I am 36 years old. I joined the Marines when i was 17 and went on with a GED waiver. I never completed my GED till last year. I struggled with addiction and substance abuse for over 15 years and i lost my 24 yr. old brother in 2013 as a result of an infection from IV drug use. I ended up in trouble after my brother died and i had alot of support from family and from the local police and the court. I got clean, started a Celebrate Recovery in my community and later completed my GED. After starting college for Addictions counseling i realized i wanted my M.D. in psychiatry so now i am in a Pre-Med program. I will be the first M.D. in my family. Hope my story inspires those who think it is too late to change your life. It is never too late and nothing is impossible, especially with God on your side!!!
Your comment blew me away 😭😭 same situation I've struggled with substance abuse for long a time and really want to turn my life around thank you for inspiring me to know that it's NEVER too late. God bless you.
Why I wanna be a Doctor ; Because I don't see myself doing anything else. When I was younger, my mom and I use to watch surgeries during dinner. I was so fascinated then, and still am now. Every time I try to think of doing something else in my life, I always come back to being a Doctor. Now, I'm not like most people, I had to drop out of high school at the age of 16 due to some issues. I finally get my GED in 2015 (19 years old) and I'll be starting my pre med journey at a local tech college this January. I'm very excited to finally be able to get the journey going. Good Luck everyone :)
I want to become a pediatric oncologist because not only do i get to work with kids and help them physically, but it also involves working with their families. I want to help them psychologically and show them compassion and love in times of darkness in their situations. As a Christian I want to spread gods love and light when life seems dark to those who are (or their child/sibling is) suffering with cancer. Thanks for the vid! I'm a freshman in university and I really love your videos, they help motivate me to keep going! Lots of love
I want to be a doctor, because I'm just in love with the human body. I love studying anatomy and physiology. I also just like the hospital atmosphere. :) you're an inspiration! Love your videos!
You have so much confidence! Any tips? I have low self esteem and sometimes i feel like I'm not smart enough or good enough. And on top of that I'm super shy! Ahhh!! Love your videos!
+Kristen Nichole just try and you may not make it but hey you also may make it and my experience is that effort translates into success quite directly, not much place for stuff like random odds or talent here. Means if you work hard, you should be able to make it. And again, there is ALWAYS the possibility for EVERYBODY to fail, but it doesn´t really mean anything, four people out of twenty in my study group drop now in first semester med school (and we even don't have our first finals behind us), but that's ok, worst case you find out what you don't want to do with your life, best case you stay in, benefitial experience anyways. You can make it!
Your videos no matter what they are about always give me happiness. I was wishing you would update today because I was feeling especially down and my wish came true. Thank you.
I just found you on here and I think you're video is absolutely incredible. I work as an EMT right now. I do this full time. I'm working on getting money saved up for a paramedic course. I want to become a Emergency Physician. The reasoning behind it is as simple as this. I love medicine. From the work to the patients and their stories. I love the mind games that get you thinking as a physician, paramedic and even as an EMT as I do help rule out possible diagnoses. It's as simple as that.
I decided (pretty late in the game, my senior year of high school) to become a doctor because I love to help people, I love to travel, and I believe that I can make a difference in this field. Becoming a volunteer for Doctors Without Borders is something very close to my heart, hopefully as a neurosurgeon.
Currently in med school here. The main reason why I’m going to be a doctor is because when I was younger I would never see Hispanic doctors or any Spanish speaking doctors. So when my parents would go it would be difficult because of the language barrier, so my goal is to help people like my family. I also have always liked science and math so that adds on too that.
It’s such a weird feeling. While I can’t say for sure that I want to be a doctor 100%, I always find myself being attracted toward the profession. It just feels... right.
I want to be a doctor because the world needs us, and we need the world. There's so many individuals needing care, support, compassion, help, and as a doctor we get to serve to these people. My family is from Honduras and I am the first in my family attending university. Unfortunately my family in Honduras has undergone many difficult illnesses, needing immediate care and not being able to receive any due to extremely high costs. I've been to Honduras three times and every single time I've gone I can't help but notice all the people in need and the urge to change that. Sabrina, congratulations on your full ride to medical school and I wish you the best in your journey to your career.!
