    I think this is the only diy bender that has a wiper die. Usually only see those on the big commercial rigs. Too bad you can't get enough pressure on the pulling clamp so you don't need the nut though your nut fix is impressive itself. Excellent work.

    Love the work. I've casted Aluminum, but have never played with bronze, if you were not using scrap but 99% pure metal powder and melting in a vacuum would you go with an aluminum bronze or a 4-5 % tin bronze used in springs and turbine blades? I think it's called alpha bronze where solid tin meets with liquid copper but there is some black magic involved with the mixing that I never grasped.

    brilliant using the balls to keep the outside crushing away grease may help them last longer also making them out of aluminum bronzes will make them last even longer.

    Keep up the good work.

      main die is steel and made By using radius cutting tool in lathe.
      long follower die is steel and machined in lathe using linebore bar in chuck and part was in tool post.
      wiper die is bronze casted in to die and hand fitted.
      mandrel is bronze. made By using ball turning tool in lathe.

    Put some grease at the square tube that holds the round tube. That way it slides without making that noise. Great DIY

    • @TJussilainen
      @TJussilainen  10 років тому

      i was pulling too much pressure to the slider die in this clip. less slider die pressure eliminates the fricktion sound sound comes from brass mandrell inside the tube

    Does that pressure die move forward simply by friction against the main bending die?

    • @TJussilainen
      @TJussilainen  3 місяці тому

      tube is pulling pressure die.
      it was tightened too much in this video. when its in right tension sound goes away and it runs smooth

    hello,if tube OD is 48.3mm
    how much diameter of pressure die and wiper die ,48.3 or bigger.thank you

    • @TJussilainen

      same size as tube 48.3. wiper die has some rake angle .

      thank for quick reply !
      my problem now is the tube is stuck between wiper and pressure die,causing break or slippage on clamp die
      i am going to re-cut my pressure die,about 50.1-50.2 mm(my tube OD is 50mm)
      50mm OD,wall thickness 1mm,CLR 2D
      Can you give me some advices,thank you

    • @TJussilainen
      @TJussilainen  7 років тому +1

      do you have too much pressure in pressure die and not enough wiper rake angle. mandrell too deep?this might help you www.hornmachinetools.com/home/PDF/HMT-Mandrel-Bending-101.pdf

      with your spec : 48.3mm OD,1.6mm thickness
      how much pressure you set ?
      i use a tool from bendtooling,i put mandrel nose 7-8mm forward
      1200 psi

      I would like to know what is the radius/diameter of your bending tool. Is there an equation like R_tool = x*OD_tube ? where x is a number or something. Or is there a table. And what is the difference for steel and aluminum? Thank you.

    very nice but could you tell me where you got internal mandrel from or how you made itregards john from Australia

    • @TJussilainen
      @TJussilainen  6 років тому +2

      i made mandrel by machining balls in lathe brass/bronze mixture with radius turner. they are connected together with steel cable in the center of the balls. wiper die is casted to shape using die as mold and then machined/hand fitted to die

      most off the metal and parts are scavenged from leftover stuff i had laying around.
      bought couple bearings an some hydraulic stuff.
      under 500$ to parts and fabrication consumables+lots of my time
