    As I got back to this video again in this year 2020 I wanted to say this is still one of the best and easiest to follow videos for Campy RD adjustment. Please never take it down!

    Just wanted to note for other users that on my campy chorus 2014 rear derailleur, rotating the b-tension screw clockwise actually makes it move closer to the cog.

    I was only looking for adjusting that b-screw. Watching this video made me do the complete adjustment of my Campa RD. Most complete and clear explanation of what I thought was a complex part of my bike. I know better now. Thanks.

    I just fitted a new 12 speed Chorus groupset and the official Campy video was driving me insane. Way too fast, blurred close ups, mechanics hands in the way.. (I could go on). Very glad to find this good, clear, well-paced explanation! Derailleurs nicely indexed and blood pressure back to normal. Thanks a lot!

    Thank you Art's Cyclery that's the easiest to follow vid on rear derailleur adjustment I've come across. In particular, I found the description of the adjustment between the jockey pulleys and the lowest gear sprocket most helpful.

    I love my Campagnolo drive train...it's so smooth and quiet but I find that tune-ups are necessary every couple hundred miles...it's like somebody walks into the garage every two or three weeks and spins the tension knob 2 turns. Thanks for posting the vid and confirming my own tune-up procedure.

    at 1:01, it is suggested to close that fine tuning tool all the way.
    at 1:17, it is suggested to use that fine tuning tool BUT now we can only use it counterclockwise (because at 1:01 we close it all the way).
    my guess is that at 1:01 we should close that fine tuning tool only half way, so at 1:17 we can use it both clockwise and counterclockwise, according to needs.
    am i right or i miss something?

    • @slighter
      @slighter 20 днів тому

      Not exactly, the best thing is to close it up almost completely, but to open it up by one turn in the end, so you still have some wiggle room. I don't recommend halfway since over time you will need to turn it out more and more because of cable lenghtening. Better to have enough room.

    • @andreicrisan8145

      @@slighter understandable, and nice advice. but sure enough not close it all the way but left some room to maneuver both ways

    Thanks for the video! I have an 11-speed Record rear derailleur. When I move from the small cog to the large cog, the chain looks centered on the cassette. However, if I move from the large cog to the small cog, the chain is not centered. It's closer to the next larger cog and in some instances, like when in my 21, the chain rubs against the cassette. Is this a matter of adjusting the high-limit screw so it's properly centered or is there something else going on? I've tried the barrel adjustment but that doesn't seem to be it.

    • @artscyclery875
      @artscyclery875  9 років тому +2

      +doug macpherson It sounds like an indexing issue, which would be related to cable tension. Try re-adjusting your cable tension at the anchor bolt, then fine tune with the barrel adjuster. Hope this helps!

    You also have to say about the length of the cable which is the usual mistake of many mechanics.
    It must be at least 33cm from the frame to rear derailleur for working and shifting well.

  • @KC93SE

    What would cause a 10s or 11s rear derailleur to downshift 4 gears (almost like a 3 1/2 shift) and then upshift 1, rather than the normal 3 at a max lever sweep? Both have reasonably new cables (if not nearly new) and about the same mileage. Riding 2009ish Mirage 10s (externally routed) and 2015 Athena 11s (internally routed). Thanks! These videos are super helpful!

    • @artscyclery875
      @artscyclery875  7 років тому

      I would check your cable tension first as that a common cause and a easy fix. Another problem could be that either your derailleur or your hangar are bent, check the hanger first as a bent derailleur is less common.

    • @KC93SE
      @KC93SE 7 років тому

      Is there a recommended, numerical value for the cable tension? Is there a tool for it, or is it based off of feel in a specific gear combo? Thanks again!

  • @wjs1
    @wjs1 2 місяці тому

    On EPS derailleurs, turning the H screw clockwise moves the pulley closer to the cassette and turning it counterclockwise moves it away from the cassette. This is the opposite to what is shown in your video so a bit confusing for those of us with EPS

  • @methunshow
    @methunshow 9 років тому

    I have a loose wiggle at the mounting point, and the stay is tight and/or clapped with the wheel on. So it's the internal derailleur mounting assembly needs servicing. Campy advices service center only repair...but it would be nice to see it repaired for some of us who want to tackle it.