Nice to see you are incredibly passionate about your future career and you are such a hardworking individual! You are truly my role model! Wishing you good luck for your medicine application and your MCAT - you will be fine! From London, England
I feel you on the life experience part. I go to a university that has a high population of older students coming back to school and also veterans. Plus I've been working part time during school and full time during the summer since I was 18. It's helped me learn a lot about how the world works but still there's absolutely nothing I can do with my age. And there's so much more I'd love to learn before jumping into the medical field
I want to be an Ob/Gyn doctor. I have assisted my sisters with 4 deliveries. I work at the hospital cleaning on labour & delivery, and it has me so interested! Good luck on your MCAT❤️
I've wanted to be a doctor ever since I was 5. I remember my dad put the idea in my head and the more I thought about the more I loved the idea. But you know as a kid you always say what you wanna be but end up choosing something different. But for me, that never happened. The more I grew up the more passionate I got. When I was 12 my dad passed away and I made a promise to him that I would follow my dream and become a doctor to make him proud. But that's not the only reason for my career choice. I love helping people and making them feel better. I am fascinated by the idea of saving lives and helping people heal. I am intrigued by the adrenaline rush running through your body when you face trauma that's coming through the hospital doors. I am now a senior in high school and in a health science program in school and hope to graduate with a CNA degree. I also volunteer in the hospital this summer. Little things that I hope will help me get to where I want to be. And now I'm working on getting scholarships to help pay for school because God knows it's really expensive. But I do not want to do anything other than medicine. It has truly become my dream.
I am 15. This year I have noticed my brain questioning the anatomy and biology of my body. Everyone has told me that I am very maternal and caring. I want to be a doctor because I have a passion for the human body as well as a passion for people.
I am currently working as an EFL Teacher in South Korea, and graduated in December of 2016 with an Education degree. Although my time thus far has been good in South Korea I can't help but constantly be reminded of my first plan of action(pre-med) a few years ago. I feel that if I don't ever go into Med school and pursue the field I will one day look back and say "I could have done that." So here I am working in South Korea, hoping to return back to NYC or the US next year in order to take my pre-med courses and move forward in the tough but totally worth it(imo) journey.
I just really like your personality. I just came across your video and it was very good. Even though I have 2 years 1/2 left in undergrad you really shined a light on things. I really need to get some life experiences myself.
I'm 17 and the reason I've decided to go pre med entering college is because my mom is a medical biller for cedar Sinai and she actually was having trouble with getting certified as a coder so I actually started helping her with her physiology stuff (which is kind of like more in depth bio) and I realized how much I loved science and I realized that it was something I was very interested in.
I am also a pre-med. I do work and go to school full-time which can be very overwhelming at times. I'm planning on doing the phlebotomy program so I can have a decent job while in school, along with getting hands on experience with patients. Volunteering is very important. I volunteer at my local free clinic in the urgent care as a lab technician, and it is a great way to shadow and interact with the physicians too.
This video was so helpful! I will be starting college in the fall as a biology/pre med major. My goal is to be a pathologist one day! Also I started watching your videos a few years ago but then I stopped watching UA-cam for a while a couple years (no wifi :( ) and as I was searching for pre med videos I came across your channel again and I got so excited that you want to be doctor too!
I've wanted to go to med school ever since the middle of undergrad. I just love the human body and have been passionate about generally helping people in difficult situations :)
I want to be a endocrinologist because my mom has thyroid and my dad has diabetes so it would be so nice to learn about what they have to go through. Also I never thought of the medical field, I enjoy biology and love challenging myself so I think all enjoy medicine a lot. It is a long path but it will be filled with so many experiences. I love helping people be comfortable with themselves and watch them grow healthy!
