  • Taking the $100 BOAT Out for the First Time! Running the River with the Mud Motor! This Thing Rips! How, Will it run?
    I took the 10 foot Jon Boat Alumacraft down to the river to run the river and see how this boat does up and downstream. This little boat surprised me by running shallow and seeing just how fast this mud motor will take this boat. The Mud motor has been upgraded from the 212 6.5 horsepower to around 9 horsepower, and has the beef to push this boat all around. This is almost a mud motor review on a jon boat. This boat is going to be a really good budget jon boat to bass boat conversion.

    Derrick that’s real fast, that mud motor is the way to go you flew through the river. A lot cheaper than a new 5 HP outboard. Great video!

    • @TBassFactory
      @TBassFactory  2 роки тому +1

      That’s why I love that motor Phil. That boat was flying upriver. I think they make a kit where you can convert that 6.5 to 22 horsepower for around $750

      When I was a kid, high school I had a Jon boat with a old 20 hp on it and my buddy had a pumpkin seed boat with a 20 on it, we put both motors on the Jon boat an made his brother sit in the front. His brother was scared. The boat flew was fun for a few hours. Then the transom cracked in the middle of the lake we almost didn’t make it back to the dock. Good ole days!

    I love the Flintstones ingenuity at the beginning, worked pretty good and gave me a chuckle. I'm really impressed with how quick that kitted mud motor will move that little Jon and how fast it will move. Be sure to let us know the titling process goes. That is the major hurtle for a lot of us would-be Jon boat builders. Because here in my neck of the woods the delta between two identical boats, one with title and one without, is about $1000.

    • @TBassFactory
      @TBassFactory  2 роки тому +1

      Yep, I hope I can get it figured out with the title. I don’t wanna make this boat a private water only boat or else I could get a fine from a warden. The last option for this boat is if I buy another 10 foot jon and combine them and make the worlds longest jon boat, ha thanks Tim

    Does the AlumiWeld rods work? All you need is a propane torch.
    An old trick we used back in the day was to remove the drain plug while going to let the water drain out. Just need to remember to put it back in right before you stop.

    Thanks for the vid. I have the same Alumacraft, boat only in 12 feet instead of 10. It is a model 1232 - roughly 12 feet long overall by 32 inches wide at the bottom. Mine is close to the same year too, as it has the exact same version of the Alumacraft decal. It's a great creek boat, but a bit tippy, and I would hate to know I had to stand up in it at speed to steer the motor. Currently it has a new Suzuki 6 HP outboard, which planes it out just fine with 200-300 pounds of people in the boat, but not so much with 400. I am also researching which 196-212cc mud motors would best allow for sitting while running at speed. If I must stand, I would feel a need to fabricate some sort of sturdy rail to hang onto.
    I realize I'm late with a response, but since you asked - I have seen aluminum boat repair sticks, and used to have a few back in the 90's. They were green, about 3/8 thick by 12 inches long, and were made of some sort of semi-flexible plastic or rubber. The friend who gave them to me said you just pound the damaged area back to shape as best as you could, heat the area with a torch, and then melt these into any remaining leaks for a quick and easy, yet permanent repair. They were supposed to work really well on leaky rivets too. I was really proud to have them at the time, but never actually had to use one and have since lost them in a move, but I'm sure you could google around and find something similar. It still seems like a great, viable option to me.
    I know there are also coatings that can be applied to the bottom of jon boats that will seal up small leaks, as well as provide various other benefits, like noise reduction and less friction on any solid objects you might encounter and need to slide over.
    Anyway, Thanks again. 👍
