Guys...fans are "daddy". Many tried to tell her to stop dating Matty Healy
She’s actually talking about the over critical press and so called overbearing “fans” that think they know her better than herself. Most importantly who she chooses to date. It’s not necessarily her father. But you hear the final chorus that her parents are ok with it.
"Daddy" is, thankfully, not her dad, but unfortunately the fans who made a freaking PETITION to DEMAND she end one of her relationships. Calling them "Daddy" is a dig at them for acting like they're her parents and as if they have any say whatsoever in her personal life.
Sanctimonious means acting as if or having the belief that you're morally superior to others/everyone. Kind of like when we say people are on their high horse or that someone has a superiority complex.
A soliloquy is when someone speaks their thoughts outloud despite who may hear them, often unfiltered, and sometimes despite the impact they may have or hurt they may cause.
An empath is someone who cares deeply for the well-being of others and is capable of putting themselves in the shoes of someone experiencing something they haven't. Viper dressed in empath's clothing refers to people who pretend to care but are using empathy as a mask to justify being hateful and judgemental.
My husband often needs me to help him understand bigger words. He's the history wiz that can memorize dates & numbers for years that I'll forget in a week, I'm the bookworm who won creative writing contests. 😂 Hope I was able to help. 🖤
Since Taylor never really says anything on the exacts of her music stories. It’s all guesswork but it can be fun.
You know, the people who watch your reaction videos won't mind if you pause the music to look up meaning of words you don't know on Google. If you don't know them, others may not know them either. Empath = someone who can sense someone else's feelings as if they're their own feelings basically.
"Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I'll never see." = making a speech as if they know what's best for other people, but without expecting her to even see them. She was basically calling out the judgemental creeps among her fan base who lost their everloving minds when she was dating Matty Healy because they thought he wasn't good enough for her/was problematic/was the opposite of everything she stands for, etc. So many "fans" made long posts online about how she "needed" to leave him because he would drag her down and basically acted like they knew what she wanted and needed better than she did. It was a pretty rough time to be a swiftie. A lot of us were divided into 3 camps: those who hated Matty, those who loved him and the 1975, and those who just wanted her to be happy even if we didn't understand. I was in that third group

“Fans” wrote an inappropriate letter last year telling Taylor to break up with who she was with and people always have opinions on her dating life,so this song is her reaction to that.
Tbh, when she started dating matty, i was like, ok girl's getting out there dating, but when i saw someone wrote a letter and telling her to dump him or they are gonna "cancel " her again....I mean, some fans takes it waaaaay too far

Guys, look up the language. Language is power and life. The more you know, the better off you are. Look up the words.
An empath is a person who feels deeply and can imagine the pain others are going through. Sanctimonious is a word that means- sort of pious, holier than thou. Snobby perhaps. Pretentious a bit. Soliloquies are a person's thoughts said aloud, dramatic. Usually used in plays or dramas, Shakespeare plays have these.

Well I guess to be fair empathy is a way more common word than the weird idea of calling some people empaths. That's fairly rare. I still knew the word. I'm shocked how many people didn't know trysts in Guilty as Sin as a term. I thought it was a fairly common term.

When it comes to Taylor, never assume what the song is about based on the title. ;). Also don't take every word literally. "Daddy" is not her dad's, it's some of her psycho fans who tried to dictate her personal life.
This is about a person long before. She was only a teenager. Her mom talked about it in an interview. Not MH. Long before.
This song is definitely about different relationships. In the beginning I think she’s talking about John Mayer and at the end Travis. It’s about how she’s always been criticized for who she’s dated.
