    1. Traveling to different cities and experiencing the local stations is half the charm of FM.
    2. Everyone already knows and expects FM radio to have lower quality and ads.
In my opinion, Apple just didn't include it because it's free music and they aren't getting a cut on it at all unlike apps or Apple services.

@@gamgnamstile That makes no sense. First of all, I have a few of Apple’s latest devices including the iPad and iPhone. Second, I see little downsides in letting consumers see if they like FM or not, instead Apple went with what they thought consumers would think.
Also, you seem to be extremely narrow minded. What else is Apple doing it for other than the money? Let’s go with the justification this channel used and say FM radio is low quality and goes against Apple’s tradition of presenting high quality products. Consumers are expecting high quality products and would not be happy with FM supposedly. Therefore, less people would buy it (or less retention) due to having an Apple integrated app with poor quality. I’m not sure when a corporation would implement a change with the goodness of their heart. Any and every change is done purposely with the means of getting more/keep consumers to buy their product or to reduce cost. Some have a greater opportunity cost (and are more blatantly obvious) than others, but in the end, the goal is the same: anything added is a feature or removed is lack there of.

While I agree that FM radio in 2022 isn't what it used to be (at least in the U.S.), I'm not sure I can agree that including FM radio functionality in the iPhone would really hurts the consumer experience that much. There are still situations in which AM/FM radio is still useful, especially in emergency situations, and I am hard pressed to see how the inclusion of a radio app/FM functionality hurts consumer, (even if they don't really use it). I would think that even young iPhone owners known enough about AM/FM radio to know that radio stations only broadcast locally and thus your favorite local station won't be available when traveling outside their coverage area unless they stream over the internet too. The lack of FM radio on iPhones isn't a deal breaker but i enjoyed the FM ratio feature on my old iPod nano 6th Gen so I not sure why Apple turned against the idea when it came to the iPhone.

It's because it doesn't give that perfect "just works" feel to it, when you're listening to radio and it's got so much static, or it breaks up when you're going under a bridge. It's not clean enough for Apple. And so they're like, whyyyyyy should anyone go for that, when you can just go for Apple music and podcasts instead.
And also, if they were going for that, then they would also eventually have to go for digital portable TV, which you can also receive over radio waves. But of course, when you don't have an actual TV aerial, the signal will often break up and it will make the experience even worse than analogue radio, since it's not just static, but it actually breaks up the digital picture completely when signal isn't strong enough, making it oftentimes totally unwatchable.
So again, it's not "perfect" and that's why apple absolutely hates it.

After all, aren't there apps for various companies which bring us our favourite radio stations such as: iHeart? Also, there is radio in the music app and what about commercial breaks? Last time I checked, no companies advertise Apple products and the closest we get is telecom providers and some of whom also own radio stations, at least in Canada. So, Apple did sneak radio into the iPhone through a native app, but I agree with you that having a radio would cut down on data use while on the go.

I'm sure ad revenue that a small local radio station would have bring would be no threat to a multi-trillion dollar, multi-national corporation like Apple. That ad revenue would benefit local business - I don't know anyone that uses FM radio for the music, it's mostly used for talk programs and news.
I'd agree that a radio makes no sense on an internet-connected device, but I still listen to radio in places like the car.
There's no way in hell I'm ever signing up for a music streaming service, I can't stand streaming. After 20 years, I still curate my iTunes library - which is oddly more useable on Windows than Apple's own music app.

I don't really buy this. Apple doesn't get a cut off of music streaming apps either, and those also have regional restrictions to them. If they didn't implement FM because it has ads, they should have also banned ad-supported music in third-party apps, but they didn't.
I think an easier explanation is that there's no room for an FM antenna in the phone. FM implementations on other phones require you to have headphones plugged in so that the headphone lead can be reused as an antenna. That's actually really inconvenient - you can't use the phone's speaker alone or Bluetooth headsets. A few of the weird-tier iPod nanos DID have FM support, but that's probably because most people are using them with headphones anyway, which would make this limitation less inconvenient.
Furthermore, this feature is really poorly-faced on phones that do have it. When you said "FM Radio is a standard feature on Android phones" I had to double-check, because I never remembered any of my Android phones even having it. Sure enough my LG G7 actually *does* have FM, but it's buried in the NextRadio app that I've literally *never used* because I thought it was just a scummy built-in streaming service.

I have seen on some radio models that support HD Radio that if a radio station were to completely switch to digital, they could unlock four additional subchannels, providing HD5/HD6/HD7/HD8 to their listening area.

The time consuming advertising is in fact a valid issue with respect to FM radio. In the early days of FM, there was one commercial break every 15 minutes. The commercial duration was relatively short, maybe 5 to 7 minutes, then, back to music. As far as Apple not receiving a cut in the ad revenue, I am not aware that Apple receives a cut in ad revenue from such streaming services as MLB TV of Sirius XM (Sirius XM's non music channels, such as news and sports do carry advertising). Furthermore, if you buy a conventional radio from a manufacturer such as Sony or Samsung, the manufacturers not receive advertising revenue for commercials that air on their product. In a similar fashion, I do not know that the manufacturer of a laptop or desktop computer receives a cut in UA-cam advertising revenue when a UA-cam ad airs on a particular laptop.

I would completely replace my car’s radio with my phone if it could also play the radio without using cell data. I like having the limited availability of FM by region as it makes each location you are in somewhat charming in a strange way. Plus there are many emergency related features that having an FM tuner in an iPhone would permit. Local weather, national emergencies would all be improved by there being an FM tuner in the phone and available to use.

Or maybe Apples engineers are given too much credit for what it's worth?
    What do I mean?
Some of Samsung's mid-tier devices internationally have come with FM tuners which work great, nevermind the Ok sound quality plus most have a recording feature as an extra.
Not a Samsung fanboy by the way.
Maybe Apples engineers couldn't be interested to make offline FM work -better- - great as they often like to say on Apple devices.
It would have simply meant wiring up the iPhone optimally for FM through the phone frame or wired earpods which wouldn't be much to do, but they didn't.
Same thing for True Wireless earbuds.
I remember watching iFixit teardowns of Samsung buds like the Galaxy Buds Live a.k.a 'beans' which have easily replaceable batteries.
Not so for Apple Airpods and Airpods Pro. If their batteries run down that's it, you have to buy another set, same for the charging case.
    Guess who benefits.
Some UA-camr even made a vid about this here: ua-cam.com/video/RQqk45ps9kg/v-deo.html
So maybe Apples hardware engineers are good but a half step behind other manufacturers, meaning the reason why FM isn't on the iPhone is that, they couldn't make it work 'great' while concurrently they didn't have a major corporate, commercial incentive to do so.
