  • This is everything you need to know from dirty range brass to de-priming, cleaning, sizing, flaring, re-priming, charging case with powder, seating bullet and crimping. In Part 1 we look at the gear and cost. In Part 2 we go into detail of how to reload from start to finish using a lee hand press. This is called "single stage" or "batch" reloading... The progress machines are doing several processes at one time. In single stage you do one process at a time on all your rounds in batches. Part 3 finishes with some technical details of reloading and general comments.

Just a note on the bullet seater. you wouldn't need to adjust the main seating nut, you would simply tweak the small knurled adjuster at the top of the die. Very good vid :)

I am absolutely amazed by your patience. Have you calculated your reload rate? how long does it take to reload 50 rounds? I do like the idea of using a cheap sonic bath! That's super smart

First is is a hobby and I have the ability to make 1000's and 1000's and 1000's of rounds at will. It takes about 1 minute a round. After Sandy Hook tragedy (God rest their souls and peace be with their family) you could NOT buy ammo. When the gun grabbers come they already figured out how to get the AMMO first. Having the skill, tools and supplies to make your own ammo is independence.
Also I don't do all steps at one time. So I have a few hundred dirty cases. I de-prime them one day while watching TV. Then I clean them at another time... which takes little attention. So now I have 500 clean cases that cost basically nothing.
Once I am ready to prime (2 cents a round), add powder (3 cents) and seat the bullets (5 cents), it is about 1 minute per round, or about an hour to do 50. So on sale 9 mm is about 0.25-0.35 cents. or about $15 to $20 with tax. So do I make money? Well it cost about $10 cents a round. It is NOT a money saving thing, although I save about $15-25 cents a round. it is about availability. I have 1000's of rounds and 1000's more I can produce, bullets, pounds of powdered and 1000's of clean cases. If there is a shortage, I can always make them my own ammo..

I had not even thought of it that way. I really only shoot 9mm and in AZ, I can get 500 rounds with brass casings for just under $.20 per round. I forget about many other states where ammo is more expensive and can be subject to shortages.
Any reason why you don't use a progressive reloader?

I think I bought most of my stuff on eBay. For powder, primers, bullets there are many online sources. I went with a LEE hand loader because I can fit it all in a big plastic tub and put it in the closet and pull it out as I need it. My other supplies (bullets, cases, powder, primers) are in another plastic tube. I recommend a single stage loader, but one that you can plant onto a bench (semi) permanently which is a little easier to use. If you have room, set an area with table and shelves just for reloading. Store your powder and primers in a temp controlled area. Remember no drinking beer while loading and wear safety glasses....🤣 have fun👍