I want to be a doctor because my Grandma inspired me. She is a hospice nurse and has always taught me about medicine and the human body. Her strength is incredible, and she has been an amazing example of what it means to lead a selfless life. For the longest time, I always turned away from anything science related because I thought I wasn’t good enough to succeed. Science and math have always been harder for me than English or anything related to the humanities/history. I began to fall in love with learning about the body after a general human physiology and anatomy class my junior year of high school. It was an awakening for me because it opened my eyes to the beauty I had been pushing away. I’m interested in so many different subject areas, but medicine is just different. (Especially traditional medicine)It feels right for me. Anyways, I will be a freshman in college this year! I’m ready to work hard and pursue something greater than myself. Sending love and God bless.
I have this appeal of becoming a medical doctor due to the fact that I can help quite a mass of individuals who do have disabilities or illnesses and with the knowledge i have, I can find a diagnosis, and to see them healthy and bliss again after suffering is motivational.
Acting is my passion so I'm going to major in theatre but I wish I could do something medical too I just don't feel like I'm smart enough and that I would fail every class
+Manasvi Sanjay cardiologists, neurologists, and surgeons are different specialties. But, there are surgeons who specialize in cardio thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, etc
I want to be a Pain Management doctor because I have CRPS in my leg and my Saphenous and Superficial Perineal nerve is cut in two. That has inspired me into becoming a doctor, because I want to help others with neuropathic pain and CRPS.
I'm double majoring in psychology and biology for pre med, I was always interested in the brain and it's functions and helping people on a personal level, so as long as I can remember I've always wanted to be a psychiatrist😊
Same! I've always been interested in the brain and my two career options were psychiatry and neurosurgery but I'm leaning more towards psychiatry because I am more interested in helping people overcome mental illnesses than actually operating on the brain. Good luck with med school! I hope you accomplish your dream of becoming a psychiatrist.
I’m not the best in the science courses. My average grade for the science classes such as physics, bio, and chem is around 84%. My dream is to be a family doctor. Is it possible for me to still pursue this path? It’s a heck of a lot of science.
I can't find one reason why I want to be a doctor. But I can find a hundred reasons not to be a doctor. I don't want to be a doctor, I need to be doctor . It's all I can think about and every time I think about it I get excited.
My professor suggested me to apply for a MD/PhD degree because I want to be a medical scientist in the US. Yet, I am an international student and it seems impossible to be admitted. What can I do??? :(
+LS Yeung hello!!! I am a senior in college and starting medical school next summer!! I have shadowed two physicians that were international students and I would say make sure the classes you are taking in your undergrad are needed at the medical school you want to go to... make sure you do ALOT of community volunteer work and shadow physicians or volunteer at a hospital around where you live... the will show you really want to be in the medical field... also if you can maybe take you undergrad in the USA there is a lot of schools who will give scholarships to foreign students! Florida and california especially... but also smaller community schools will and then you could transfer to a bigger school for rest of your undergrad
+SellersDiva07 hey im 18 yr old boy and im starting premed this year but im suffering from depression bcoz i lost my family in car accident i need to talk plz replay i know in can do well but rightnow im not focused im alone plz add me on skype of fb i nee guidance plz
I am just so.damn.fascinated about how our body works, his constant process, how it reacts to differents diseases, how we get the privilege to help him heal. I just find it amazing. I was lost for a period of time when i was like 15. In my class everyone already knew how they were going to spent they life and i didn't. I always felt attracted to medicine but i recently find out that this is what i want. I like to feel useful. I would like to be a surgeon... that way i can actually help a patient. So... yeah. Med School here i come!
Im in Biochem too! Love it! Super hard though, def not a walk in the park! How did the MCAT go? I'm planning on writing mine next summer if I can pull a decent GPA this year
I want to be a doctor to make a positive impact on this world and help people with my own ability. I have always been one to care for other people and I just don't imagine me being anything else but a doctor.
I am a senior in high school and I'm applying to colleges already. This video helped a lot, I want to be a pediatrician or family physician and major in biology.
