I respect your criticism of Ushorans silhouette. For me the hunched pose conjures up Richard III or King Lear. A Shakespearean tragic madness, the model exudes a kingly dignity however twisted and debased. Stood upright that character is lost and he simply looks a bestial monster.

I 100% agree with Vince about the big cape kinda smothering the model but otherwise think the original is pretty cool, especially the way he is holding a skullcrushing mace like it's a prestigious royal scepter. It's a real shame imo to lose that downright iconic aspect.

I like how he now remind me of a feral Gorilla attacking, fully stretched. The left thumb actually help sell the effect.
I agree on the mace grip, it seems loose in his hand.
Otherwise this was a tremendous and brave conversion.
Thanks for all the inspiration Vince!

... but he IS a bestial monster though.

@@HellecticMojo Yes and no. The artwork Vince showed is a great picture, but "bestial monster" only scratches the surface. The FEC have gaslit themselves into thinking they are paragons of nobility and virtue, while the reality is the maniacal cannibalism. I love that the model makes the attempt to go the way of showing the delusional kingly look instead of just a rage fueled monster.
Vince did a great job on his version, but I don't think it encapsulates the essence of the character as well as the original.

Personally I think the original sculpt is brilliant and captures the feel of the character so we disagree there. I'm really grateful though to see how big he'd be if he actually stood up! It's always so informative to hear you talk through and model the different steps; I always learn a lot from your videos!

I respect the amount of work that went into this... but personally I liked hunched Ushoran more. It contrasts to his delusion of being a righteous king better as well.

I love the effort, love the conversion, love the video, but for me the original sculpt is just very original and his hunched pose speaks to the way his madness has twisted his form as well as his mind. Incredible effort and conversion work and the paint job is amazing!

Hi Vince, thanks for sharing! My biggest take away from this is not the finished result but a reminder to try and make these models your own. I don't have an extensive bits collection or sculpting skill set so I often ignore this aspect of the hobby by default. Your work is a reminder it really does result in unique miniatures and that's something to be proud of. Cheers

I love your, "Don't be afraid to create" attitude. Since I started painting last year, and with many many Many projects of all sorts, I often find myself in the paralysis by analysis loop. Perfection is my goal and the very fear of not attaining that perfection keeps me from completing (or sometimes starting) anything. I've tried to keep in mind your mindset and John's (Ninjon), "Futz around and figure it out" to start pushing me over the hill that so often seems insurmountable. Now, I have creations on a shelf. Not perfect creations by a longshot but still creations I'm proud to have produced, and hopefully, progress along my hobby journey.

You have a way of presenting things that is equal parts 'no nonsense' and 'down to earth' that makes it feel valuable for people all across the spectrum of experience in this hobby. You are not only insanely talented when comes to hobbying, but also when it comes to teaching all the rest of us. Thanks for all the lessons Mr. V.
As for my thoughts on this video, it's a cool conversion and a wicked paint job. I'm coming away from it feeling much more confident that I can make proxies for things in my upcoming Drukhari army that may be out of print. Thanks again!

Thé ultimate step of the hobby : making your very own minis !
    Congratz !
I am sure I am not thé first one to tell you this but :
Half GreenStuff half Miliput is the recipe to go , in my opinion.
Easier on every steps : sculpting, sanding ... And it dries hard and straight .
And it is cheaper than 100% GreenStuff
    Great vidéo as always

Ruined in my opinion, but I view the og modell to be one of the best ever made. High chance to become my favorite modell this year, depending on what is still coming. But I have to say if someone showed me the conversion and asked me who did it, I would say Vince no doubt. You could put him into your Slaanesh army and no one would say he is out of place there, which is my problem with it I guess.

Hi Vince, really appreciate your perspective on challenges. I'm pushing to use an airbush and oils and it's a case of progress not perfection. In the face of videos where the outputs are flawless, your take of "it's cool and it's mine" is refreshing. I felt the same way during your retrospective where you looked at how your paint style has evolved overtime. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos; your small throw away comments end up resonating and motivating a lot of people.

It's scary, nerve wracking, sometimes doesn't pan out, but always ends with something uniquely yours. While I personally love the OG hunch king, yours is a killer take. It totally gives me Conan vibes, which is pretty frickin awesome if you ask me.

