I think this is the only diy bender that has a wiper die. Usually only see those on the big commercial rigs. Too bad you can't get enough pressure on the pulling clamp so you don't need the nut though your nut fix is impressive itself. Excellent work.
Love the work. I've casted Aluminum, but have never played with bronze, if you were not using scrap but 99% pure metal powder and melting in a vacuum would you go with an aluminum bronze or a 4-5 % tin bronze used in springs and turbine blades? I think it's called alpha bronze where solid tin meets with liquid copper but there is some black magic involved with the mixing that I never grasped.
brilliant using the balls to keep the outside crushing away grease may help them last longer also making them out of aluminum bronzes will make them last even longer.
main die is steel and made By using radius cutting tool in lathe. long follower die is steel and machined in lathe using linebore bar in chuck and part was in tool post. wiper die is bronze casted in to die and hand fitted. mandrel is bronze. made By using ball turning tool in lathe.
Your videos are always so engaging :), The subject for your clips are on point :), This video of yours had me glued to the screen:), What camera do you use to shoot your episodes?, What microphone do use?
very impressive for a home made setup, would you be willing to share your desing? i i fabricate exhaust systems and need a madrel bender, but a professional one is arround 40 k euros :S
i was pulling too much pressure to the slider die in this clip. less slider die pressure eliminates the fricktion sound sound comes from brass mandrell inside the tube
I have an urgent need of pipe bending machine. Please share the technicalities of building this type of machine and how this machine is different from commercial pipe benders.
Guy. I hope you realize how fucking awesome that is that it works as great as it does. Fantastic work. What dies did you get for it ? Or did you make them?
thank for quick reply ! my problem now is the tube is stuck between wiper and pressure die, causing break or slippage on clamp die i am going to re-cut my pressure die, about 50.1-50.2 mm(my tube OD is 50mm) 50mm OD,wall thickness 1mm,CLR 2D Can you give me some advices, thank you
do you have too much pressure in pressure die and not enough wiper rake angle. mandrell too deep?this might help you www.hornmachinetools.com/home/PDF/HMT-Mandrel-Bending-101.pdf
I would like to know what is the radius/diameter of your bending tool. Is there an equation like R_tool = x*OD_tube ? where x is a number or something. Or is there a table. And what is the difference for steel and aluminum? Thank you.
i made mandrel by machining balls in lathe brass/bronze mixture with radius turner. they are connected together with steel cable in the center of the balls. wiper die is casted to shape using die as mold and then machined/hand fitted to die
i used mandrel info from here www.google.fi/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=11&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiizJOxj9fYAhUF6CwKHc4FAZ4QFghdMAo&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hornmachinetools.com%2Fhome%2FPDF%2FHMT-Mandrel-Bending-101.pdf&usg=AOvVaw10-Y6WR_sDJw7o2ioNwISz
most off the metal and parts are scavenged from leftover stuff i had laying around. bought couple bearings an some hydraulic stuff. under 500$ to parts and fabrication consumables+lots of my time

That is incredibly impressive.
best build ever! THANKS FOR THE POST
Wow, this is super impressive!
Nice piece of gear, thanks for sharing that with the wurld...Aloha, Farmerman.
great quality!

nice job !!! Blue prints please, whats the smallest radius u can bend with a 1/6 wall stainless steel pipe ???
very nice bend no wrinkles or any deformation, but very time consuming.
impressive
Holy cow. That's a good use for a wood splitter.
THAT's what it is! It's always hot where I am so I have never actually seen one but it looked strangely familiar :P
ดีมากครับกำลังทำพอดีเลย
pretty dam nice!
essa maquima e a minha inspiracao para montar a minha maquina...mas um pouco diferente
brilliant using the balls to keep the outside crushing away grease may help them last longer also making them out of aluminum bronzes will make them last even longer.
Great!
Nice work! That's homebrew? Great rig, looks bought.
Super mechanism
Awesome for exhaust
Excellent job...
I would like some home blue prints as well...
How did you form the die? Material of die?
Keep up the good work.
Dave
main die is steel and made By using radius cutting tool in lathe.
long follower die is steel and machined in lathe using linebore bar in chuck and part was in tool post.
wiper die is bronze casted in to die and hand fitted.
mandrel is bronze. made By using ball turning tool in lathe.