  • @vyvyvyvyvyvyv
    @vyvyvyvyvyvyv 4 роки тому +1

    1:04 is not true beccause if you pull your cable too softly when you clamp it with the screw, the cable tension won't be enough and the first downshift won't be done unless you tighten the tension screw a lot

  • @robmulders707

    Thanks for the videos! My campa 10speed rear derailleur starts ticking towards the larger cogs. Is this a matter of adjusting the B-tension? That the upper wheel is too close to the cog?

    • @artscyclery875
      @artscyclery875  9 років тому

      Rob Mulders Glad to hear you are enjoying the videos! It could be the B-tension or possibly your cable tension. Try turning your B-tension screw clockwise to move the upper wheel away from the cog. If that doesn't work, play with your barrel adjusters to dial in your cable tension.

    Everytime i back pedal on the large cog and big ring the chain will come off. Can’t really find a solution online 😢

    • @agustinc6102
      @agustinc6102 3 роки тому

      It shouldn't be coming off, but also it's not surprising as you're not meant to be cross-chaining like that. You can get the same gear ratio by using the small ring and a middle size cog.

    What is the max a rider should pay in total for labor, to have his wheel bearings replaced? I have a high-end Lightweight Standard all carbon wheel set, and want to have the bearings replaced with a set of ceramic speed ceramic wheel bearing kit (front and rear complete). Again I'm just looking for labor, I've got the parts. Thanks a million in advance....

    • @artscyclery875
      @artscyclery875  10 років тому

      Cyclingmasterseller Wherever you go to have the work done and whatever price you pay, make sure that the mechanic has the proper tools to do the job. Make them show you the tools before you hand over your bike. $50 should cover it. That's what we'd charge, but as far as an upper limit on the labor cost... value is in the eye of the beholder.

    I have a Campa Chorus 9 speed and if I try to adjust it i'll end up like i can shift smoothly to bigger cogs but if i want to shift to smallers it shifts more than one cog, and if i loosen the cable then i cant shift properly to bigger cogs what now :\

    • @artscyclery875
      @artscyclery875  9 років тому

      Levente Domonkos A possible cause could be that the shifter is not in the lowest gear when you set the cable tension. Make sure the shifter is in the highest position corresponding to the smallest cog. If you have performed the steps according to the video and you're still having the problem, a bent derailleur hanger might be the culprit. Sometimes, though, it's just a matter of finding that elusive sweet spot with the barrel adjuster. Let us know how it goes.

    • @Booiill
      @Booiill 8 років тому

      How old is your shifter, it may be that your ergopower shifter is broken. 9 spees shifter can be rebuilded. inside is one ring with two springs, which could break after few years. Replace this ring and it will work as new.

    Hi. Do have an idea how to run internal cables in a titanum frames. Thanks

    • @artscyclery875
      @artscyclery875  6 років тому

      Hi there, it really depends on the frame. Lots of frames will have internally routed cable guides. If your frame is lacking guides, you can try fishing through some spare cable housing or a spare shift/brake cable.

    The problem with your videos is that you dont specify what the starting point is before making adjustments. Ive found this both in this and the front derailleur adjustment video. For e.g. after saying move the front derailleur to the big cog, you then say to remove cable tension from rear derailleur, but in which rear cog should the chain be at this point??? I could have the chain still sitting in my middle rear cog, should I leave it there or move it?? IF i leave it there itll be pulling on the derailleur Jockey wheels. You need to specify exactly what positions both front and rear need to be in prior to adjustments

    It went together easily in less than an hour. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

    Followed this guide but now I cannot shift down to the lowest gear, even with the H screw removed. Worked OK before, but sometimes the chain would come off. Cannot seem to fix it. Annoyingly, my cack-handedness and this video means a trip to the bike shop and a cancelled cycle tomorrow...

    • @artscyclery875
      @artscyclery875  8 років тому

      +A Wizard Because it's obviously not your limits, it sounds like your cable tension is off/too much, meaning that it's preventing you from downshifting all the way down.
