    I bought the original Evolution table saw (the green one) several years back. Price was a major factor and it represented excellent value for my use-case. Very happy with it, although wish the fence was a pinion type. The power-cut switch was something that bothered me as being too difficult to locate. I fabricated an enhancement that hangs over the red button and takes the merest of touches to trigger the stop - I don’t have to look to find it. I’m intrigued to see that the new saw you are testing has something that is somewhat similar!

    Another feature you may have missed is that the slots in the bed for the mitre gauge are now a STANDARD SIZE unlike the Rage 5. This means that upmarket mitre gauges will fit the R255. The Rage 5 was non standard and you had to make your own sled runners or like I did buy 3D printed ones.

    • @JamesDeanDesigns

      I had missed that! Thank you!

      @JamesDeanDesigns Good review James. Yeah, the obscure size on the Rage was a big problem if you wanted to use a fancy mitre gauge or other factory made devices.. I bought one with the intention of modifying it to fit the Rage, but before I did it the R255 came along saving me the task.
      This revision along with the fence (a major gripe with budget saws for many years !) longer arbour, strong throat plate and vastly improved dust extraction prove that Evolution did their homework and took careful notice of Rage 5 customer and youtube reviews..Also offering a no stand option was a clever way of being able to offer a lower price for those who wanted a static workshop saw. Again Evolution must have noticed that many users on UA-cam built their table saw chassis into home made work benches etc , making the stand redundant and an unnecessary expense.

    I'm very impressed with the features of this saw. I'm debating getting back into woodworking so I'll have to see if this model is available over here in the US. I particularly like the sliding table feature.
    Rack and pinion is the only way to go with a fence system.

    I was lucky enough to trial this saw and got to keep it back in January. It is an awesome bit of kit, leaps and bounds ahead of the rage5. Any company that listens to its customers feedback is on to a winner!

    Just came across your channel James on the wide dust extraction

    to one side m/c kicks it out
    hits bottle no mess straight into bucket nice and cheap

    I have been using Evolution Cold Cut blades for cutting steel plate. They know what they are doing. There is a lot of competition out there in this portable and foldable market. I am currently using a 15 year old Ryobi unit that is still going strong. But I always keep my eyes open.
    I am a Bosch fanboy but I think the Dewalt is a better saw than the Bosch. The Evolution here in the US is about $375 but not the same unit shown here. It will take a lot of homework and research to find steel components and quality construction if I ever have to replace the Ryobi.
    The most important feature of any tool is the mindfulness you put into your work. I did the bulk of my precision cabinetry and boat building projects with cheap tools. The best tools with no mindfulness will not make you a good carpenter.

    You presented a very professional demonstration of this saw. I had a look at your link, the TBL+ currently has a 3 to 7 month waiting list for delivery, the rest you can have in days……………😳 It’s almost as cheap as the basic model, and cheaper than the model without the stand, no wonder it’s out of stock.

    My Evolution mitre saw did not last that long before the blade bearings wore out and it wobbled. I upgraded it as I already had the stand. So far so good. If you can afford a proper table saw rather than a site saw then go for it. Evolution do seem to be a good make.

    • @gildardomoreno6841
      @gildardomoreno6841 Місяць тому +1

      a jobsite table saw is not what you need for ripping down sheets of plywood, you need a "Sliding table saw" ( expensive take up massive space), or a track saw.

    • @MakerHacks
      @MakerHacks Місяць тому

      @@kevinwillis6707 it wouldn’t JUST be for sheet goods. Back home in Canada I had a small and cheap Canadian tire table saw that I’d rip sheets, do long mitres, even cut plumbing pipe.
      I’ve not found a track for my circular saw here, and I’d loathe to have to get a new one just for a compatible track and it wouldn’t help with the long mitres and making finger joints 🤔

    • @kevinwillis6707
      @kevinwillis6707 Місяць тому

      @@MakerHacks I find the cuts from job site saws to be too rough for fine work, even with a decent blade fitted, I'd look for a good second hand cast iron table saw, if space is an issue you could remove a side extension, the older cast iron saws are much quieter, and the tables are much flatter than job site saws. I have a track saw but am going to upgrade my older cast iron table saw to the new hammer k2m saw, it's pricey , but I'm fed up compromising on tools. I can't believe how much the likes of DeWalt job site saws have gone up in price the last few years, it narrows the price gap between them and a good cabinet saw.

    Very interesting and I’m glad I’ve caught this video. I was looking between Makita (my preferred company) or Dewalt, but it’s superb to see another more affordable option, which doesn’t cut down on quality and features. I have to keep tools in my house (as I have no garage or shed), therefore portability is key, so may I ask how portable this is, please? Also, what (if any) are the negatives of this saw? It looks a touch plasticky. Cheers.

    Always had a dewalt contractor's saw but changed to this saw, once set up it's in my opinion a better saw than the dewalt. Adjusting the blade to the slot in the table is a breeze,then set the guide to the slot job done. The only 2 issues I have is the supplied table insert is of poor quality and the perspex scale indicator doesn't cover or indeed reach the scale. Come on evolution please sort this. 😊
