This album ages like wine.. the more I listen the more it gets better.. ever inch of this album has a purpose and you will notice that that there is a story to this album and its fun to analyze it.. ex: she says a line on this song and on this song she mentions it again..
I don't like sober when I first listen to it. And I always thought that pure heroine was better. But damn recently I let myself drown in melodrama. Oh GOD every song is freaking incridible.
Supercut's lyric "In my head I do everything right" is not narcissistic because the song is about looking back at an old relationship and reminiscing about the good times "In my head I do everything right" is what she imagines and wishes she could've done for the relationship to be perfect and not fall apart.
fun fact, criminals used to be executed in the back of the louvre so saying "they'll hang us in the louvre, down the back, but who cares" is kind of a double meaning where they'll actually be hung for their crimes, but also hung in a museum
also (commenting as i watch lol) liability reprise is sooo important to the album to me, it shows a turning point in her healing. it echoes how she felt in liability with the chorus (you're a liability, a little much for me...) and then switches to "but you're NOT what you thought you were" she's finally realizing that what everyone told her and got her to believe about her was wrong, she's not a liability, she's not what she thought she was, and ending it with just "leave" is so perfect, she finally has closure on the relationship and this track is placed perfectly on the album!
Tbh I love ALL the songs. When I first listened to it, I only liked specific ones but eventually everything together made such a perfect album. I can listen to the whole album over and over. It’s insane
Btw this album is a concept album and is set in one house party. Each song represents different stages of your experience of being at a party to try and get over someone. Like sober was about she is not sober and sober 2 is about her feeling when she is finally sober.
Supercut gives Lover vibes because Taylor wrote death by a thousand cuts when she watched Something great and in that movie there’s a montage with supercut in the background 💜
this album for me can NEVER be beaten. it is the most cohesive and best executed album ever. i love the production, the lyrics, the melodies, the vocals just everything there is to the album
The album of the Century 💚 Got a 91 metacritic and Got in the best albums of all time . Every lyrics is a poetry and its a perfect marriage to Its Production so you better read and analyze the lyrics because the production is following it, so Genius! 💚 ❤️❤️❤️ 10/10 album for me and my top is forever will be the Louvre.
I feel like at this point u’ve covered my top 5 albums ever: Froot, Melodrama, 1989, Ultraviolence and Dangerous Woman. Yup melodrama is like perfect to me and it’s boppy, yet sad but also introspective and definitely melodramatic.
Idk why it's so much fun watching other people reacting to music! I loved Pure Heroine when it came out but I slept on Melodrama. I just listened the sh*t out of it before I jumped into her newest album. No more sleeping on Lorde. I'm woke now.
Liability (reprise) should be in the album, its the ending of their relationship, And she’s talking with herself (like in the mirror) that’s why in the end of that she said “Leave.” Its so perfect
the way i resented listening to this album for the LONGEST time bc i thought lorde was gonna be a one hit wonder after royals dropped- i regret doing that sm bc her entire discography is THAT BITCH🧎♂️
This album came out when I needed it the most and it filled that void for me. 2017 was such a highlight of my life and Melodrama was part of it ♥️ thank you covering one of my all time favorite pieces of art 💙💙
sometimes I think songs are combined together, like Hard Feelings/Loveless because they are meant to be heard together to get the full story or effect. Think about it, lots of times, especially in the age of streaming, songs get put on shuffle mode and get split up. This keeps them together no matter what. Just my thought.
My fave songs have always changed on this album actually cuz they’re all so top tier but right now id say my faves are Green Light, Writer in the Dark and Perfect Places
I understand your feelings about liability reprise because it did take me a while to enjoy it. But it is the emotional and narrative climax of the album so it does need to be there 100%
Loved this reaction! For me, I love Liability Reprise as it is a call-back to liability. With the personal growth and transformation she undergoes through the album, she realizes that she isn’t a liability “But you’re not what you thought you were.” Definitely think it’s deeply derserving of being on this album.