I'm a freshman in college and I'm going to get my associates in nursing at a community college and then I'm going to get my bachelors in biology at a university. Do I need to shadow if I've worked as a nurse? I know I'm going to be working while I'm taking my lower division classes and then quitting to focus on my upper division classes. I've volunteered at the iMax science museum and Henderson mental health so far. And I'm doing a research study abroad thing in Canada this summer. So I feel like I'm building up my application pretty well actually.
As a young girl I already knew I wanted to be a pediatric oncologist. The odds were always stacked against me but now I'm sure I can and will do it. We ended up having a baby my freshman year in college so I took a few years off. I'm now 22 and starting back pre-med! I'm nervous, but excited! Masha Allah I will make it! 🙏 Pray for me, even if you don't know me! Please.
I know that a bachelor's degree is required to even apply to medical school. I am starting the two year radiology program following by a bachelor's degree for radiology as well after. Do I start taking the required med school classes once I am in the bachelors degree or can I start now working on them? I want to be a radiologist and I assumed that being a rad tech would help gain some experience in the field is why I am going for the two year and bachelors for it. Was not sure when to take pre med classes with my rad classes. Thank you.
I wish I could tell the truth when I am asked why I want to become a doctor but part of the truth would 100% get me rejected from every single school, it's not my reasoning that would get me rejected, it's the life experiences that lead me to want to become a doctor that I cannot talk about :( I have to make up some bullshit story and it kind of bums me out because I know my story can help at least 1 person be inspired and hopeful but I have to do what will allow me the best chance during interviews so lie my ass off when I get asked that question it is!
Guys I'm a sophomore in high school I got now and i really want to be a doctor but I just feel like I'm not smart enough my GPA is a 3.9 and I've always gotten a 3.5 or higher but still watching videos of doctors and the journey just seems too crazy! How do I study the right thing? And I don't understand how college works so do I take 4 years of college then med school?
I want to be a neurosurgeon because I love the brain, it's fascinating I love how unexplored it is and I hope to explore and the fact that it controls so much of our body's yet we know so little about it. I also hope to help further research for Alzheimer's disease I myself unfortunately knew someone with the disease and I would love to help people who suffer from it
I also want to study biochemistry !!💖🏥 one day a teacher told me that there is a scholarship that could paid 1 or 2 years of college based on your GPA (3.8+) and since my GPA is like 4 something I really want to apply. Does someone know more about that scholarship ? Thanks
Hi I just wanted to ask you what classes you r taking because recently I just decided to do premed and I'm on my senior year of college. I have taken chemistries and biologies.
I'm 14 and i want to become a surgeon in America but I am from Europe ....i want to become a doctor because just making people healthy again is just wonderful ...i do great at math and biology
So if you do college for 4 years does that mean you were 16 when you started college? I'm from the uk so I don't understand the American schooling system but that sounds a bit young to me? Anyone care to explain thanks x
+FishCookieFudgeSwirl Most are 18 when they start college. I think Sabrina started at 17 though. Both she and her sister, Alex, graduated high school early because they are super smart :)
+maria19love if you love bio then major in bio, you can also choose a minor of your choice so you can take classes that fits your other interests. :) I'm a pre-med student and major in microbiology and minor in spanish! Do what you enjoy and never give up. :)
+maria19love Hello! My major is biochemistry and i am a senior starting med school next yr!!! i would say biochemistry as your major because it requires you to take all the medical school prerequisites and then also other classes that are studied your first yr of medical school (like genetics, microbiology, immunology, physiology) so it will make you a little ahead of the game... biochemistry also gives you research hrs so it could help you decide if you want to be a more research based doctor or a doctor who deals more with patient care :)) then for electives you could take the fun extra things that make you look like a well rounded med school applicant so like foreign lang, art,etc
By far the most useful pre-med resource I have read is this ebook on Amazon. It is a MUST READ! Medical School: Little Known Secrets to Getting In by Dr. Adrian Aaron. I learned some tactics to getting in to med school that I would have never thought of. It definitely helped me get in!
