Why do some First Nations people wear braids?

Teachings and beliefs differ for First Nations people across Turtle Island. People of all genders in many Plains Nations grew their hair long. Some First Nations people today continue this tradition. For some, braids are a symbol of strength, wisdom, identity, memory, and connection to ancestors.