This video of yours had me glued to the screen:),
What camera do you use to shoot your episodes?,
What microphone do use?
i have sony pj530 and old gopro hero or just my phone for taking random videosno external mics
very impressive for a home made setup, would you be willing to share your desing? i i fabricate exhaust systems and need a madrel bender, but a professional one is arround 40 k euros :S
Amazing
Put some grease at the square tube that holds the round tube. That way it slides without making that noise. Great DIY
i was pulling too much pressure to the slider die in this clip. less slider die pressure eliminates the fricktion sound sound comes from brass mandrell inside the tube
does grease somehow mess up that follower?
Bend looks perfect! Well done! Did you make the mandrel from scratch? How did you do the front (flexible part)?
made mandrel from scratch. used radius turners to make balls and has cable running inside them for flex.there is build up link in description box
I have an urgent need of pipe bending machine. Please share the technicalities of building this type of machine and how this machine is different from commercial pipe benders.
very good job sir i slaute you.how much power required sir.
mohd naheed i
sir i wand to bend 38mm x 1mm ss tube with 50mm radius can you guild me
nice
badass
Guy. I hope you realize how fucking awesome that is that it works as great as it does. Fantastic work. What dies did you get for it ? Or did you make them?
Does that pressure die move forward simply by friction against the main bending die?
tube is pulling pressure die.
it was tightened too much in this video. when its in right tension sound goes away and it runs smooth
Is there compulsory to aluminum bronze for wiper and Mandrel to bend SS 316L or its matter of tooling life?
dont know. i just melted some old bronze junk and made my wiper and mandrel from it.
What is the mandrel insert made out of?
bronze/brass mixture recasted from scrap parts
good job , but like watching paint dry .
جميل
hello,if tube OD is 48.3mm
how much diameter of pressure die and wiper die ,48.3 or bigger.thank you
same size as tube 48.3. wiper die has some rake angle .
thank for quick reply !
my problem now is the tube is stuck between wiper and pressure die, causing break or slippage on clamp die
i am going to re-cut my pressure die,about 50.1-50.2 mm(my tube OD is 50mm)
50mm OD,wall thickness 1mm,CLR 2D
Can you give me some advices, thank you
do you have too much pressure in pressure die and not enough wiper rake angle. mandrell too deep?this might help you www.hornmachinetools.com/home/PDF/HMT-Mandrel-Bending-101.pdf
with your spec : 48.3mm OD,1.6mm thickness
how much pressure you set ?
i use a tool from bendtooling,i put mandrel nose 7-8mm forward
1200 psi
I would like to know what is the radius/diameter of your bending tool. Is there an equation like R_tool = x*OD_tube ? where x is a number or something. Or is there a table. And what is the difference for steel and aluminum? Thank you.
very nice but could you tell me where you got internal mandrel from or how you made itregards john from Australia
i made mandrel by machining balls in lathe brass/bronze mixture with radius turner. they are connected together with steel cable in the center of the balls. wiper die is casted to shape using die as mold and then machined/hand fitted to die
thank you regards john
sell it! really good features
So mandrel bending is essentially stretching the outside curve of the pipe?
Awesome work. How do you figure your mandrel dimensions?
i used mandrel info from here www.google.fi/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=11&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiizJOxj9fYAhUF6CwKHc4FAZ4QFghdMAo&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hornmachinetools.com%2Fhome%2FPDF%2FHMT-Mandrel-Bending-101.pdf&usg=AOvVaw10-Y6WR_sDJw7o2ioNwISz
What's home made about that
Very nice what did it cost you to put that together?
most off the metal and parts are scavenged from leftover stuff i had laying around.
bought couple bearings an some hydraulic stuff.
under 500$ to parts and fabrication consumables+lots of my time
Man that stuff last looks like a fucking battle. Seems like greasing the back of the block would help.
had the follower die tightened too much.
почему на сухую?
yeh in the home of a toolmaker ...
What is CLR in above Video?
~120mm
You made all of that at home? What kind of home do you have? That's homemade? Ok if you say so lol. Looks like pro built...
Or you could just use a cheap HF tube bender and some cerrobend so it never ever kinks anything. Simple, fast, easy, cheap and efficient. KISS!