+Mortar Clark If work is influencing your academic performance, take time off work. Apply for loans or scholarships. I have been in a financially difficult situation, however I do not believe that 12$/h and less studying time is not worth risking your chances of getting into med.
I want to be a doctor because 1) I love science, from people,a animals, plants, cells, to the earth and space, 2) I love the challenge medicine gives, there's always something to solve,3) I love to help others, which medicine would allow me to do everyday of my life 😃😆🤓
It is not as exciting as the TV shows make it look. You have to go to school and study for a million years and get no sleep for 13 years and be 250k in debt.
I am 36 years old. I joined the Marines when i was 17 and went on with a GED waiver. I never completed my GED till last year. Wow what an inspiration! Thx for sharing Donald! Yes, with God nothing is impossible. Prayers.

please don't give up and don't stop believing in yourself, you can do it😊 I'm starting my pre med journey as well next semester

Did u get in?

it's an awesome job! my sister was diagnosed with cancer and it's been a few years now, she's cured but we still see her doc and he's the best

how do you balance studying to prepare for all of those exams?
Girl idk how you do it! Nursing school alone is hard for me!
Love you, girl! I will start today! No pain no gain!

+Paola C you could do like medical volunteering or a medical mission trip in your free time:))
i want to be a doctor because I am fascinated by science and I need to help people :)
+Manasvi Sanjay cardiologists, neurologists, and surgeons are different specialties. But, there are surgeons who specialize in cardio thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, etc
How are you today?
Swaggy xox you can do anything you put your mind to ! Just keep trying and never give up . You got this
I can't find one reason why I want to be a doctor. But I can find a hundred reasons not to be a doctor. I don't want to be a doctor, I need to be doctor . It's all I can think about and every time I think about it I get excited.
Same I really wanna be a doctor but I dont know exact reasons. I just know that I need to be one to satisfy my desire to be one.
She is soooooooo beautiful im in love... forgot about med school while watching xD
What about Hinata ???
what did you get on your exams? I'm just curious.
THESE VIDEOS ARE SO HELPFUL!!! thanks!!
I really love videos about premed & stuff because there's not a lot out there thanks
I’m going into my freshman year of college majoring in bio-chemistry. I’m hoping to specialize in neurology
Great video Sabrina! Even though i am not a med student, i really enjoyed it!
Is alex planning on being a doctor too?
I am a senior in high school and I'm applying to colleges already. This video helped a lot, I want to be a pediatrician or family physician and major in biology.
I also want to be a pediatrician but I'm an
freshman
I'm a freshman in college and I'm going to get my associates in nursing at a community college and then I'm going to get my bachelors in biology at a university. Do I need to shadow if I've worked as a nurse? I know I'm going to be working while I'm taking my lower division classes and then quitting to focus on my upper division classes. I've volunteered at the iMax science museum and Henderson mental health so far. And I'm doing a research study abroad thing in Canada this summer. So I feel like I'm building up my application pretty well actually.
You're the cutest Sab, thanks for the video!
Please.
Very helpful video! I just had one question: any reason you aren't going to grad school before medical school?
Loved your video sabrina it really helped, I always get excited when you post :)!!
Thank you.
what kind of doctor are you wanting to be ?
I wish I could tell the truth when I am asked why I want to become a doctor but part of the truth would 100% get me rejected from every single school, it's not my reasoning that would get me rejected, it's the life experiences that lead me to want to become a doctor that I cannot talk about :( I have to make up some bullshit story and it kind of bums me out because I know my story can help at least 1 person be inspired and hopeful but I have to do what will allow me the best chance during interviews so lie my ass off when I get asked that question it is!
Same here. It can get extremely annoying sometimes, but we don't have another option.
When you applied to college did you apply as undeclared or as your major? Also how do you let your college know you are pre med? Thanks!!
Im going to be a senior in high school and im not super great at science. Will i still be able to make it through pre med??