Fantastic job Vince -the original is way tooo cartoonish: Belle’s Beast and the Hunchback of Notre-dame have a baby, basically. Good idea, but they should have dialled it back a bit -he looks hilarious. I’m half expecting Lumiere to pop up, or a teapot to start singing. Yours fits the look of the army much better.

When approaching major conversions like this, my mantra is always "there's nothing I can do to this model that I can't fix somehow'. I've been cutting up big expensive models for years, and it's always a little intimidating, but at the end of the day, if i'm having fun bringing a creative vision into reality, it's all good.

I found myself rewatching this video a few times. It's really intimidating to cut up such a big expensive model like that, but you put so much work into it and adjusted and changed things several times to get something you're at least happy with (even tho you mention there are more things you would do). That's pretty inspiring. I find myself procrastinating about big conversions myself for fear of "ruining" models. But so long as I am happy with the final product I achieved, it doesn't matter what others think!
I saw the other comment about how he now looks like a Slaneeshi daemon and you saying that's "kind of your cup of tea" and I can totally see it in this model. Maybe it can get double duty!

I think his OG model captures his current character perfectly. He’s no longer a noble handsome or masterful lord. He’s been tainted, spoiled, and defiled by his own madness. He’s no Carstine. He’s a mad king of delusion who’s a glutton for blood. Sure maybe in his own head he may stand like a lord of that sort, but after his imprisonment he truly has become a beastly man. Like that of Hide and dr jeckel. A true fall from grace. A suffering tale of one so noble now nothing more than a savage with small instances of sanity. He’s broken. Shattered. Thrown away. Yet he crawls back to his throne all the same. Now being the embodiment of what his court represents. Blissfully debauchery.

The glimpse into the mind of the creator, creating something they find interesting and how they go about it. It really fascinates me, as everyone has their own ideas for creating things.
I have so much magic sculpt I could have sent you to mix with your greenstuff. You may not do a lot of sculpting, but it is a game changer. No matter how small a piece, I’m always cutting my GS with some form of epoxy putty.

My introduction to Usheron is this kit rather than any concept art or legacy
I think his fur and cloak paint up beautifully (see Marco NJM) but I totally respect your own perspective and this is a superb vid for making models your own vision and you did it beautifully
The model is way too ridiculously expensive for what you get and so I'll just wait for an STL creative genius before I try to follow Marco's paint process.

I'm not a great sculptor but I am an illustrator, and I think part of the reason he might look a little "off" is because he lacks a really coherent line of action- the mace swing doesn't feel like it has much effort or weight to it- he looks almost like hes more flailing around. In this case I think that kinda weirdly works with his delusional character, almost like hes daydreaming while ambling towards the enemy, but might be something to keep in mind!

I didn't realize how gaunt he was from the hunched pictures I had seen. This was a bit eye opening!

    Great work!
I don't know the character as well, so I'm more accepting of the GW version, but I do get what you're feeling. If they released a new plastic version of Settra hunched in similar pose, I would feel exactly the same.

I love the model, personally, but this was interesting.
I’ve done minor sculpting, but never anything like this. This was extremely interesting. Great job!

I‘d love to know how you painted his skin. Currently trying to replicate all the different tones, quite challenging! He looks amazing.

@@VinceVenturella think my mistake was leaving the ivory, I went for a cold blue-white. Will try with the ivory!

What an absolute madman. I'm afraid to mess up models that I printed myself. Thanks for sharing your process and the bravery!

    Loved the video!
It was nice seeing you go at it from a more sculpting and modelling point of view; I learned a lot!
And speaking of modelling: would you perhaps do a video on magnetizing a model sometime in the future? Struggling hard with my Dæmon Prince over here 😅

I like how he now remind me of a feral Gorilla attacking, fully stretched. The left thumb actually help sell the effect.
I agree on the mace grip, it seems loose in his hand.
Otherwise this was a tremendous and brave conversion.
Thanks for all the inspiration Vince!

It is really nice to see these videos and it is quite a different approach. Scary indeed for what the cost of the model represents, but fun indeed!

Just about to try some much smaller green stuff to change a model a little bit, don’t think my end result will be quite as epic as this, very nice work. :) If I got stuck with trying to change this model I bet it would have ended with Scotty beaming it aboard some Klingon ship.

Hats off for the kitbash. That's a very brave move there. Would be nice if, in the future, they make some kind of kits with built-in 'rigging' to change poses.