Another fantastic review - I waited 'till you'd released your Solar Power reaction before retrospectively checking this out. Awesome, wholesome, and raw. Fantastic
i honestly can't pick a favorite - all of them are so GOOD! (or MORE than that) Melodrama really did that. Another one in my top albums. 💙 i've been thinking about how Green Light is the true ending for the album because it's about being ready to move on - while the story only starts in Sober which is having fun/meeting somebody. Still, I understood how Green Light is the intro because it's such a strong opener. BUT it could also mean it's a loop - anyway that's just theories. 💚
@@meyechelangelo lol I’m so happy it made you happy like it did me. Isn’t it just like fucking art? It’s a nice change from her first album. Pure heroine is amazing and it has a lot of themes of “we”. This album has a lot of themes of “me” and I think it’s just heartbreaking how she and Jack arranged the music to tell this story. They did such a good job. It’s one of my favorite albums of all time ♥️
Liability reprise is like a follow up part of liability where she finally realizes that she’s worth something more than how she was treated when she said “but you’re not what you thought you’re worth” It’s like she’s finally moving on which then sets up the narrative for perfect places of taking the first step to moving on. I think it was really important to have it in the album because it shows that there’s growth and progress in her emotions
Oooo wow Supercut is one of my favorite songs EVER. And I think “in my head I do everything right” kinda gets at that she didn’t mean to mess up or ruin it on purpose. She was trying to do the right thing and is ruminating over that like how did it go wrong
You saying it was her commercial era when it most definitely was not 😅. Her commercial era ended with pure heroine. She went back to New Zealand after pure heroine's success and for making melodrama she was living in jack antanoff's house for a year in 2016-17 (he has a home studio) and was riding subways and doing normal people stuff. Then she came back dropped the album , went on tour and then disappeared again.
I’m just saying the Ammount of songs on Melodrama with radio play potential is WAYYY more than Pure Heroine, the only commercial success in PH was Royals, on Melo she had Green Light and Homemade Dynamite but Sober and Supercut and Perfect Places I could also hear being played on the radio!!
ohh about the k4ny3 thing: He stole/copied her stage design, so Ella called him out (2018). Obviously she was angry. Even they had a collab for a remix in 2014. Now getting on the point (lol) what I’ve read is that he was more an inspiration to her in PH, that was the reason of the collab. However, she has been Taylor’s friend since the 1989 era. They are still friends, in a recent interview Ella revealed that they talk about writing bridges
i love that theyre still friends. i wasnt sure because i heard somewhere they stopped getting along after there were rumors about ella and jack and that she was part of the reason jack and lena split. taylor and lena were also friends so someone said there was tension but im gld that theory got debunked
Also idk who writes about car crashes with the phrasing “we’ll end up painted on the road red and chrome all the broken glass sparkling” but I’m about to drive my car off a bridge to imitate the vibe now..
MELODRAMA is that B TCH! Perfect Places is my favorite jam by this. You better grab a beer or Gin/Mojito to listen to Solar Power, cause it'll give u beach vibes.
Liability reprise fits perfectly with the album. Because in Supercut, she's remembering everything that happened in the relationship. She notices that she wasn't perfect, but neither was he. So in Liability Reprise, she's saying "you or you're", he's the liability. The last thing she says is Leave. She's over him, she's done.
To me, Liability (Reprise) is the track where she actually confronts her constant denial about the breakup although it takes a while to love, it is essential to have on album. I kinda wish she went about it a different way to be fair, like she did with Sober II, but the minimalistic production of Liability in my opinion goes hand in hand with Perfect Places and helps it conclude Melodrama fantastically
Melodrama is amazing and Lorde is one of the best artist of these last years , but she didn't add Precious metals to the album and I'm mad since I found out about that song
you should listen to yellow flicker beat and magnets as well. yellow flicker beat i think is a hunger games song she wrote and it gives very much glory and gore but grown up and magnets feels like a melodrama type song and is veryyy good reminds me of homemade dynamite just the dancy vibe

@@ChaseDotters true, she needs to be happy and reflect to her life too. Its pure. Melodrama and Solar power is different you don’t need to compare them.
But why is there the need to compare SP to Melodrama? It is like when people compared Melodrama to PH, and not liking the second album because it sounds different than the first one. I bet if Lorde’s third album had sounded like Melodrama, people would be complaining it is not original, that it is a copy of her previous album, that they expected from her to innovate, etc. If a fan had certain expectations that were not met with her 3rd album, that is on them, not on Lorde. And that doesn’t mean SP is a bad album, it means you didn’t feel connected to it, which is fine. Maybe later in life, you will get to appreciate it better, because as Lorde says: SP is a new state of mind, are you coming my baby?