Can you make a video on how to be successful in AP classes in high school.
Are you thinking of applying to osteopathic medical schools as well? Thanks for all your amazing advice!
Am I a competitive freshman? 3.85s GPA and 3.93 cumulative GPA. I hope I get in :/
-100 hours of clinical volunteering so far
president of MSA
how did you find the physician that you shadowed?
I just started watching your videos and I was wondering what MCAT packet? Thank you for the advice! I love your videos :)
I'm 14 and i want to become a surgeon in America but I am from Europe ....i want to become a doctor because just making people healthy again is just wonderful ...i do great at math and biology
Can anyone please tell me where she did her undergrad????
Did u post how you are studying for the MCAT?
Great advice!
did I have to go to a pre_medical program or any science college
What's your thoughts on taking physics 1, general chem 1, A&P 1, and statistics at once?
does anyone know where she goes to school?
Make revision tips vid plz!!!!
So if you do college for 4 years does that mean you were 16 when you started college? I'm from the uk so I don't understand the American schooling system but that sounds a bit young to me? Anyone care to explain thanks x
Most graduate high school at 17 or 18 and then go to college/university the August or September after. Hope that helps :)
+FishCookieFudgeSwirl Most are 18 when they start college. I think Sabrina started at 17 though. Both she and her sister, Alex, graduated high school early because they are super smart :)
dang you will be 20? did u start college earlier?
what is hospice and how can you be part of it, I mean do you volunteer or do you need to have some sort of experience to work there
Nami328 hospice is a place where dying people go instead of a hospital. If you volunteer there be prepared because its hard and extremely emotional.
what branch of medicine are you considering Sabrina?
Sabrina please help me choose a major.. I am a senior and i love biology , basically any science what would u recommend and also love medicine
+maria19love if you love bio then major in bio, you can also choose a minor of your choice so you can take classes that fits your other interests. :) I'm a pre-med student and major in microbiology and minor in spanish! Do what you enjoy and never give up. :)
+maria19love
Hello!
+maria19love Biomed (life science)
sabrina can you please tell me do you consider pharmacy as a medical school ?
i actually don't know
Naruto Uzumaki To become a pharmacist you need to attend pharmacy school not medical school
When the new mcat is like double the time it was before like 8 hours. Yay me
Thank you for this!
What school did u go to for pre med
By far the most useful pre-med resource I have read is this ebook on Amazon. It is a MUST READ! Medical School: Little Known Secrets to Getting In by Dr. Adrian Aaron. I learned some tactics to getting in to med school that I would have never thought of. It definitely helped me get in!
Only thing I would be worried about on MCAT is biology! I hate it and I suck at it! I love Chem and physics.
thomas tyner Dude can we switch?
i miss you ♡ xxxxxxxx
Does a medical related major really help you on the MCAT? I heard otherwise, can anyone clear this up please?
Not really. Biology majors score lower on the MCAT than humanities majors.
really?
I work 50 hours a week on top of being a full time premed...
+Mortar Clark If work is influencing your academic performance, take time off work. Apply for loans or scholarships.
I have been in a financially difficult situation, however I do not believe that 12$/h and less studying time is not worth risking your chances of getting into med.
I want to be a doctor because 1) I love science, from people,a animals, plants, cells, to the earth and space, 2) I love the challenge medicine gives, there's always something to solve,3) I love to help others, which medicine would allow me to do everyday of my life 😃😆🤓
I'm a biochemistry major too!! That's so cool hahahah
+SabsBeauty, Have you looked at what med schools you are planning to apply to? if so, which ones?
"it's not that expensive it's like $2,000"
Do you know which Med school you want to go to?
ayyyy Phi delta epsilon UMB
Great Advice! I enjoyed your video!
an apple a day keeps the doctor away I don't like doctors I am a psychology student heheh ;)
It is not as exciting as the TV shows make it look. You have to go to school and study for a million years and get no sleep for 13 years and be 250k in debt.
