wish I could do them but you know why I can't👍 Anyway the Wider4 really laid the base nice and smooth and as you said it put a good wet coat down, do you think this gun lays basecoat better than the DV1 mate? I've gone back to the 1.2 on my DV1 even though the 1.3 put a wetter coat on the final finish on the base wasn't as smooth as the 1.2, not sure why that is but maybe it's just me. I'm considering getting the WS400 OBS next year for base but also maybe something like you were using here, just not sure as yet🤷♂😆😂 thanks Pete👍
Thanks John, it only seems a short while ago i was saying 1,000 subs so yes, quite happy, views are around 39,000 a month now which i could only have dreamt of really. The Wider4 was a real surprise, not because of how good it is but because its so different to the Kiwami4 and its only the cap that's changed! It would certainly give you a wetter faster finish than the DV1 but it's not better, bear in mind your criteria is different to some others in that flatness of finish is your main priority whereas for most its probably not, within reason of course. I think its good to have a base coat not completely flat as it helps the clear grip something and the clear smooths it out anyway. I've always thought the DV1 was a really good base gun so you'll find it hard to beat, the Sagola Xtreme 4600 Aqua is really good and the Kiwami4 WB, also the LS400 series1 especially with the tip lined up like the Series2😁. I will get a LS400 Series2 or OBS but I'll wait for the price to come down first or fix a few cars 😉 Thanks for watching mate as always, much appreciated 👍
Thanks for the info Pete, it's really surprising the difference the aircap makes to a gun as you mentioned both guns have the same body, tip and needle the only difference is the cap which makes them both different guns to use. I'm probably wrong but I'm starting to think the slower guns give a better flatter finish, it must be down to the finer atomisation that makes them slower🤔 I'll probably get the WS400 OBS as the LS will be to air hungry for my setup even though it's similar to yours but I have the airfed to run as well, I've got all those clear guns but only one dedicated base gun, that needs to change😂😂👍
Yeah, it does often seem the case that the slower gun's can give a better finish, i think because less material is leaving the tip it's atomised finer, that's why often the smaller tips on the bigger gun's produce really good finishes 👍
I own the kiwami4 and for the $170 it sprays exceptionally well.
Hi mate, yes, it's excellent value for money, the wider is a different patern, its shorter and wetter so sprays different, I'm doing a comparison video of the two soon, back to back, cheers 👍
Looking forward pete to see whitch gun 🔫 you use for the clear coat on the bumper may be mate the Ani 200 1.3 clear
Congrats on hitting the 2000 well deserved mate 👏👏👏
Thanks Dean mate 👍
Another great vid. Loving that colour!
Thank you Ash, much appreciated 👍
how would this gun with a 1.8 tip do for a primer Anest Iwata WIDER4-18N2 ? vs teh sata 100 BF RP pete ?
