I wish I just took 5 minutes to calibrate this when I first got it, rather than getting annoyed with it for 6 months! Thanks for this really clear video!
🤣🤣🤣 I do things like that too.... one of them jobs, that normally will only take a short amount of time, but you keep putting it off. Then after you have done it, you think why didn't I just do that 12 months ago. You do need to check it ever so often though.
Pt3 Now i flapping at this point and flew stright to your channel and found this. You made this so simple for me. All set up. Fancy calling round to Allerton and cut my wood. Brilliant stuff.
Oh yes sure 🤣🤣... I keep meaning to do a cutting video ... just it takes hours doing the videos! You will soon get the hang of it. I built a whole new decking area using this saw ...made the job a lot quicker.
Glad the video helped. I would check it on a regular basis. Last time I checked mine, the blade had gone out slightly. Luckily I checked it before cutting a load of decking. The price of wood now, you can't afford to make a mistake 😬😬
The laser on mine was way out! ...but thanks to this video everything is now spot on! ...a really great easy to follow & well explained video...thank you!
Thanks, this was much needed. The manual and official evolution online guides or videos were useless. Your video was very clear and perfectly allowed me to set up the machine. To be honest I’m surprised how off it was on almost every aspect (with the exception of the fence). One thing that surprised me about most of the videos online is any guidance regarding setting up the blade, there’s 2 locking washers. The first washer that is between the blade and the machine is designed to fit blades with different sized centres, though none of the online guides explain this, and the diagram that comes with the machine doesn’t add up to what is on the SMS+, so you need to have previous knowledge of mitre saws to be aware of the reason/importance of having this the correct way around. Many thanks for the video.
I know exactly what you mean, when it comes to instructions! Same with anything now though, don't really get instructions with anything anymore. You have to work it out for yourself....somehow! Glad the video helped you. Enjoy your saw.
Thanks so much ... keep meaning to do more videos. It's thinking of something to video and it's so time consuming making a video and very strange talking to a camera 🤣🤣
Hi there. I bought one of these saws second hand a few months ago. I was aware that it wasn't cutting accurately but that didn't matter to me at the time, but tonight with a little bit of spare time I decided to check it out. Looking at the machine it looked pretty straightforward then I saw a technical helpline number on the machine so thought I would give them a ring tomorrow. Now however thanks to your excellent tutorial I won't have to bother. Many grateful thanks !
Glad the video has helped you. It's worth adjusting your machine, so it's accurate. Doesn't take long at all. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.
Excellent video . Thank you . I've got the small R185+ . Great bit of kit . It was fortunately all square out the box apart from the laser , so never used it . Now I know how to correct it . Love the cardboard idea 💡
Glad you liked the video and my cardboard idea 😀 I need to replace my decking, so I'm hoping the saw will make the job a lot easier. That's after, I first take out a 2nd mortgage, to actually pay for the wood..... ridiculous prices now!!!
From choosing which mitre saw to buy, to setting it up and now fine tuning it your videos were, on every occasion, the last one I needed to get all the information I needed. Very informative and set out in a very easy to follow way. Cracking 👍
That was just what I needed to know. Thank you for a clear and precise demonstration of how to adjust the saw. I have looked but not noticed where the adjacent screws were. Now I know. Thanks again.
You can replace the part. It's £10.99 + £5.00 carriage, next day delivery. The part is part 139 on the drop down menu. It's on the website shop.evolutionpowertools.com/products/r210sms-parts-base?_pos=1&_sid=518d7402a&_ss=r&variant=32120474468388. Hope this helps 😊😊
A good, clear guide to setting up the mitre saw. I bought the Evolution R210SMS last week and used this handy guide to calibrate it. I'm now confident that when I start using it for my skirting boards tomorrow, I'll be making accurate cuts (even if I bodge the measuring a few times :-D).
Fantastic video on set up and laser alignment. I have seen on other tutorials that besides the two screws you used to adjust left and right, there is another screw on the left side of the laser. At any point do you need to loosen that single screw before you adjust either of the two you adjusted. Hope the question makes sense. Once again thanks for the great tutorial. I have just purchased the Evolution R255 SMS+.......so hopefully the same process for the laser alignment is the same.....i shall hopefully be setting it up tomorrow.
Oh yes I know exactly what you are talking about. It even says in the handbook to adjust that screw on the left of the laser. But it doesn't actually move. Maybe on the older models it did and they have now changed it, but mine definitely does not move. I finally realised this after about 30 minutes of trying 🙄 Thanks for taking the time to leave comment. Glad you enjoyed the video 😁
Sorry I don't know. It is difficult to see the beam in the light. It sounds like some sort of loose wire maybe. Try contacting evolution. Sorry I can't be of anymore help.
Thanks for leaving a comment. Hopefully you won't need to adjust anything. All mine was correct when I first set it up. I moved things, just so I could show how to adjust it, if needed.
Thanks for uploading this video👍🏻 both my laser and fence are way off out of the box🙄. This is gonna help big time and save me pulling what little hair I have left out. Many thanks 🙏🏻
@@stedux That's a shame they wasn't accurate..... isn't it always the way though 🙄Hopefully the video will help you get it sorted, easily enough....good luck 🍀😁
Hi I've setup my saw to the best of my ability following your tutorial. After the calibration I cut a small piece of wood both sides and when I put in set square it's not square slightest gap any ideas what I can do.
Sounds like your blade is not 90 degree square with the table, if I'm understanding you correctly. Go to my video ' 26 seconds ' from start of video and I'm checking the blade is 90 degree square with table. When you put the set square against table and blade make sure it's not touching the raised bits of the blade at all. There should be no gap at all between the square and blade (1 minute into video) all the way down the square. Shining a light directly on it can help you see the slightest gap. It needs adjusting if it does (1.35 minutes) how to adjust it. If you know this is correct, check the orange pointer is on '0 degree' (47 seconds). If not you may need to loosen the screw slightly and make sure the orange pointer is pointing exactly at '0. I hope this helps you.
@@bloominhometogarden the one I use was new in Dec 2021 (borrowed from a friend) and definitely has a removable plastic cover. I found that it can distort the beam slightly, but I made adjustments and left it on anyway because when cutting slightly resinous CLS timber, the laser lens got a significant buildup of resin & fine sawdust (the line disappeared).
I wish I just took 5 minutes to calibrate this when I first got it, rather than getting annoyed with it for 6 months! Thanks for this really clear video!

Hi, just using your video to do adjustment on my 185sms+ but my laser doesn't turn on. There was no battery. What battery type is in yours?
Mine doesn't have a battery, as far as I know anyway. The laser only works on mine, when the power is on. Sounds like something else is wrong with it.
